Version 2.2

REVIEW – “Study for your driving test, or simply brush up on the rules of the road!”

DE1 200x300 Drivers Ed iPhone App ReviewBeing prepared for that first driving test can be stressful but Drivers Ed gives you access to all the important information that you need to know. This app includes over 300 questions that you are likely to encounter and they cover all the information that all drivers need to know.DE21 200x300 Drivers Ed iPhone App Review

The app offers a few different ways in which to study information. You can do practice tests which allow you to choose the number of questions and then go through the test as if you were taking your actual driving exam. The test is then scored and saved so that you are able to monitor your progress.

There is also a flash card feature which presents you with a question. To see the answer you simply tap the blank space below the question. There is no scoring in flash card mode but it does allow you to learn the information before moving on to a practice test.

The app even includes driving manuals for the different states. Now these may not always be up to date  and they are downloaded from websites, so you will need internet access in order to gain access to the manuals for the first time. After that they should be stored on your iPhone for any time access.

DE3 200x300 Drivers Ed iPhone App ReviewThis app is meant to be an advertisement of sorts for Driversed.com and as such you can expect to see subtle plugs here and there. But for those who are interested in taking Driver’s Ed, the website may be worth a look.

This is an easy to use app that goes over a variety of questions. Now there is no guarantee that the questions covered will be on your exam so it is always a good idea to thoroughly study the driver’s manual for your state as well. Personally I think that many adults as well as teens could use a refresher course in the rules of the road, because just about all of us have been at a four way stop and realized that we are the only ones that know what to do. ;)

This app is free so give it a try and see if it helps you succeed on your test and earn that all important driver’s license!

New Ridge Racer Sequel Headed for iPhone

New Ridge Racer Sequel Headed for iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

ridgeracer

Namco Bandai announced that it is developing an iPhone version of Ridge Racer, its popular arcade-styled racing franchise. Ridge Racer: Accelerated is set to premiere in the App Store by the end of the month.

After debuting in arcades in 1993 and following up with several sequels on the original PlayStation, the Ridge Racer series most recently appeared on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Judging from the screenshots released so far, the new iPhone version appears to feature similar gameplay to Ridge Racer 6 and 7, with speed-boosting nitrous awarded for drifting around corners.

Accelerated will feature accelerometer-based steering when it premieres in the App Store in Japan later this month. Namco Bandai has issued no word as to whether a U.S. release is planned.

Driver ($6.99)

Version – 1.1.1

REVIEW – “Test your driving skills with this intense action game!”

iPhone App Review - Driver 1If you’ve been gaming for a while you may remember a game that was released originally for the PS one that predated similar games such as Grand Theft Auto and Crazy Taxi.  Driver is a game where you are challenged with evading the cops to do all kinds of various missions such as helping bank robbers in a getaway, and rescuing people that are being transported to prison.  If you are a fan of games like this you will not be disappointed at what Driver has to offer!

The first thing I noticed with this game is that the download is considerably larger than the majority of games in the iPhone App Review - Driver 2atmosphere.  Once you get it downloaded you will see why.  From the amazing intro movie and  character voices, down to the amazing textures that you see during gameplay this game is a visual and auditory masterpiece!

Once you have finished watching the intro movie, or skipped by touching the screen and touching the “skip” button in the upper left corner you will see a title screen and then the main iPhone App Review - Driver 3menu.  The music here is nice and sets the mood, while the menu is simple yet very sharp looking with a car on the left side.

You will notice from the menu that there are several different play modes available.  I would recommend that you go to the “Training” mode first and familiarize yourself with the controls before you do anything else.  A lot of the more modern games are pretty easy so that anyone can play them but Driver was not and is not that way.  Thankfully the Developers did include an “Easy” mode in the game as well as a mode with the original difficulty settings.

As I played this game I noticed that there it extremely iPhone App Review - Driver 4easy to spin your tires and that there is was also a little difficult to differentiate between the control pad buttons without constantly checking where your finger is.  The controls do make sense, but I think it would be better if the “peel out” and “emergency brake” buttons were not so close to your directional buttons.  This gets a little confusing, and you really don’t want to be peeling out while trying to turn as it just causes you to spin in circles.

If you find the control pad too difficult there is also the option to control with the accelerometer but, the I thought that control pad was easier at least for me.  Once you are familiar with the controls you can play driving games, “take a ride” or get started with the main game “Undercover.”  In the main story you are Tanner, an undercover cop who is working to expose a national crime ring.  You do various iPhone App Review - Driver 5“jobs” for these criminals in an effort to work your way to the top and take them down.

The cut scenes are very well done with great voice acting and visuals.  There are few games that offer a story as deep and well emphasized as Driver does.  If you have played the original game before there will be nothing new, but to new gamers or those of us that missed this game the first time it adds a lot of depth to the gameplay.

If you love games where you avoid cops and the emphasis is on driving skill then you should definitely take a look at Driver because it is one of the best driving games I have played on the iPhone.  The maps that you race on are large and there is a lot going on.  I was extremely impressed that the game doesn’t slow down at all even when there are tons of objects and cars on the screen!

To sum it all up I would say that, while this game might be frustrating to a new generation of gamers that think they ought to be able to breeze through any game on the first try, if you stick with this game is a lot of fun!  It is a very good port of the original and it will offers you several hours of enjoyment.  The question I had is whether the game is worth the hefty price-tag of $6.99.  To this I would have to say resoundingly yes!  It is obvious that Gameloft put in the man hours with one and I very much enjoyed reviewing it.  Whether you are looking for an app to kill some time, or a full gaming experience look for “Driver” in the App Store today!

Codemasters Brings F1 2009 to App Store

Codemasters Brings F1 2009 to App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

f12009

Despite the racing genre’s popularity on the iPhone, the App Store’s library includes few Formula 1-licensed titles. Codemasters is out to fill this niche with F1 2009 ($6.99), a sim-styled racer that recreates a number of famous circuits worldwide.

While sim fans may appreciate the game’s focus on challenge and realism, Codemasters has included a selection of driving aids to make the experience as accessible as possible. Players may activate racing lines, cornering indicators, and a braking assist feature, among other options, if they have trouble staying on the road.

F1 2009 includes 17 officially licensed racing circuits, along with every team, car, and driver from the 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The game also features AGON Online social networking features, allowing players to share their best times with rivals worldwide.

Gameloft Ports Driver to iPhone

Gameloft Ports Driver to iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

driver

Before Grand Theft Auto hit consoles, PlayStation owners had Driver, a crime-themed stunt driving game that shared many similarities with Rockstar’s flagship series. Gameloft now brings Driver ($6.99) to the iPhone with dramatically upgraded visuals and a new touch screen-based control scheme.

In Driver, players assume the role of Tanner, an undercover police officer posing as a getaway driver for the criminal underworld. Players must outrun the police, safely escort criminal contacts, and make quick deliveries over the course of 40 story missions.

I rented Driver back in the day and recall playing it from start to finish, but otherwise remember absolutely nothing about the experience. Except for the frustrating parking garage tutorial mission. Man, that thing was horrible. Hopefully Gameloft’s version includes an easier tutorial, or at least a skippable one.
