Review – “A great app for homebuyers and homeowners looking to refinance!”

Whether you’re looking to buy a new house, or you’re looking at refinancing a property, wouldn’t it be great to be able to figure out what a loan would look like anywhere on your phone? Well now you can Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer 1 200x300 Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer iPhone App Reviewwith a $0.99 app called “Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer” for the iOS!

The app itself is pretty simple. To calculate the costs of a loan just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen and fill out the information that you see on the screen.  Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer 2 200x300 Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer iPhone App ReviewYou’ll need to enter the purchase amount, down payment, interest rate, loan term, etc., and then touch the “Calculate” button in the upper right corner of the screen to figure out the costs associated with the proposed loan.

In addition to calculating the actual mortgage cost, you can also add in your escrow as well to get a more accurate number. To do that just touch the “Add Escrow Cost” button at the bottom of the loan information screen. You can then enter in each cost that is a part of your escrow individually, or you can add the total amount of your current escrow if you choose.

The loan breakdown that you get once you’ve calculated it offers a variety of interesting information. It Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer 3 200x300 Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer iPhone App Reviewcalculates the total interest that you’ll pay on the loan, the total amount that you will pay on the loan if it goes as scheduled, and a breakdown of how much you will pay each month towardsMortgage Calculator The Amortizer 4 200x300 Mortgage Calculator The Amortizer iPhone App Review the interest and principal of the loan!

Another great feature of the app is the ability to generate PDF’s of the loan information and email them to anyone! To do this just touch the “Email PDF” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll get the choice of whether or not to include the amortization schedule or not, and then you’ll be taken directly to a form email with the PDF attached to it.

My personal experience with this app is that it made it very easy to get quick figures on what a loan will cost you. Unfortunately what it does not have is a way to calculate what it will cost you to refinance a loan. With that said, the app is only $0.99, and the PDF email feature is a great way to share loan figures with people while on the go. I’d encourage you to head to app store and check it out for yourself today!

This is a great app for monitoring the App Store. Something the is missing from the actual App Store. Being able to keep an eye on certain apps that you may find a little pricey, and know when there are going on sale, is a terrific feature, that will probably never be included by Apple. The “Changes and Updates at a glance” feature is great, if you’re interested in knowing what has recently been updated, or want to ignore updates and focus on new releases only. Seeing as this app is free, there is no reason we cannot recommend this app.

Squirrel 2 In-Depth Review

Squirrel 2 In-Depth Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: Axel Peju
Price: $2.99
Version Reviewed: 2.0

iPhone Integration Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.08 out of 5 stars

Squirrel for iPhone is a finance management app that lets you manage and check your accounts, transactions, and budgets right from your iPhone. It’s designed to sync with the Mac client of the same name. While you can use it without the Mac application, it’s when you combine the two that Squirrel really shines.

Setting Up: Squirrel’s Structure
Squirrel operates using three basic elements—accounts, budgets, and transactions. Accounts are rather self-explanatory. You can create accounts representing checking or savings accounts, credit cards, or even cash. Transactions are labelled with a date and a short description, and show what you’ve spent your money on; budgets let you see whether or not your spending is in line with your goals.

To start using Squirrel, you’ll need to make a few accounts and assign them starting balances. Easy as pie.

Sort that Data
Supplementing those structures are tags and categories. You can have as many categories or tags as you like. The difference? Each transaction can only be in one category, but can have multiple tags.

The point of all this classification is twofold. First, it lets you create budgets within the app. For example, you can set a monthly food budget, or a one-time budget for textbooks (gulp, that’s my problem). Budgets can be created on a yearly, semi-yearly, quarterly, monthly, or one-time basis. From within the iPhone app, you can only create budgets for categories; however, the Squirrel application for Mac supports advanced budgets that adhere to rules (i.e., all transactions that are tagged “x” and are not in category “y”).

Secondly, if you’re using the Mac app, Squirrel will display a pie graph depicting the distribution of your spending. If you’re spending way more on fun than on necessities, you’ll be able to tell at a moment’s glance.

You cannot, however, view categories and tags from within the app—they’re displayed under each transaction, but you can’t say, “show me all transactions in the food category,” for example.

Daily Use
All well and good, but how easy is it to use Squirrel every day? I’ll admit that meticulously keeping track of my spending is annoying, but…well, it’s kind of unavoidable. Unfortunately, it takes a lot (six, to be exact) taps to enter a transaction in Squirrel. You must select the proper account, hit the plus sign, enter the amount, enter a description, and then move on to another screen where you can change other properties. It would be easier if there wasn’t a weird lag at the amount screen as well.

Still, it’s not too bad. Squirrel doesn’t have too many features, but keeps clutter down, and if you’re willing to spend a minute entering data after each purchase it’s a great way to organize your data. The Mac application sync works splendidly (same-named objects result in duplicates rather than risk overwriting data, which I love) and you can even set it to do so automatically. Bravo!

Other assorted features: the ability to set a four-digit passcode (not terribly secure, but still better than nothing), multi-currency support, iOS 4 features like Retina display optimization and multitasking, and autocomplete for categories and tags.

Final Thoughts
Squirrel is a fairly robust finance management app with some great features like live updating budgets, multiple account support, flawless Mac sync, and categories and tags. There are still a few things I don’t like, such as the time it takes to add transactions (my dream: photographing receipts! or just a simpler interface) and the fact that without the Mac application, you can’t take advantage of Squirrel’s full capabilities. However, the app looks great, runs smoothly, and does a good job of keeping your spending organized.

My final verdict: if you’re a Mac user, Squirrel is probably worth having. $24.90 for the desktop version isn’t bad, and the mobile-desktop synchronization is a great system. If you’re using Windows, however, the stripped-down app probably isn’t worth it. Smart budgets, pie graphs, web integration with your online accounts: for these, you’ll need Squirrel for Mac.

Take Time to Track Your Spending with Toshl

Take Time to Track Your Spending with Toshl is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: Free     Score: 8/10     By A. PapachristosToshl

No matter where you go, you will find hundreds of people pinching their pennies in hope of sparing themselves from the upheaval of this economic downturn.  It seems the only way to keep money in your pocket is to count every dime that graces the palm of your hand.  But, if you’re lucky enough to own an iPhone or iPod Touch despite all your money-saving efforts, there is an application that may just help you track your expenses and save money so you can keep that ridiculous phone plan.

Toshl by 3fs promises users a secure and beautifully organized finance tracker that allows users to record their spending and hopefully save on bills in the long run.  Designed with simplicity and ease in mind, entering your information is quick and can be neatly organized by breaking your expenses into tagged groups.

When you startup Toshl, the Timeline will appear as your main screen, which is where you will be able to view all of your listed expenses.  Tap the clock icon in the top left corner to change which expenses appear, choosing the last 30 days, all time or a specific month.  To begin entering expenses, tap the ‘+’ icon in the top right corner to enter the amount spent and tag the expense in order to categorize and organize.  You may create new tags or choose from any you have already created.  After this, you will be asked to confirm the date of the purchase with the ability to add a description for later reference.  You will then see your total spending added together on the main page so you can see your overall amount spent.

The ‘Tags’ tab will let you monitor your spending according to how you have broken them down into categories.  Each category will display your individual purchases as well as the overall total spent under each category.  Under the ‘Settings’ tab, users can login or register with Toshl.com to gain access to graphs, data export and free backup via Wi-Fi or mobile synchronization.  Users may also choose to change their currency or manage multiple persons with the same account.

When you visit the Toshl website, you also have the option of upgrading to Toshl Pro.  For $19.95, Toshl can gain access to all the online extras not available within the application itself.  Users may utilize not only those characteristics available with Toshl, but also the added convenience of being able to add or edit expenses, export information via Excel, Google Docs or PDF format, monthly email notifications and numerous other features.  For those serious about tracking their expenses with a watchful eye, this may be the perfect way to get started.

Toshl

Toshl requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.

Looking for a quick and easy VAT or sales tax calculator? If so then you may be interested in VAT Pro. It is a simple and easy to use calculator that not only works for US states but also includes a decent listing of international sales tax details.

When you open the app up, it defaults to a country’s tax information but it is very easy to change that. By hitting the Countries button it will not only take you to a listing of different countries that are already built into the app but it will also show you a listing of different states within the US. In addition you can also make custom rates as well in the event that the country you are wanting to reference is not yet listed.

After choosing the country, or state, that you want to use, the app reverts back to the default calculator screen. At this point the process is simple. Bloomberg Review

Bloomberg Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: Bloomberg
Price: FREE
Version: 2.10.3

Design Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars
Features Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Integration Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.92 out of 5 stars

Reviewer’s note: looking for the iPad edition review? Click here.

In my recent review of FT Mobile, I hailed it as a “rich, succinct” application, and that “as a student of Finance, I find it invaluable.” It is one the twelve applications that I keep on my first home screen. Bloomberg is there too.

First up, news. Bloomberg splits Headlines (text) and Audio into separate categories, the former being the default choice when starting the application. Some thirty four headline categories exist, you simply choose which ones you want and re-order them like you would in the Stocks or Weather applications. The articles are churned out quickly, effective and accurately – meaning the articles on your front page are never more than a day old.

The audio section lists all of Bloomberg’s published podcasts and most radio addresses. You can download these audio sessions from within the application, meaning you’ll always have information on-the-go. However, even on Wi-Fi, our download speeds were never more than 100kb/s. Additionally, listening to Bloomberg radio live or watching TV in the application is a no go.

The Markets section house the main categories: equity indices, commodities, bonds, currencies and equity index futures. Equity Indices covers a number of indices, divided by continent (its last price and percentage on the day are also presented). You can view each index in greater detail when tapping on it, where a quick year summary graph is presented, along with prices, financial statistics (like its high in that time, price/earnings ratio and market cap) and a summary of what the index measures. Bloomberg breaks up the index into the main industry and stock movers, meaning you can see which section is pulling the market in either direction. Rotating the device sideways turns the entire iPhone into a stock screen with Bloomberg’s trademark orange colouring. View 1 day, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year and 5 year charts. Zooming is possible – something that it isn’t in the official Stocks app – but selecting two points and seeing their real or percentage change, like in Stocks, is not possible.

Commodities, bonds, currencies and equity future indexes do not have any more information when tapped on. For secondary markets this is understandable, but for commodities and publicly traded currencies it was surprising to see no charts. Bonds have no yield curve graph.

The third tab in Bloomberg’s application is dedicated to “My Stocks” – where you add your own stocks to monitor. Furthermore, you can enter in your position and price for recording, but with nowhere to see your return this feature is fairly redundant. The final tab is a stock finder – simply type in the company’s symbol (all major indices are covered, including the AIM market). Stocks can be viewed in the detail that equity indices have, along with related news.

Some fundamental features, eg. news search, are missing from the application, and its lack of detail over the desktop website is frustrating (the plethora of graphs and video that make Bloomberg such an invaluable resource to myself are nowhere to be seen in this application). It is free yet ad-supported.

The actual data side of things is much better. Charts and graphs make use of Bloomberg’s well thought out design, and charts are always the centre of attention. Rotating it to landscape view makes it even better.

ProOnGo Expense Tracks Your Spending, Simplifies Expense Reports

ProOnGo Expense Tracks Your Spending, Simplifies Expense Reports is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I’ll be honest: I’ve never had to fill out an expense report. Still, the name alone conjures up horrific promises of tedium, hassle, and frustration; who wants to manually keep track of receipts and the like?

ProOnGo’s latest app, ProOnGo Expense, aims to bring time-saving smartphone goodness to expense reports. The app’s main feature is a “receipt reader”—take pictures of your receipts, send them to ProOnGo’s servers, and they’ll convert the images into text and send that data back to your app. Instead of manually punching in numbers, you can just take pictures of the receipts. ProOnGo Expense can also calculate mileage on a trip, using the iPhone’s GPS functionality.

Once you have all your expenses documented, you can finish off your expense report. ProOnGo Expense can export in a variety of data types, including .XLXS (Excel 2007), XML, and QuickBooks Online.

Though the app is listed as free, you’ll need a subscription after using your first 10 Receipt Reads. Subscriptions range from $0.99 to $4.99 per month. For three bucks a month you get 30 Receipt Reads and unlimited Expense Reports. ProOnGo also has another app, ProOnGo Business Card Reader, which utilizes the same general process…take a photo, have the company’s servers analyze it, and then receive the text. If you have unused Receipt Reads from your subscription, you can use them with the Business Card Reader, too.

Oh, and if you’re not completely dedicated to the iPhone? ProOnGO Expense is available on Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile phones, too. Be sure to watch the video to see ProOnGo in action!
