Where to Wee – Review

Where to Wee – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Imagine this.  Your’e on a road trip with your family.  You’re in a strange city with you need to go to the bathroom (or are with someone that has to) and you have no idea where a clean bathroom is.  So you take out your iPhone or iPod touch and find one.

Where to Wee opens with a pictorial request of whether the user is looking for a ladies’ or mens’ room.  Once the selection is made, after the app requests to use the current location, a map appears to show the user all the location…Read More

Word Burst – Review

Word Burst – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Word Burst is an interesting combination of Scrabble, Tetris and Boggle.  The idea is to find words within a collection of "letter balloons".  Once you tap the individual letters, the collected word appears at the bottom of the screen.  You hit the word "burst" and that destroys the letter balloons you created the word from, moving the letters around to fill the spaces.  You then repeat the process until the time limit is completed.  This is like Scrabble becaus…Read More

iQuarium – Review

iQuarium – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I never wanted to own a pet.  I was always concerned that I’d forget about the pet and it would die of starvation, swearing eternal torment on me for the rest of my existence.  Then I figured I’d start out virtual so nothing would actually die, so I picked up iQuarium for myself.  If this works, I’ll eventually work up to virtual kittens and puppies.

The objective of iQuarium is, surprise, to take care of a fish.  Unlike other fish tank apps like Koi Pond the user is required to do so…Read More

SOHOinmypocket – Review

SOHOinmypocket – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

How does SOHOinmypocket distinguish itself from the myriad of mapping and travel applications that are available in the App Store?  Well, others are free, to start with.
However, in its defense, the app really loves the area South of Houston Street.  They have the most comphensive listing of the area that I’ve seen on any of these styles of apps, which includes telephone numbers and website addresses for each place.  As with most other apps, you can see locations on a map (provided…Read More

Audio Class Notes – Record and Tag Lectures – Review

Audio Class Notes – Record and Tag Lectures – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Given the title and the very nature of this application (along with the fact that it’s being offered for free), it should be obvious whom this one is marketed towards.

The app allows you to record lectures and conversations and tag them with some sort of title or description.  The user can then go to an internal recording library and play the recordings until the lesson has sunk so far into their skull that deep sea divers would be necessary to retrieve them.  When the need for…Read More

Finger Physics – Review

Finger Physics – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I managed to catch Finger Physics at a time when it was being offered as a free download.  While the game is cute and possibly addictive, this is not a game I would find myself paying money for.
You are given an egg and a basket.  The objective of the game is to get the egg into the basket.  However, various glass obstacles appear in the way and you have to break them with your finger in the correct combination in order to get the egg in the basket. Later levels involve using the blocks…Read More

Elf – Review

Elf – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

No, this is not the long-overdue movie tie-in app for Will Ferrell’s hilarious movie Elf, which came out six years ago. Rather, Elf is a recently released game about a bouncy, little elf named Irving. And I use the word ‘bouncy’ both in the figurative and literal sense of the word. That’s because Irving is indeed a bouncy, lively, cheerful creature, and he also happens to be really bouncy, literally. And it’s this dual bounciness that is at the center of this somewhat Christmas-themed game.

The premise o…Read More

Mahjong Wall – Review

Mahjong Wall – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Creating a Mahjong game for the iPhone or iPod Touch is slightly risky for the developer.  Mahjong is an old game and is usually played by older people.  I’m not sure how large of an audience this particular game might have with the iPhone / Touch crowd.

On the other hand, the reason Mahjong has lasted so long is that it’s a simple, fun and addicting game.  All you have to do is match tiles on a board.  Once that is done, you move the tiles away to reveal more tiles.  Repeat unti…Read More

iCaughtSanta – Review

iCaughtSanta – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I’m the first to admit that I’m a quirky individual which is why applications like iCaughtSanta causes me great amusement.  The app is a low-level photo editing tool that lets you place their "Santa" (obviously a guy in a red suit that they hired for a photo shoot) in any background you choose from your Photo Library.

The app is intended to fool children.  The idea is that you go to your Christmas Tree at night after the kids are asleep and take a picture.  Then you use the…Read More

I AM NINJA! – Review

I AM NINJA! – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

The "Ask A Ninja" phenomenon has been screaming for its video game, interactive experience, virtual reality simulation, whatever. It’s hard to believe it took this long to develop one for it.

Unfortunately, I still wish they had taken a little longer to develop it.
"I Am Ninja," named for the catchy theme song that accompanies each "Ask a Ninja" video, features a main game, three mini-games and a catalogue of videos from the "Ask a Ninja" series…Read More

Green Fingers – Review

Green Fingers – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Green Fingers reminds me of Tetris, and I don’t mean that in a good way.  The premise is simple: you have to catch certain plant-related items (plant food, water, sunlight, etc.) in a flowerpot in order for a flower to grow.

As levels progress, the items fall faster and you have to swipe your finger to move the pots around and catch the proper items.  If you miss the item even once, the game is over.  I would have perferred three lives.

The graphics are nice and the game can be addi…Read More

CityCalc – Review

CityCalc – Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

This app begs the question: how does one market an application that already comes built-in to the iPhone and iPod Touch.  After all, they come with a calculator.  There are scientific calculator apps with many additional functions in the App Store, but a simple calculator?  CityCalc answers this by having a montage of cityscapes in the background of their app, and this is both a good and a bad thing.

It is a good thing because it keeps the calculator interesting.  It’s a bad thing bec…Read More

Strummer – Review

Strummer – Review is a post from: Best Iphone App Review Website

Strummer is a better way to learn guitar than Guitar Hero.  At least in this app you’re being taught things like chords.  However, there are a couple of problems with it.

Problem #1:  without anybody to teach you the context of the chords, it’s tough to figure out what to do.

Problem #2:  there is no way out of the help menu short of stopping the app (hopefully this can be fixed in a future release).

Still, the app is a good idea and certainly a good way to learn basic guitar.&nbs…Read More
