REVIEW – “Perform crazy experiments and build machines in this creative game!”
Crazy Machines Action! is a game where you not only use your brain to build machines that complete the experiment but in this game you also have to manually perform some of the actions that will complete the experiment. It is a great way to use your brain while giving the game a very interactive feel.
When you start the game you will be hit with one of its biggest faults. There are waaaay too many tutorial levels which take waaaay too much time explaining simple things. I was about ready to give up on this game long before I got to any real levels. So be prepared for lots of tutorials and then a few incredibly simple levels before you get to anything really entertaining. So do not start this game when you’re looking for something fun right off the bat because you’re going to have a bit of a wait and you don’t want to get prematurely frustrated with this game.
Once you start getting to the actual levels the game starts to get fun. You then have to use components and manipulate components in order to achieve a certain result such as popping a balloon, turning on a light or putting a ball into a basket. When the experiment starts you may have to use your fingers in order to get certain components to move or turn on such as working a fan, pushing a ball or sliding a crate.
Now the graphics for this game are great and the sounds are decent enough. The puzzles eventually got hard enough to be challenging but with the tutorials that seemed to take forever.
I like the fact that you can start multiple accounts on the same iphone and that it tracks your progress just like a real video game might. I think the professor is excellently done and he may have been the only reason I survived through the tutorials.
It does take a little practice to manipulate things correctly when you are running an experiment. It took more than a few tries for me to get the ball to roll where I wanted it to the first time. I also noticed that the instructions for one or two of the levels seemed to be off. I remember one mentioning moving a crate when there wasn’t even a crate in the level.
This game reminds me a bit of a game I used to love playing as a kid although that one included mice who were part the experiments and that always added to the fun. This one has its own charm in that you are required to intervene in order to make things happen which is nice but I am not sure if it was enough to really wow me over.
Honestly I didn’t make it very far in this game but I do plan on giving it another try and I figure now that I have worked through most of the boring levels, revisiting it should turn out much more fun. If you feel up to it, give this game a try. It is fun and creative and it is a great way to think out of the box on how to construct things and make things happen.
