iPhone App Review: Home Screen Wallpaper Maker

One of the precious few ways which Apple allows its users to customize their iOS devices is by changing the wallpaper, on both the home screen and the lock screen. In fact, as iOS devices become more and more popular, a unique background is sometimes the fastest way to figure out whose device is whose. Not only that, a really cool wallpaper can make you feel like you have a whole new iPhone, even if only for a few minutes.

Home Screen Wallpaper Maker is a nice, free way to create attractive backgrounds for your device. Sure you can just snap a picture and use that for your wallpaper, but this app allows you to customize the pictures before saving them back to the camera roll and selecting them as backgrounds.

Features

The app is simple to use. You first either select one of the many included high-quality backgrounds, or select a picture from your camera roll. Then you can choose to add frames to your app icons, then you save the background back to your camera roll to use as a wallpaper. There is even a random button, though the results may obviously not be to your liking.

Limitations in iOS itself prevent the app from being able to directly change your background, which is why you must save the image first to your camera roll and then select it as a background.

Pros and Cons

The app works smoothly and does a great job of adding the frames to the icon placeholders. The frames add a nice touch of class to otherwise static backgrounds. There is also a nice varied selection of background images to choose from, though you can of course get background images from many other sources.

The only things I wish this app had to offer was the ability to take a picture and use that as a background, rather than having to only choose from the camera roll; and more effects to add to pictures that you choose for backgrounds (some basic color balance effects, brightness and contrast, etc).

All in all, this is a great free app that does a nice job of spicing up your iOS device’s otherwise bland wallpaper.

Home Screen Wallpaper Maker is free, and has minimal ads.

Scarred for life is an understatement here.

Remember the old Conan skit where he would take two people that were dating at the time and then mix their photos together to create their new children? Well this is what the Home Gene-Splicing Kit can do for you. It lets you isolate the head from the eyes, mouth, and nose to create a horrible, horrible creature.

The process is fairly simple and works well, although the menus are a bit slow and cumbersome. You simply take a picture of someone or something, resize the image to conform to where the app things all the parts of the head should be, and violá! From there, you go to the gene splicing lab where you can mix and match to your heart’s content with the photos that you take, along with the collection of people and animals that are already included in the app.

Want to see what you would look like if you were crossed with your dog? Or you, your significant other, and a sheep? By all means, give it a whirl.

To test the power (the awesome power) that the app holds, I decided to create a man-dog. Taking the picture of my head worked great, but the dog was a bit trickier. After taking the picture of the dog, the app wanted me to resize the dogs head to fit in an outline of a human head. Given the my dogs head, along with most dogs, is more of a box than an oval, I had to take a few pictures to be able to isolate the mouth from the rest of the head.

In the end, I was left with what looks like a superhero with a mask that looks like a dog. It’s frightening. Pick this one up at your own risk.

Funny Call (Free)

Version – 1.2

Review – “Prank calling taken to a whole new level!”

Funny Call 1 200x300 Funny Call iPhone App ReviewWhether you’re prank calling people, or you just want to freak out a friend apparently “there’s an app for that!” Funny Call is an app that allows you to alter the sound of your voice when you make a phone call from within the app. The app is free to try out and Funny Call 2 200x300 Funny Call iPhone App Reviewthen has several different price points that you can buy more minutes at.

When you open the app, you’ll start out at the main screen. There are a variety of different “voices” that you can choose from. Once you’ve selected a voice, the app actually starts out in “preview” mode so you can hear what it sounds like on your own voice! The app also tells you that you need to use headphones to get the best results.

Once you’ve got your voice ready and you’re ready to make a call just touch the “Place a Call” button at the bottom of the screen. When you do you’ll see Funny Call 3 200x300 Funny Call iPhone App Reviewa dialer on the screen. In the upper right corner of the screen is a “Contacts” button that will allow you to dial anyone from your contacts list.

I found that the phone call’s from this app took a little bit longer than a typical call to connect. The calls were definitely high quality though, and there were no noticeable glitches in the audio once I was connected. At any time you can go back to the voiceFunny Call 4 200x300 Funny Call iPhone App Review select screen by touching the “Effects” button in the lower right corner of the screen!

The variety of voices in this app is also a good selling point. There are a ton of different voices from “Creepy,” and “Low” to voices like “Chipmunk,” and “Cyborgs”. My favorite voice was probably the “Creepy” voice, but there are several other good ones to choose from.

While I would recommend this app to anyone just to try out, it can get pricey very quickly if you choose to buy more minutes and continue to use it. Currently minutes are selling for $0.99 for 3, 4.99 for 30 minutes and $9.99 for 60 minutes! With that said, the app is free to try, and the true prankster within may just find that it’s worth it in the long run!

Touch Chaos (0.99)

Version – 1.2

Review – “Find out just how fast your fingers can be!”

If you’re looking for a good way to get used to touching exactlyTouch Chaos 1 200x300 Touch Chaos iPhone App Review where you want to on your iPhone you may want to check out Touch Chaos. The basic idea is that you see randomly colored balls flying around the screen, and you have have to touch certain colors as quickly as possible. It may sound simple, but as you get further in, and the balls get more active it gets pretty crazy!

The main menu when you open up Touch Chaos is really simple. There are three buttons: Play, Scores, and Tutorial. The tutorial is just a text-based Touch Chaos 2 200x300 Touch Chaos iPhone App Reviewexplanation of how to play the game. To be honest though most people wouldn’t even need it because the game itself is extremely simple.

Once you’re ready to get started just touch the “Play” button. You’ll be taken to a blank screen with 3 or 4 balls on it to start with. Around the edge of this screen there will be a border that is the color of one or more of the balls on the screen. Your objective is to touch all of the balls that are the same color as the border. Be careful though because the border does change quite frequently!

For every ball that you touch correctly you get points. If you touch a ball that is the wrong color it will turn black and start counting down from 5. If you do not touch that ball within 5 seconds then it will explode and you lose. You will also randomly see black balls like this fly in from the edge of the scree and you’ll need to make sure that they don’t explode either!

At the very beginning there are not very many balls and they all move pretty slowly, but that changes Touch Chaos 3 200x300 Touch Chaos iPhone App Reviewvery quickly! In the upper left corner of the screen you’ll see a number that represents how many points you’ve accumulated in your current game, and in the upper right corner you’ll see what level you’re currently on.

When you finish a game you’ll see a summary of your performance. It shows you your score, level, how many Touch Chaos 4 200x300 Touch Chaos iPhone App Reviewballs you touched, how many times you missed and your Accuracy! From this screen you can choose to play again or go back to the menu.

One thing that I would really like to see added to this game is some kind of global high-scores feature. While it is definitely fun to compete against yourself and to see how high you can score, it’s hard to beat human competition! With that said, the high score feature is pretty simple and it keeps track of your scores quite well!

Overall this game is just a lot of fun, and best of all it’s the kind of game that you can really pick up and play for just a few minutes! Whether you’re looking for a quick game to pass some time, or you just want to work on your touch accuracy, I’d encourage you to give Touch Chaos a look. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Tetrapped – iPhone App Review

Tetrapped – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Tetrapped ($0.99)

Version – 1.0.1

Review – “Familiar shapes in a new type of puzzle game!”

tetrapped 1 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App ReviewTetrapped is a puzzle game that is designed to really make you think. There are no timers or score, it’s just how many moves will it take you to solve the puzzle! The basic idea is that you are given various shaped pieces inside a box and you have to move them tetrapped 2 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Reviewaround each other to get a certain piece in a certain place. While it may sound simple, it can be extremely confusing!

The man menu screen is simple, and yet creative. The main menu is made up of 4 blocks of various shapes that make up your menu options. To get started just touch the “Play” button at the top and you’ll be taken to a tutorial the first time that you do so. Once you finish the tutorial you’ll be taken to the first level. The game defaults to a 6×6 board the first time that you play but there are two other sizes: 7×7 and 8×8 that make it more difficult!

Every time you start a new level you’ll see the “target” block start out where it goes and then move somewhere else. Once that block is in place it is surrounded by some othertetrapped 3 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Review blocks of random shapes. At the top of the screen you’ll see a box that shows how many moves you’ve made and your best score on that level if you’ve already completed it.

To play the game all you have to do is grab the block you want to move and drag it where you want it. You can only move blocks in one direction in 1 “move,” but they can be moved in any direction. The levels are all designed to make you think, and some of them are actually very easy if you think a little outside of the box.

There are three buttons at the bottom of the screen that will take you back to the home screen, allow you to select a new level, or restart the current level you’re working on. Whether you bring up the level select from in-game or through the option at the main menu, you’ll be given a list of the different board sizes to choose from first, and then you’ll be taken to the list of levels for the on you choose.

There are a few basic options that you can set under the “settings” button from the main menu of this tetrapped 4 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Reviewgame. They include the ability to turn certain sound effects on/off, change the color scheme and reset your stats. There is also an option to turn “Auto Advance” on/off. This will send you straight to the next level when you finish when it’s on, or just stay at the finished screen till you do something if it’s off.

The basic concept of the game feels somehow familiar, but at the same time new. One thing that seems to betetrapped 5 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Review missing is a “competition” factor. It would be cool to be able to see the minimum number of moves that are required to solve a particular puzzle. This would give you a number to shoot for and would make the amount of moves that you solve a puzzle in mean a little more.

While I have played a couple of other games that use a concept similar to this game, the “Tetris” shapes really add a new twist that I had not seen before. There is plenty of challenge in this game and it has hundreds of levels that will test your patience for hours on end! The game is currently available for $0.99 and I would definitely recommend it if you need something to pass some time, or if you just enjoy games that make you think.

SketchBook Pro Review

SketchBook Pro Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: Autodesk Inc.
Price: $8.99
Version: 1.2

Design Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Features Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Integration Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.67 out of 5 stars

The iPad’s purpose as a writing device is well recognized. There are countless note taking applications, from the inbuilt Notes application right up to Apple’s Pages. However, as a drawing device, the iPad is not as well known, and Apple hasn’t created a drawing application – let alone have one installed by default. AutoDesk took matters into their own hands with SketchBook Pro for iPad.

SketchBook Pro is an intuitive, fully-featured drawing application, suited for both a quick sketch and a more detailed drawing. The interface is impressively clean for the amount of features that it holds, with full precedence being given to your designs at hand rather than the myriad of customizable options that exist. A small circle close to the edge of the device (changing depending on which way you hold your iPad) provides access to an options bar up at the top or side of your screen, as well a number of quick options: erase layer, undo, redo and enter full screen drawing mode again. This menu bar is also accessible by a three finger swipe down.

The menu bar hosts a number of buttons, including both basic and advanced drawing features. The gallery button provides access to your in-built gallery, where you can see all of your saved drawings, as well as e-mail and export them (more on this later). The usual plus and info icons are present too, adding the ability to create a new document and get information on and help using SketchBook. The Brush Editor tool is probably where most users will spend their time aside from drawing. There are over 75 preset brushes, including pens and markers, pencils and objects. Radius and opacity of each brush is customizable, as is colour in a number of different formats – from block colours, RGB colour codes and almost everything in between. The design is simple for the features that it holds – it is clear that thought has been put into where tools should go.

Basic, essential features like which type of shape to draw and a mirrored drawing tool exist, as well as more advanced characteristics like layers, enabling users to have full control of their work, focusing on certain areas as well as the bigger picture. A 2500% zoom capability compliments the layers feature nicely.

In terms of ease of use, a quick understanding of the menu options goes a long way. Once you’ve covered ground to become familiar with the basics of SketchBook, it becomes very quick to just open up and start drawing. An included help guide sees you on your way nicely. Drawing itself is limited only by the powers of your finger! My art teacher always criticized me for the overuse of a ruler, but you quickly feel at home drawing freehand on SketchBook.

The image export options are rich, with the ability to export to photo library as a flattened (single layer) image to iTunes; PSD to iTunes; flattened e-mail and PSD e-mail. Photos can be imported from your Photo Library, and all creations can be duplicated to ensure a fatal error won’t cause a major setback.

I’m impressed with SketchBook. It will stay on my iPad as the drawing tool of choice. It works seamlessly and operates entirely through you, meaning you can do what you want where you want, without limitation. Highly recommended.
