Spell Like a Pirate: Words With Pirates Swashbuckles Onto App Store

Spell Like a Pirate: Words With Pirates Swashbuckles Onto App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

September 19th was national Talk Like a Pirate Day, and Newtoy, the developers of Words With Friends, decided that the day shouldn’t go unmarked. Hence the new arrival of Words With Pirates on the App Store. If you’re a bit too skittish to actually talk like a pirate in honor of our proud national holiday, perhaps you should download the app instead and enjoy a bit of private pirate revelry.

Words With Pirates is just like Words With Friends, but with some notable differences. First, you spell mainly with Y, A, R, G, H, and the brand-new ! character. In other words, you’re just roaring “ARRRGH!” and various permutations over and over again. And the entire app is draped with a pirate theme—you challenge your friends to duels, not games, for example. It’s a lot like using Facebook in Pirate English.

The game is free—for now. Apparently it won’t be sticking around for long, just long enough to briefly celebrate piracy and get Newtoy some publicity. Oh, well. If you want to show off your piratey dialogue skills, sail on over to the App Store and snag the free app. Happy belated Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Ubrain Adds Binaural Beats To Your Tunes

Ubrain Adds Binaural Beats To Your Tunes is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Binaural beat apps are a dime a dozen in the App Store, but most of them will drive even the most patient appsters nuts with their obnoxious sounds. I like the idea of binaural apps, but listening to weird nature sounds with beats in the background isn’t my idea of having fun.

Ubrain changes the way the binaural app works by overlaying the desired beats over your own music. Before you start your session, you answer a short questionnaire, with questions like “What are you doing?” and “How would you like to feel?”. After you finish, you can start your music, which sounds exactly like your music is supposed to sound.

I didn’t really hear a difference until I put on a podcast just to see if anything was really added. After throwing on some Radiolab, I heard some noticeable weirdness to the track. It didn’t sound like a beat was playing, but there was a weird, persistent static to Jad Abumrad’s otherwise smooth voice. Binaural podcasting is obviously not the intended way to use Ubrain, but perhaps it still works.

Whether or not binaural audio really does anything, it is definitely fun to toy with. If you can convince yourself that some odd beats will change your mood, perhaps it really will.

“We all know that music affects your mood,” said Paul van Dyk, the globally acclaimed Grammy nominated DJ and audio architect, after trying Ubrain. “Binaural beats can boost these effects and increase your energy level, help to focus, or calm you down to relax, and I experienced this firsthand while using Ubrain.”

    Coming Soon From Gameloft

Coming Soon From Gameloft is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Gangstar: Miami Vindication – Nobody has ever given Gameloft an award for being creative in any way, shape, or form but they do typically put out solid games. Gangstar, the app that out-Grand Theft Auto’d Grand Theft Auto by coming out first in the app store is coming out with a new version called Vice City Miami Vindication.

Expect all sorts of GTA-like mayhem, including gratuitous violence, wild vehicle driving, 75 new levels, and a script that promises to be better than the first Gangstar iteration. Gameloft is calling Miami Vindication “the most ambitious crime simulation ever developed for handheld”, which is a lofty claim considering Rockstar’s solid GTA releases.

Anyways, be sure to check out the newly released screenshots after the break.

Dungeon Hunter 2 – Hello Diablo? Dungeon Hunter 2 is sequel to the superb Dungeon Hunter. I don’t think anyone would deny the similarities between Dungeon Hunter and Diablo, but without an official Diablo app, nobody is complaining.

Expect more of the same formula, with more demons to kill, more quests to complete, and more fancy graphics to look at. Gameloft is also including Game Center integration as well as an auto match up feature for multiplayer gameplay.

While you are patiently awaiting its arrival, enjoy the new game trailer!

Be Aware Of Your Suroundings With Awareness

Be Aware Of Your Suroundings With Awareness is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Every so often I find myself next to a car on the freeway with a driver that has earbuds in his ear. While the driver is jamming out to presumably whatever is on his iPhone, I often wonder what would happen if someone honked at him. Would he hear it?

The worst is when you see someone walking around with earbuds. Like a driver on a cell phone, the person walking is typically oblivious to their surroundings. They cross streets without looking, stop right in front of people on sidewalks, and will turn on a dime without any indication. People with earbuds are a hazard, particularly when they have the noise cannelling variety.

To combat this, essensy has created Awareness! The Headphone App. What Awareness! does is uses the iPhone’s internal microphone to pump sound to you while you are listening to your tunes. For example, if a train is coming, blaring its horn to warn you of its impending arrival, Awareness! will pump the trains sound from the microphone into your earbuds.

The app is pretty new, and I’m sure it needs some tweaks to be perfect, but it is getting a good amount of iTunes love. There are a few bad reviews, but the majority are five star reviews that say things like, “What an awesome app!!!!” and “I love it, LOVE IT”.

If you often find yourself in harms way due to your high end Shure headphones, I implore you to give Awareness a try. For the sake of humanity, just do it.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula Coming To iPad

Bram Stoker’s Dracula Coming To iPad is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Call me old fashioned, but I typically like to read my books on paper. Maybe it’s my pride in ownership, or maybe it’s just me thinking like an antique, but if I’m going to buy a book, it’s going to be a real one. Unless it has more to offer.

PadWorx Digital Media is releasing an interactive version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula to the iPad just in time for people to read for Halloween. The interactive eBook will feature, according to the developer, “300 pages of text, animation, gameplay, and touch screen technology that creates the definitive interactive, user-driven experience”. The pages will have all sorts of interactive elements, from leaves that need to be swept off pages to lanterns that need to be used to uncover words.

“Our new interactive version of Dracula is unlike anything I’ve ever seen on the iPad,” said Jeffery Alan Schechter, director and producer at PadWorx Digital Media, Inc. “From fans of the original classic tale, to the blood and romance fans of the Twilight books and movies, to tech savvy enthusiasts, there are plenty of elements to keep everyone reading for hours. We’ve created original illustrations, animation, sounds and touch screen elements that work together with the text on each page, drawing readers in and allowing them to uncover a new tale worth telling.”

I’ll have to spend some time with the book/app to see if I really like it, but I do like that it offers more than the simple book experience. If I’m going to buy a book on an iPad, I think that it should do something more than my paperback copy. This one looks like it does a lot more.

    Meatwad Comes To Your iPhone

Meatwad Comes To Your iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Turner Broadcasting is pairing up with the company that loves the ™, ustwo™ (.™, ..™, …™) to create its newest Adult Swim game, Meatstroke. Based on the hit Adult Swim show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Meatstroke is a funny new arcade game featuring one of the shows stars, Meatwad. Just in case you don’t know who or what Meatwad is, he is a flying, talking piece of meat that lives in a house with a talking milkshake and some talking french fries. Like most of the shows on Adult Swim, Aqua Teen Hunger Force comes completely out of left field.

Meatstroke’s simple objective is to save the talking, mutant piece of meat from the heat as he, according to ustwo™, “floats through the sky in search of sustenance.” As much as people like to see meat cooked, a charred meatball would be the end of our hungry crusader. Levels are filled with traps set up by the sun, clouds that you must use to protect your meaty character, and of course the sustenance you need to gather.

“MeatStroke is a delicious treat for Adult Swim fans, packed full of flavour, fantasy and fun.” says Joe Braman of Adult Swim.

Meatstroke is only available in the European market as of now, but hopefully it’ll cross the Atlantic soon. Sorry US gamers (including me, darn it).

Movie Night Out Makes Planning Much Nicer

Movie Night Out Makes Planning Much Nicer is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Movie Night Out is a perfect app for planning your night, assuming that you are going to go see a movie. Instead of going to multiple websites or using multiple apps to handle the task, Movie Night Out plans the whole night for you, no matter what kind of night you want to have.

By choosing what you want to start and end your night with, whether it be dinner, nightlife, coffee, dessert, shopping, etc. as well as what kind of night you want to have (date night, family night, etc.), the app picks the perfect places to go and the perfect movie to see. Movie Night Out works by using using the in house NCM database for movie recommendations and CitySearch for everything else, meaning that you not only get to see what the app recommends, but you can also view all sorts of details about everything chosen for you.

If you don’t like something after reading a bad review or not liking the movie trailer, just swipe it away with a simple flick, or dig deeper into the selection by choosing your specific desires (i.e., type of food, type of bar, or what you’re shopping for). And if you want to call ahead to make reservations, that’s only a click away too. Or you can customize your night by picking a specific movie from the theaters around you and have the app plan everything else. Everything that you would need for your night is right at your fingertips.

Now all I have to do is get the app to plan my “date night” to “randomly” include Machete. “Hey, honey, I didn’t pick it — the app did!”
