One of my favorite things about my iPhone is the texting application. It makes it extremely easy to keep track of your conversations with individuals, and with iOS4 it’s very quick to switch to it and then back to whatever you were doing before. With that said the cost of texting can add up quickly, and is not even available if you just have an iPod Touch. Whatever your situation Messagey! is coming to your rescue!

! is an app that will allow you to send and receive text messages on any device running iOS. It offers a variety of features, including push notifications and a unique interface that makes switching between conversations even faster!

When you open up Messagey! for the first time you’ll be asked if you want to use it in “Messagey!” mode or in “Classic” mode. I would recommend that you at least try the Messagey! mode. Classic mode will basically behave like the built-in Messages app, while Messagey! mode will allow you to switch between conversations by swiping side to side!

Once you decide what mode to use you’ll also need to sign up for a messagey account. This will allow you to both send messages and also receive them on your device. The process for signing up is fairly quick, and I didn’t have any problems with it myself.

Once you get everything set up you’ll be greeted by the main screen. To add a new conversation all you have to do is touch the “+” button at the top of the screen. This will bring up a pop-up window with a list of all your contacts to choose from.

Once you choose a contact to start a conversation with you’ll notice that the name of that contact will show up in the bar at the top of the screen. This is the bar that you will use to switch between conversations. To switch conversations all you have to do is drag that same bar to the left or the right.

While the core of this app is nice, what really sets it off is the customization of it. If you touch the settings button in the lower left corner of the screen you’ll have the ability to do all kinds of things. One really nice feature is the ability to have messages from others with Messagey! automatically forwarded to the app when it recognizes your email address or phone number.

Another cool feature is the ability to turn the background of the app into whatever your camera sees. This makes it possible for you to type text messages or emails while you’re still paying attention to what’s in front of you!

There are two ways to go with this app, free and paid. The free version of the app has a limit of 30 text messages a day and is ad-supported. If you want to get rid of these limitations you can do so by paying either $0.99 a year or $1.99 for a lifetime subscription!

While this obviously isn’t as deeply integrated into the iPhone as the Messages app it can be a great way to save some money! The texts do go through through fairly quickly as well, but there is a little bit of a delay occasionally. With that said, this is still really a must have though app for iPod Touch users as it can add texting to your device for free! Whether you own an iPhone, an iPod touch, or even an iPad you should at least give this app a look because it is hard to beat free! You may find that you like it even more than you thought you would!

REVIEW – “This app is a real attention-getter!”

Everyone once in a while you come across an app and think “Why didn’t I think of that?” Well SwingWords by Vidiag is one of those apps! Swingwords is a utility that will allow you to communicate messages to your friends that are far away! The basic idea is that you write a short message into the ShowWords app and then wave your device back and forth in the air. The app will detect the speed that you are moving the device at and display your message one letter at a time, thus creating the illusion that the entire message is being displayed in the air!

When you open up this app you’ll be greeted by a brief splash screen. A word of warning, there is music that is played during the splash screen and unfortunately the music does not pay attention to whether your device is set to “vibrate.” Once you are past the splash screen you’ll see a list of pre-programmed phrases that you can use right away. Touching any of them will bring you to the “Editor” screen.

The editor in this app allows you to do all kinds of things. Not only can you enter any text you want, but you can change the color of each individual letter, change the size of the words as they scroll, and change all kinds of detailed options about how the words are shown as you move the device. There is even an option to “mirror” all of the words which will allow you to see what it looks like in a mirror!

To start showing a word all you have to do is touch the “Run” button in the upper right corner of the editor. You’ll see a message telling you to use the app in the dark and wave it at a constant rhythm. The more constant your rhythm the easier it will be to read the words that result. I found that while it took a little bit of getting used to that it really wasn’t that hard. The only thing to keep in mind is that you really can’t go super fast because the words tend to kind of blur together.

If you’d rather create a new phrase all together all you have to do is touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the main menu. This will bring up the same blank editor but without any text entered into it. From the main menu you can also remove and/or reorder phrases. This will help you keep phrases together that you might want to use in the future!

Another great feature of this app is that it is able to use “Emojis.” In case you don’t know what those are they are basically a set of emoticons and other small pictures that are included on most Japanese phones. The iPhone has support for them, but it must be enabled. Not only does this app support using them, but if you have not enabled them already it will allow you to enable them!

It really is amazing that such a simple app can be so much fun. While some may roll their eyes and talk about how “there really is an app for everything,” I can confidently say the entertainment value of this app alone is worth the meager $0.99 that it will set you back. There have been a variety of apps like this one that allow you to do messaging. While this kind of app is not for everyone, Pushme.to is one of the best ones that I have seen. Pushme.to is a service that allows to sign up for an account and then send and receive messages to other users of Pushme.to, as well as receive messages directly from the Pushme.to website!

Now some of you may be wondering why you would want to have another app and format for sending/receiving text messages. Well there are several reasons that this might interest you. Maybe you have an iPod Touch and so you don’t have a phone number. Or maybe you send messages to the same people a lot and don’t want to have to pay for all of those messages. Maybe you travel out of the country frequently and don’t want to worry about international data charges for sending text messages. Whatever your reason, if you are looking for a solution Pushme.to is one of the best solutions I have seen!

The interface of Pushme.to is very simple. When you open the app for the first time you will be asked to sign up for an account with Pushme.to. The process is extremely easy, and then all you have to is check your email for the confirmation to finalize your free account. Once you account is set up and you load the app back up you are taken to a list of all your messages, and there will be a “welcome” message waiting for you.

In the upper right corner you will see two little buttons. There is a “refresh” button which will reload your messages and a button that looks like a discussion bubble to start a new message. To send a message all you have to do is enter the username of the person you want to send your message to and then type your message.

Another great feature of Pushme.to is that you can actually put entries in your address book that will open up Pushme.to with that persons nickname already entered in. All you have to do is type Pushme://nameofuser. This makes it extremely easy to quickly message someone just as you would with text messaging as long as they have the Pushme.to app installed as well.

Whatever your situation may be it is quite possible that this app could save you a lot of money, or maybe even add extra functionality to your device(in the case of iPod users). In either case I would definitely recommend Pushme.to over similar text messaging clients? Why you ask? Because of the excellent response time that this app has. I have tested this app repeatedly under different network circumstances and found this app to be even more responsive than text messaging!
