Angry Birds

Angry Birds is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Edit: Angry Birds is on sale for $0.99, normally $1.99.

Private Snowball: Commander, these birds are angry.

Commander Napoleon: What? Why?

Private Snowball: It could possibly be because we stole their eggs to make Sunday Brunch.

Commander Napoleon: No, that can’t be it. We reimbursed them by giving them DDT-infused worms. What’s the worst these angry birds can do?

Private Snowball: Sir, it appears they are launching themselves at our headquarters using a giant slingshot.

The Good: Angry Birds is a gorgeous, cartoony ‘crush the castle’ style game that involves flinging birds of various colors at pigs enclosed in haphazard wooden buildings. It’s like the three little pigs, if the wolf was replaced by a slingshot and homicidal birds. And if clickgamer.com wrote fairy tales, and not games.

The game starts off tame, but eventually new birds and harder levels are introduced. More difficult levels require some intense strategy and some creative solutions. The sheer amount of high-quality and inspired levels offered will keep you hooked for quite a while.

A recent update introduced an impressive 42 extra levels, which makes for one long, long game addition. For the casual gamer or a bird-catapult enthusiast (I know you’re out there), Angry Birds is an absolute must.

The Bad: I can’t say anything bad about this game, except that it’s very addictive.

The Ugly: After downloading this, don’t expect to sleep for a while. Like I said, this game is addicting.

The wrath of the birds is provoked.
Those pigs really need to improve the quality of their construction.
I win glorious prizes.
I don't really have a witty comment for this picture. But that's a lot of levels.
Some strategic demolition.

App Sale: Classics

App Sale: Classics is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Classics is on sale for free – normally $2.99

Classics is an extremely impressive book library for your iPod Touch and iPhone.

Classics is streamlined, quick, and doesn’t lag, unlike many other book apps. The library to choose from is pretty unique, ranging from The Call of the Wild to The Art of War, and the selection is pretty beefy, clocking in about 20 full-length works.

The books are a joy to flip through, and the app has a set of rather neat features (bookmarks, reading multiple books at once) that set it apart from other mobile bookshelves.

Andrew Kaz and Phill Ryu created an impressive app that’s already a favorite in the app store, and is a fantastic deal right now.

Impressive display of literature. Show offs.

App Sale: Heavy Crossbow II

App Sale: Heavy Crossbow II is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Heavy Crossbow II is on sale for free- normally more expensive
Heavy Crossbow II is a neat strategy game that combines castle defense, RPG – style weapon leveling, zombies, one of those iPhone gun apps, and firing a big freaking crossbow.

The main twist to the game comes from actually having to drag back the string on the crossbow or reload a shotgun, which, I suppose, is more work than actually pushing a ’shoot’ button of some sort.

The controls occasionally get a bit wonky and unresponsive, but I can’t expect to shoot zombies without having my giant crossbow malfunction once and a while. Occasionally the controls would stiffen up, leading a parade of marauding zombies into the castle and me back to the beginning of the level.

For those who are a fan of  the castle defending style, ByGames provides some fresh nourishment and quite a bit of zombie-thrashing potential in this game.

Kapowie

Kapowie is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

UPDATE: Looks like this app is going for free for a short time, so you better get now!

I sat in a field with my shotgun ready.Everyone had always told my that they hadn’t existed, but I knew they did. As quiet as a cat stalking its prey, I waited. Then they started coming. The flying pigs were coming from all directions! The adrenaline pumped through my entire body as I tried to shoot them. With 20 bullets, I downed 15 pigs. “Pretty good,” I thought. Now I could bring them home and prove to everyone that they do exist!

Ok, so pigs will never fly, and I will never go hunting for them. Well, at least not in the real world, but on my iPhone, anything is possible! I was playing this fun app called Kapowie by Bjango. It is a crazy and silly shooting game packaged up all in one. The arcade style guides you through several levels where you shoot anything from balloons to penguins in elevators (Attention PETA and PETA activists: no penguins were hurt in the making of this game:D). As you advance through the levels, you get less ammo and more targets to shoot, so your accuracy must improve or it’s game over!

I found myself playing this for an hour instead of doing homework. And for all you parents who would love a game to hand to your child without any violence or gore, this game is 100% blood/gore/gross-stuff free!

There are six different themes: balloons, rolling balls, cardboard ducks (like the old-school carnival game), screaming dudes in a mountain, cannonball stunt devils, and penguins in elevators. Playing this game is definitely a great stress reliever or just a fun way to end the day.

I loved the cartoonish graphics in this game. If this game was more realistic with blood and gore, I wouldn’t play it, but since is has cute graphics that don’t make you feel guilty that you just shot a penguin in an elevator, (why a penguin is in an elevator, I don’ know) the game is fun.

If you want a great game that you won’t have to hide from the kids that is only $.99, check out Kapowie!

App Sale: Finger Physics

App Sale: Finger Physics is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Finger Physics is on sale for free – normally $.99

Fans of physics-based stuff like Ragdoll Blaster and iChalky should definitely check out Finger Physics! This is a super-frustrating physics game where your job is to solve puzzles that use the magic of the accelerometer to piss you off, I mean, challenge your intellect.

Btw, if anyone knows how to “construct a stable building” on the first “Lawn mode” level, I’m all ears! See, that’s how stupid I am… I can’t even get past the fifth level without using a lifeline. (p.s. somebody might post the answer in the comments so if you wanna figure it out for yourself don’t go there!)

PressOK says the free giveaway is one day only so you better get on it if this is your thang.

App Sale: Let’s Golf!

App Sale: Let’s Golf! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Let’s Golf! is on sale for free – normally $1.99

Notice something different here? That price image above looks weird, and I’ll get to why in a minute. What you need to know right now, though, is that this kickass golf game is free! Gameloft has “lite” versions for just about all of their games, but this is the full version.

Let’s Golf! is remarkably similar to Hot Shots Golf which you might have played on Playstation or PSP. The graphics can get a little choppy at times, but this game still rules and features Instant Play, Tournament, and Multiplayer modes that support pass ‘n play and wifi. If you like humiliating your friends get them all together, download this game, and try beating each other’s asses!

Now back to why the price image looks odd… for some unknown reason, Let’s Golf! isn’t showing up in App Store searches. Only the lite version is showing up, so the only way I know to get this game is to download PandoraBox first (yes it’s free), look for Let’s Golf! under the On Sale tab at the bottom of the screen (or search for it), and then tap the FREE button which will take you to the App Store page where you can install it. Seems like a big hassle for getting this game, but PandoraBox is great too… where do you think I keep finding these app sales to announce? 8)

Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey

Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Imagine a game with pictures straight out of your favorite childhood picture finding book. Now combine that with the technology of an iPhone and the great game play from Ludia. Add a some cute music, bundle it all together and you get  Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey. This app is a Where’s Waldo book with some extras. The game is set up as an adventure game where you follow Waldo, Whitebeard the Wizard, Wendy, and other characters through a journey to collect the 12 mystical scrolls. When you collect all 12 scrolls, Whitebeard the Wizard will reveal to Waldo an important secret that Waldo has been searching for. At the starting you can choose normal game play or kids. The kids version is noticeably easier as it will make sure the item/person you are looking for is always in the area it brings you (in other words, you don’t have to move the screen view around).  The first few levels are tutorials and guide you through the game play. Each level is basically set up the same: you get the entire screen open to search for the characters, then you get parts of the picture sectioned off to help you locate some items. Your companion, Spot, will provide you with hints if you are ever stuck. What made this game interesting was that they also had some items marked with a diamond or star. The diamond would lead you exactly to where one of the hidden items are, and the star would present a mini game where you catch the stars to try and obtain a perfect score. At the end of each level, you get ranked based on speed. You can get 1-5 stars. As you make your way through the game, you meet more of Waldo’s friends and enemies and face more challenges. The only down side of the otherwise great game is that you can’t zoom in/out. I found that using only your finger and the small screen of your iPhone was a bit challenging to locate some things and would have liked to be able to pinch and zoom in or out so that I could see more of the picture at once.  Where’s Waldo is currently $2.99, so if you are looking for a fun app to kill time or something to keep your child occupied during a car trip, you should definitely get this app.

App Sale: Tap Tap Revenge 3

App Sale: Tap Tap Revenge 3 is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Tap Tap Revenge 3 is on sale for free – normally $.99

If you’ve been tapping away at Tap Tap Revenge 2.6 because you got it when it was free and didn’t want to pay for Tap Tap 3, the tables have turned! Now 2.6 costs a buck and 3 is free.

Tap Tap Revenge 3 is all kinds of fancy with 1 player, 2 player, and online play modes and of course it lets you download “real” music from real artists you’ve probably heard on the radio or on your MTV. For the uninitiated, Tap Tap Revenge is basically a mobile variation on Guitar Hero where your instrument is your iPhone and you tap along to the beat of the music.

I like that Tapulous has really taken this concept and sprinted with it, but at the same time I’m a little disappointed with Tap Tap 3’s stability… even after restarting my iPhone after downloading the game, I still had some issues with the app freezing up on me. It’s still a very playable game, though, and I have a feeling Tapulous is already working on fixing known bugs in the system. If you like playing along with music and discovering new stuff to listen to, get this app while the price is zero.

App Sale: Bebbled: The XMAS Challenge

App Sale: Bebbled: The XMAS Challenge is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Bebbled: The XMAS Challenge is on sale for free – normally $.99

Bebbled is one of those puzzle games that will drive you up the freakin’ wall if you’re the type of person who absolutely refuses to give up! It’s a little like reMovem with all the pretty colors and match gameplay, but it also lets you rotate your iPhone to rearrange the balls.

Like reMovem, your basic task is to knock out like-colored groups of “bebs” with double-taps. The more bebs you can take out at once the more points you score, and if you eliminate an entire column then everything to the left will slide over to fill the gap. You can play Freestyle which is casual and pressure-free, and the really hardcore puzzle solving comes in Campaign mode where you need to meet certain goals in order to clear the level. I made it through the first four levels in Campaign and that was all I could manage; hopefully your brain is bigger than mine (most are) if you’re planning to get to Level 5.

Even though this game is called “The XMAS Challenge” that doesn’t mean you need to dump it on December 26th. It includes both themed and non-themed versions of the game, and I think I’d be willing to pay a dollar for it if I were more of a Puzzler but you can get it for free until December 31st!

iSanta 2010 is on sale for free – normally $.99

If you need a diversion to keep the kids busy, iSanta 2010 might fit the bill. I repeat… if you need a diversion to keep THE KIDS busy… see, this isn’t really a grownup’s game. The goal is to drop presents down chimneys and you need to drop presents of the right color into houses that match, and the action is pretty slow but it’s probably about right for the tots.

I don’t know that I’d pay a dollar for iSanta 2010 ‘cuz I don’t have any kids, but if I did I’d think about it. The graphics are decent and it’s a very Christmasy game, so there’s no harm in trying it for free.
