Square Enix Debuts Chaos Rings for iPad, Announces App Store Catalog Sale

Square Enix Debuts Chaos Rings for iPad, Announces App Store Catalog Sale is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Square Enix has released an iPad version of its iOS-exclusive role-playing game Chaos Rings, and has dropped the price of every other game in its App Store catalog to mark the occasion.

Chaos Rings for iPad ($15.99) supports the device’s 1024×768 HD resolution, and features richer graphics and more detailed textures than the previous release for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

FingerGaming’s Tucker Dean gave the iPhone version of Chaos Rings 4.5 out of 5 stars in his review, describing it as an experience that “delivers the classic gameplay of your favorite JRPGs in pocket form, and makes very few sacrifices in the process.”

To promote Chaos Rings’ iPad debut, Square Enix is holding a catalog-wide sale, making many of its most popular apps — including Song Summoner and Final Fantasy — a few dollars cheaper. During the two-week sale, the publisher’s accelerometer-controlled action title Sliding Heroes will be available as a free download.

Score Studios Debuts Piczle Lines for iPhone

Score Studios Debuts Piczle Lines for iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

I missed this one when it launched last month, but it’s still very much worth checking out. Flock It! developer Score Studios has released Piczle Lines, a free picture-revealing iPhone puzzler.

In Piczle Lines, a bumbling professor has accidentally deleted all of his digital photos. Oh no! Players must reconstruct each photo by connecting numbered lines within each puzzle.

Connected lines cannot be crossed by other lines, however, so players must choose their paths carefully in order to reveal the full picture.

Piczle Lines is available as a free download that includes 40 levels, with an additional 200 puzzles available as paid and free downloadable content.

Free Promotional Apps Released for Upcoming TRON, Scott Pilgrim Films

Free Promotional Apps Released for Upcoming TRON, Scott Pilgrim Films is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

If you’re feverishly awaiting the upcoming theatrical release of the TRON sequel TRON: Legacy, Disney has released an iPhone app that might make the wait a little more tolerable.

The TRON core app (free) includes “Tanks Arcade,” a twin-stick action title that puts players in control of one of the film’s iconic tanks. Tanks Arcade features a series of single-player levels, along with an online multiplayer mode.

Disney will update the TRON application with additional games and content leading up to TRON: Legacy’s December release. Future TRON minigames will be available as in-app purchases.

For anyone curious, an App Store comment notes that TRON’s binary-coded app description reads “This TRON app will evolve. ComiTRON coming 072210.” Disney will reveal more about its plans for the TRON series at the upcoming ComiTRON event at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con on July 22nd.

Much less impressive is Pilgrim’s Punch-Out (free), an iPhone and iPad game promoting the upcoming film adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.

While the Scott Pilgrim series takes much of its inspiration from the NES classic River City Ransom, Pilgrim’s Punch-Out is based largely on Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! games. Players use simple taps and tilts to battle Ramona Flowers’ seven evil exes in a bid for her affection.

The game itself is not at all worth playing, but the app also contains a number of sound clips, movie stills, and two trailers for the Scott Pilgrim movie.

Free Resident Evil: Afterlife Now Available for iPhone and iPad

Free Resident Evil: Afterlife Now Available for iPhone and iPad is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

In a surprise development, a new Resident Evil game has been released exclusively for iOS devices. Wha…huh?!

Sorry, didn’t mean to get your hopes up. Resident Evil: Afterlife Movie Game is a free promotional title published by Sony Pictures to promote the upcoming Paul W.S. Anderson film Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D. The game is available as a universal app, optimized for both the iPhone and iPad.

Afterlife Movie Game ditches the franchise’s survival horror roots, instead offering up a fixed-position first-person shooter. As Milla Jovovich’s character Alice, players will battle the evil Umbrella Corporation on the way to a showdown with unkillable series antagonist Albert Wesker.

Oh, and there’s lots and lots of zombies. But you probably already knew that.

Be warned that Capcom had no involvement with this game’s creation, so it likely won’t live up to anyone’s expectations. At least it’s free, I guess!
