There’s something to be said for knowing which drinks will get you how drunk in what amount of time. For one thing, you don’t want to be falling out of your chair at Last Call. For another, as this game indicates, you don’t want to lose it in front of a hottie.
Girls & Drinks by Baytex Software turns the art of drinking into a virtual achievement. With the combination of beer goggles and video game dexterity, Girls & Drinks challenges you to “drink” the right amount of alcohol in just the right amount of time so that you don’t pass out, but you aren’t hit with a cold reality either. If you do it right, you’ll see the female bartender in front of you go from frumpy to angelic in just five drinks. Choose from a wide variety of alcohol levels from lagers to whiskey and then carefully tip or flick your iPhone to choose how quickly you drink it. If your drunk-meter on the left reaches the top before five drinks, you pass out and lose.
This game gets high marks for graphics and an interesting use of the accelerometer, and the amount of knowledge required to know which drinks have what alcohol content is an intriguing concept, but there’s really not much more to the game. It’s fun for a couple of plays – maybe three to see each one of the girls – but after that, there’s not much to pull you back in. I have to be honest, though, I’m not the best person to go to when it comes to choosing drinks. I pretty much just guessed which drinks would have the right amount of alcohol. And even despite that, I won more times than I lost.
The game is, however, quite pleasing to look at. And not just because of the hot chicks behind the bar. The whole game has a genuine pub feel with graphics that really pop out of the virtual interface. The drinks look exactly like they should and the way in which the glasses empty – the the liquid draining, the foam floating, the ice falling – looks remarkable. It’s not just a picture of a drink; it’s a real drink.
Get Girls & Drinks if you’re looking for some eye-candy, but if you want some fun, re-playable game action, this probably isn’t the app you’re looking for. There’s definitely a market for this kind of game, but I’m just not in it.
Girls & Drinks requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with both iPhone & iPod Touch.

With this app you will never be stuck wondering just what to order at the bar again. Now you can search for drink recommendations based on a number of different categories. This little app is great for any bar hopper that is looking to try something to always fit the bar scene they are in or something that will make them feel like they are on the other side of the world.
When you start up Drinkspiration you are graced with a screen that has a drink category. If you slide your finger left and right you will shuffle through the different drink categories. You can choose from trendy drinks, drinks with an edge, drinks to fit whatever sort of bar scene you are in and even drinks based on the type of glass you want to drink out of. There are a large number of categories so chances are you will find a category that suits 
your mood.
Once you pick a category you will then be taken to a list of drinks. Once again you shuffle through to see the different drink recommendations. The app will show you a picture of the drink as well as everything that goes in it. Click the picture and you’ll get the full recipe just in case the bartender is not familiar with whatever drink you are ordering. Decide on a drink? Well then click “I’ll Have one.” The app then gives you the option of sharing it on a few different social networking sites so that you can let everyone know just what you are drinking.
Once you click “I’ll Have One” the drink choice gets stored in the history section along with the date and time that you had it. So if you really like the drink you ordered you can easily go back and know just what it was so that you can order it again.
Another fun feature of this app is that you can look and see what people are all over the world are drinking. Want the same thing as what they are drinking in Paris? How about Mexico City? You have the option of touring the world without ever leaving the bar.
If you still cannot find a drink that tickles your fancy then try the search option. From there you can search by type of drink, occasion and taste. Or if you want to look up the recipe of a drink you like then you can easily type in the name and search for it as well.
This is a great tool for anyone that wants to try new drinks. It is by no means comprehensive and you might find it a bit disappointing that some of the categories only have half a dozen different drinks in them. But for the casual user this is a good app. If you are a constant bar hopper then you may find the lack of up front suggestions not worth the effort of downloading the app. There are a few other options out there that are more comprehensive but I do like the layout and the user friendly design of this app.
