All of these prices should be in effect by now, with normal pricing returning sometime after the first of the year.

‘Fishtropolis’ – Regal Tang? Sounds Delicious.

‘Fishtropolis’ – Regal Tang? Sounds Delicious. is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

631081_4NimbleBit has quite a fan following on our forums, and tonight Fishtropolis [App Store] joins their existing lineup of fun and simple iPhone games. Fishtropolis is a sequel of sorts to Textropolis [App Store] which shares all the same mechanics and gameplay elements with a whole new set of words to find within the names of 15 different types of fish.

Textropolis was well-recieved in our review, and Fishtropolis is more of the same. Starting with the letters that make up "white carp" you search for words with four or more characters. As you find more words you earn stars and attract more fish and other aquatic life to your game until the screen is almost completely full when you've found most of the words. The first star you earn unlocks the next level, "blue platy," where you start the whole process over.

When you find a word, the definition scrolls across the screen and if you find yourself stuck you can shake your phone to sacrifice five of the fish you've earned finding words to get a hint. The thing most people liked about Textropolis originally was that there were no time limits of any kind, and you can take as long as you want instead of trying to beat a clock, and Fishtropolis works the same way.

631081 631081_5

At the end of the day, Fishtropolis is little more than a reskin of Textropolis with new words to find. If you were among the many people who enjoyed the original game in the series, you will also have a lot of fun with this one. However, if you're looking for something new, there isn't much to be found in Fishtropolis aside from a different graphical theme and a new catalog of words.

Conquer Your RSS Feeds with my6sense

Conquer Your RSS Feeds with my6sense is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

my6sense iPhoneNews stream and social media app my6sense wants to make the deluge of information available on the web a bit more manageable for you — by reading your mind.

Yes, this is another app that studies your tendencies, but my6sense is actually a pretty good tool at sorting through your RSS feeds and pulling up content that aligns with your interests. It works by using an artificial engine to digest your news feeds from an RSS reader account, such as Google Reader. After a few hours, my6sense will start giving you recommended reading under a Top Messages panel. The longer you use my6sense, the more information there is about your reading habits. This in turn hones in on the kind of stories you would rather be reading. After a bit of use I was really pleased with what it pulled up as recommended reading.

Where my6sense is particularly strong is if you are browsing your iPhone/iPod touch and want a quick snippet of news and information. By pulling up the recommended feeds my app was filled with stories that I was happy to peruse my way through. It was a far better way to read through my feeds than just looking at the haphazard scroll of stories found in a typical reader. If you want to scroll through the feeds by their feed title that is possible too — and the interface here is really smooth and includes the title and an icon for each feed.

There are also social media components through my6sense, which allows you to share a feed through Twitter, Facebook, or FriendFeed. These were pretty seamless and worked quite well, with the link automatically shortened through tinyurl.com.

Probably the only drawback is there is not yet any sync between your feeds. For example, if you read a story through my6sense, it still appears as unread if you pull it up later in Google Reader. But overall, this is an excellent (and free!) tool for reading and sharing online content. Also, bit.ly integration would make sharing even stronger so you could track your links.

In all my6sense is a strong offering in the news app and rss reader categories and hopefully will continue to add features to make it even stronger.

Gyrotate – Line ‘em up, and Take ‘em out for Endless Fun

Gyrotate – Line ‘em up, and Take ‘em out for Endless Fun is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

gyrotate-iphone-appWander through the App Store and you’ll find an ever-increasing list of puzzle games, many of which seem eerily familiar. Like a seven-year itch in December, playing the same old games starts to lack a certain spark. Gyrotate by Goos Trix Ltd. may be one app that will keep your thoughts more on playing the game and less on what you might be missing in the App Store.

Gyrotate is simple to play. It consists of four rotating rows of objects and all you have to do is match 4 or more pieces of the same color by rotating the rows or layers. Each color has a quota you’ll need to meet before you can move on to the next level.

Sounds simple but as you advance the quota increases and the time allowed decreases. Designed with three skill levels, (easy, normal, or hard), Gyrotate is sure to challenge even the most skilled puzzle player. Beyond the skill levels there are also a few extra pieces that appear during your play that make the game more difficult and challenging at times. The locks, bombs, and clocks require you to use more strategy than just lining up colors during play.

Gyrotate is similar to other puzzle games for sure. Bejeweled, Gemmed and reMovem immediately come to mind. But those are puzzle games that I find extremely favorable among the slew of games available. If you are a fan of those types of puzzle games, then you will be assured some great solitary time with Gyrotate. With its retro-look, neon colors, and rotating rows you may even be hard pressed to put it down.

Alien Axis Turns Puzzle Solving on its Head

Alien Axis Turns Puzzle Solving on its Head is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

alien axisTake a small, green alien named Otto, the tilt response of the iPhone and an adventure puzzle with 28 levels to navigate and you get Alien Axis in a nutshell.

Alien Axis requires players to navigate Otto from start to finish while avoiding certain obstacles and interacting with others. It’s fairly simplistic in design and slightly reminiscent of a ball in box puzzle, but with a bit more pizzazz and depth. Though Alien Axis has some room for improvement, overall it has a solid premise.

At the beginning of each level, Otto materializes at the start point and players navigate him to a door, which will transport him to the next level. The first few levels are simple, but then things get more challenging. Otto will respond to a tap of the finger, moving left or right accordingly. You can also tilt the device 90 degrees at a time and the puzzle’s vantage will adjust accordingly. In each level, you simply decide the best way to help Otto reach the door in the best time.

Alien Axis is a very forgiving game in that it allows as many attempts at a level as needed. This is a good thing because while the tilt response is pretty dead-on, the touch response sometimes isn’t. Being that tilt is often more productive than touch, the gameplay isn’t greatly impacted and some levels can be zipped through in 30 seconds or less simply by tilting. In fact, it’s the tilting navigation that makes Alien Axis fun. The puzzling aspect of the game varies from challenging to obvious, but you definitely root for Otto if only to hear his triumphant giggle at each level’s end.

While Alien Axis could stand a few tweaks to update minor glitches, such as frequently failing to launch on the first try, a bit more explanation of maneuvers involving jumping, and more responsive touch controls, the combination of settings, ease of play and solid premise make it a more than acceptable .99 puzzle. To try before you buy, check out Alien Axis Lite with a limited number of levels.
