CardMunch Brings A Human Element To Card Scanning Apps

CardMunch Brings A Human Element To Card Scanning Apps is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Business card scanning software is nothing new in the App Store. There are plenty of apps that take data from a picture of a business card, but none that get the data right every time. Sometimes shadows get in the way, or the app thinks that the name Chris looks like Cheryl, and boy is that annoying.

TechCrunch talked about how CardMunch does things a bit differently, adding a human element to the card scan. Like other card scanning apps, it still captures the card image with your iPhone’s camera, but then the picture is sent off to the CardMunch office where real humans extrapolate the data. Real humans that guarantee 100% accuracy! Once it’s done, the data is sent directly to your Address Book or to the CardMunch app itself if you don’t want to clutter your contacts.

The service does cost $0.25 per card, but if you have to scan 400 cards, CardMunch claims that you will save an average of 23 hours of data entry time. Seems worth it to me. Try the app out for free and get 5 free card scans with your “purchase”.

HoloToy Makes Glasses-less 3D Possible Using iPhone 4 Front Camera and Head Tracking

HoloToy Makes Glasses-less 3D Possible Using iPhone 4 Front Camera and Head Tracking is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

The original HoloToy was a fun little app that could simulate 3D in pictures by tracking the accelerometer movement of your phone. Tilt the phone to the right and your image looks like you are viewing it from the right side. The effect is pretty darn cool, especially when you really get into making your own pictures into holograms.

HoloToy’s newest update, version 1.07, takes the concept and adds a sprinkle of iPhone 4 awesomeness. Instead of just being able to change your viewing angle with the accelerometer, HoloToy now uses your front facing camera to change the image angle depending on where your head is looking. It almost gives you the feeling that you can peer around images to see what’s behind them.

HoloToy’s creator Ben Hopkins had this to say. “Since release it’s been great watching peoples reactions to HoloToy. As soon as I heard the iPhone 4 had a front facing camera I knew that this would be the next big HoloToy feature. Moving the device and seeing the 3D scenes move as expected is surprising, moving your head and seeing the 3D scenes move as expected is magical!”.

While Ben’s comment (“it’s been great watching peoples reactions”) may lead me to believe that he is personally watching me through my camera, his statement about the technology being magical rings true. The face tracking isn’t perfect, but if someone could perfect this we could finally see the end to those silly looking 3D glasses.

NanoStudio – Synth For Synth Geeks

NanoStudio – Synth For Synth Geeks is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I always amazes me what people can do with various music programs on the iPhone. To me, it would require some seriously heavy duty equipment to make a good synth beat, but I’m no music expert.

NanoSynth is the iPhone equivalent of the heavy duty equipment that I was talking about. Combining “sampling, synthesis, sequencing and mastering in a single application”, NanoSynth just about does it all.

“Record your ideas in real time, mix synth layers with samples, compose and arrange your tune using the powerful sequencer and bring the mix alive with real time effects such as reverb, waveshaping and delay. You can use your own samples or record them using the microphone. NanoStudio’s low latency audio engine is custom engineered for iPhone, capable of delivering an amazing 48 voice polyphony in CD quality stereo.”

Check out the promo video that they made for the app and see its awesomeness for yourself. Enjoy!

Where To? 3.0 Is Now In Leather

Where To? 3.0 Is Now In Leather is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

The 2009 Best App Ever awards winner for “Best Feel Like A Local App“, Where To?, has been updated to version 3.0.

On top of a “completely revised user interface with an all-integrated leather interior” (that looks quite nice I might add), Where To? has been optimized for the iPhone 4, complete with the full retina display treatment, multitasking support, and built in SMS, so you don’t have to leave the app for any reason.

“We love the new iPhone 4 with its brilliant new display. Where To? 3.0 looks gorgeous on the new iPhone and we hope our users will love it as much as we do”, says Ortwin Gentz, FutureTap CEO.

The updates aren’t done though, “3.0 sets the foundation for a whole bunch of new features we‘ll be implementing over the course of the next months, the pipeline is full of new stuff, we’ll certainly not rest on our laurels.”

Discover transforms the way you view Wikipedia on the iPad, for free

Discover transforms the way you view Wikipedia on the iPad, for free is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Cooliris, developers of the unique internet browser extension that allows you to view the web’s pictorial content the way Sci-Fi movies dreamed of, has taken a leap into the iPad world with Discover, an iPad-only application that transforms Wikipedia into an e-magazine. Or is that iMagazine?

The free application “leverages the power of the iPad platform to deliver an enjoyable experience for Wikipedia’s vast collection of articles” (Aaran Wessels, Cooliris), by simplifying article navigation through a new “smart search” feature and showcasing daily-updated featured articles and photos. Cooliris developers recognize that “the outstanding breadth and depth of information … [can] make it difficult for users to navigate”, and so the new simplified navigation will ensure that only directly relevant content is provided on-screen, with links to other concepts and ideas provided elsewhere. Photos will be centre-stage in an application that aims to make full efficient use of the iPad’s 9.5″ display.

“By turning Wikipedia into a ‘live magazine,’ we offer readers a virtually limitless source of quality content that is delightful to use on a daily basis” spoke Soujanya Bhumbar, co-founder and current CEO of Cooliris.

iPad owners will again continue to reap the benefits of developers’ intuitive designs in magazine format, most evident in the release of the social networking magazine Flipboard earlier this month. The application, also free, renews the way you see what’s happening on Facebook and Twitter by integrating both social tools into a three-by-three square board.

Hotly Anticipated OmniFocus for iPad Released!

Hotly Anticipated OmniFocus for iPad Released! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Ok, so maybe hotly anticipated is a little overstated for most people. But very understated for task management nerds like myself. OmniFocus for the iPad has finally made it’s way into the App Store and I couldn’t be happier! This amazingly detailed task management application has been my most anticipated iPad application since the announcement of the iPad.

OmniFocus is a powerhouse of a task manager. Providing great organization tools if you have lots of things going all the time like I seem to. The ability to quickly capture thoughts, ideas, and tasks and then organize them, track them, and now review them while on the go is invaluable.

This release of OmniFocus is a hybrid of sorts. Bringing more of the features of the desktop to the app than what we have with the iPhone version, while still focusing on what you need to help you get things done while mobile. The iPad version is focused on helping you capture information with it’s quick entry system, define that information once you have it, and then, of course, get it done.

Two big additions to the iPad version are the Forecast and Review features. Forecast lets you see, with a quick touch, exactly what you need to be doing and where you need to be today. You can also take a look ahead and see what’s coming later in the week. The Review feature is great for being able to do a quick check-in on all of your projects, figure out where they are going, and then update their status. Think of it as a quick-fire rapid card deck of your projects with you tapping yes or no on each one as they flip into view.

One of the things that sets OmniFocus apart from it’s competitors is the rock-solid syncing. Now with the addition of the iPad version you have three-way sync from your desktop, to your mobile phone, and to your iPad. You can keep all three in sync all the time, even when traveling.

OmniFocus for the iPad is available now, in the App Store, for $39.99. Some will consider this expensive, I consider it a huge value for all of the time it saves me.

To take a look at a quick into movie for OmniFocus for the iPad, take a look on the OmniGroup server or hit the jump for more screenshots from the app.

theScore iPad Edition Is In The App Store

theScore iPad Edition Is In The App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Being a US based website, many of you probably have no idea what The Score is. The Score Television Network is a fairly large sports network that goes out to “6.8 million homes across Canada”, covering all sports from US Football to Association Football (soccer). While obviously lagging behind the readership/viewership of the likes of SI and ESPN, The Score is trying to pick up the pace by really hitting the mobile app audience.

With an iPhone app already doing quite well in the sports category, the iPad edition is looking to take the content a step further by adding original video content, video content from the network, and a slick new interface to pull it all together.

“theScore iPad Edition takes advantage of all the great features the iPad has to offer and leverages its native performance and flexible web views,” says Jeff Brenner, Co-Founder, NuLayer. “It’s an awesome app that provides a socially-integrated way to explore the sports world. Fans are going to love it.”

The best part about the app is that it’s free to all users, so pick it up and soak in the glory.

New Moron Test Update – “Food Fight” is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

The Moron Test has been an astounding success in the App Store since its launch. It has been in the top 100 for over 450 days, and is trying to continue that trend with great new updates.

The latest update is called “Food Fight” and according to Berkeley Malagon, President and CEO of DistinctDev, it is “by far the hardest section we’ve ever created.”

Food Fight offers 45 new questions with more than 100 steps, while also introducing new characters and question types into the series. It doesn’t stop there though. “Our biggest requests from fans are for new sections, leaderboards and randomized tests. We’ve added them all!” says Mike Monaco, Co-Founder and COO of DistinctDev. The iPhone version now includes all new global leaderboards, achievements, and an “Extra Credit” series of mini-games that generate random questions to test speed, memory, and reflex.

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, But If You Try Sometime, You Might Just Get An App

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, But If You Try Sometime, You Might Just Get An App is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Exanded Apps have just released “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, an “interactive book and audiobook app recounting the memoirs of The Rolling Stone’s and The Grateful Dead’s manager, Sam Cutler.” It includes Cutler’s time with the Stones and the Grateful Dead in the late 60’s and early 70’s, and covers “the infamous concert at Altamont Speedway, where a young man named Meredith Hunter was stabbed to death by a Hells Angel in front of the stage.”

The app includes the complete book and audiobook, three 40 minute interviews with the author, and a 20 page photo gallery with “never before published photos of the Stones and the Dead”.

The Rolling Stone said of the book, “”[Cutler's] memoir of his time with first the Stones and then the Grateful Dad brings to life hippie-era delights (lots of acid) and an encroaching darkness . . . he unleashes one killer road tale after another.”

Be sure to pick “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” up if you are a Stones or a Dead fan. And if you can wait til August, it’ll be on sale for $5.99 to celebrate Jerry Garcia’s birthday.
