Been wanting to get a new iPhone? Well, the BBC have reviewed a startlingly easy way to get one for free. Mind you, we mean BBC(UK), so this method will mainly be of interest to our UK friends (unless you are going there?or have friends there? etc).
All you have to do to get a free iPhone is to register at freebiejeebie, pick the iPhone you want and then complete an offer. Now these offers are also free – and genuine. For example, one offer is for a free monthly trial at LoveFilm (online video and game rentals). Before we go any further – check out what the BBC has to say:
So, depending on what iPhone (or for that matter, iPod Touch) you want, you also have to get referrals. For an iPod Touch 8GB – its 8 referrals. This means you have to get 8 friends and family to also sign up for a free trial. For the 3G (S) 32GB iPhone it is – as you would expect – somewhat more challenging. You must get 27 referrals.
We have seen a lot of scammy offers over the last couple of years – but this one looks legit to us as well. And 7 referrals for an iPod Touch seems very doable! The 27 needed for a hot new iPhone, might be more of a challenge for some – but still, we think reasonable.

Its so much easier to just opine over a beer or wine!
Still we can’t fault the gov for its efforts to deliver the opportunity to get down and dirty in governing and politics. They have been rolling out have-your-say, and this-is-what-we-are-doing and get-involved, sites and widgets, and applications all over the place!
Some have been around for a while – like the FBI “Most Wanted” iPhone App. Others as we covered in our last post, were just released this month.

And, of course, there are the White House offerings – The White House News App (with up-to-date news from the Obama administration direct to our iPhones) and President Obama’s Podcasts (296 episodes with the latest one released yesterday titled “Health Insurance Reform Right Now“)

OK – so now you know we are posting about NASA. Because NASA has launched (yeah, lousy pun – but ya gotta do what ya gotta do) three free apps already in 2010 that are worth getting. PLUS they have also launched NASACast Video through iTunes which provide free video podcasts from NASA including a weekly update TV show which we can download and watch on our iPhone – the latest one from just two days ago is shown below:
Now you may have noticed that all the videos shown in the post are from YouTube. Well, NASA has four YouTube channels as well. So you can see these videos there – but there is a bit of work finding videos on any particular subject. For once, its easier to use iTunes! Either by downloading the NASA Video Podcasts:

1) The first Official NASA App (with 10,000 ratings at 3.5 star since Dec 2010, so its been popular) provides incredible footage of shots of the planet from space.
2) The Second app (first released at the end of Jan 2010) provides stunning images of stars and planets.
3) And the third app (released only a few days ago) is a FREE GAME – the NASA Lunar Electric Rover (LER) Simulator. Now we can pretend that WE are astronauts! because this game gives a a glimpse of life on an outpost on the moon.

1) Cool iPhone speed test Speedtest.net A quick and easy way to check the speed of the internet connection you have on your iPhone. Quite handy – and free.
2) Project Noah We just love any software that requires world-wide co-operation to bring about some transformational result built on small individual efforts that, combined, makes a massive difference. So we had to include this software. The project is in the beginning phases, but has already spread across the globe. It is simple but powerful. Check it out!
The free Project Noah App allows people from around the globe to input locally taken pics (using the iPhone camera) of local wildlife. The idea behind the software is this:

There are several methods for getting free audio books onto our iPhones. We previously showed our readers how to get some of the hottest, recently released books as free audiobooks for their iPhones from libraries.
In this post we are introducing another way to get free audio books for your iPhone. Because – if you know how to look – you can get free audio books and/or other free audio downloads) from Audible!
Now, you do have to register (its free, and you don’t have to give any personal info) to get the free downloads. But, if you do not have a Mac, you will also have to download some software that then lets you download the free ebooks to iTunes.
But then, you just add the free audible title to your cart and then download. It is auto added to iTunes for syncing to your iPhone. So its a very simple process. Here are some of the free titles currently to be found (if you know how to look):

Want to watch FREE live TV wherever you are – on 3G or wifi? Of course you do! How about 50 channels including music and sport (yes, right now that means live Olympics coverage!).
Well, if you live in the UK – that is exactly what is on offer with this fantastic great service called TVCatchup – a service which lets you watch 50 UK television channels online and on our iPhones for free.
Unfortunately the service is not yet available anywhere else.
For UK readers, all you have to do to get this service is go to http://iphone.tvcatchup.com via your web browser and follow the directions.
For the rest of us – if you have access to a good proxy service you might at least be able to watch free UK TV on your PC – as the service can also be accessed from PCs.

Electronic Arts is a game developer that has released over 40 games for the iPhone with great success. They were in at the launch of the iPhone with Spore:
(Spore original – now free – has been rated by a massive 130,000+ users at 3.5 stars)
And they have done so well that Apple invited them back to be one of three game developers to do a presentation at the recent iPad release as well! (And, of course, they used Need For Speed – one of their most downloaded games – to show us just how good games will be on the new platform)
And they are a generous company – at least where potential iPhone and other mobile users are concerned. Of the 38 EA iPhone games that have a price tag there are also free (basically demo) versions of eight of those games as well. Not enough, you reckon?
Well, we have some good news for you. The iphonegizmo team have discovered a free demo game player where we can try out the demo version of another 12 of the EA iPhone games, including: Need For Speed™ Undercover, American Idol: The Game, Clue, Madden NFL 10, Scrabble, The Sims 3, Star Trek, Tetris, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR, Wolfenstein RPG, and Yahtzee. As you can see in the following image, the screen for the demo is smaller than the iPhone screen – and the accelerometer feature is not available.
But, as many of the games in this list are in the top price bracket for EA games – we figure its definitely worth it to trial the game first. So we are pretty pleased with ourselves for finding a way to help you all to do that.
