BoxBattle Lite Requires Much Patience and Skill is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: Free   Score: 6/10   By A. PapachristosBoxBattle

For over 40 years, the Quarks and Tulans have been at war and you have just been recruited as a gunner whose mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use the Quark’s cannons to destroy the Tulan barricades and save the devastated planet.

The premise of BoxBattle Lite by MaxNick puts users in the middle of this fictitious war, requiring them to utilize the Quarks’ artillery to destroy as many green boxes as possible, while avoiding red boxes and conserving ammunition at the same time.  Users must develop their own strategies for demolishing the barricades, completing the specific level’s goal, all while using the least amount of ammunition possible, for running out will cause you to have to repeat the process because cannonballs are limited and will cost you points in the long run.

Upon startup, users are asked if they would like to enable OpenFeint, an Internet leaderboard that allows you to compare your scores to the scores of other players from all over the world.  You will also be able to track your own personal statistics within BoxBattle Lite in order to review your progress at any time.  After this, users will then have free reign of this application’s Lite version, which provides 12 free levels to give users a taste of what BoxBattle has to offer.  (Those who love what they say can simply upgrade to the paid version within the application, providing over 120 new levels of game play.)

In general, BoxBattle Lite offers a great sampling of what the full, paid version promises.  As you proceed, you can unlock achievements, receive medals and weapons upgrades, accumulating points along the way that not only help you advance levels, but also help you on your journey toward the ultimate rank – First Cannoneer of the Quark Empire.

Though the concept is simple, BoxBattle Lite provides not only a comprehensive ‘Help’ section, but users will also find a guide right within the ‘Help’ portion that provides a visual aid as to how users should maneuver their weapons, what each icon means and the different types of ammunition available.

However, when it comes to playing games on a small device, such as the iPhone or iPod Touch, the tiny screen does not lend itself well to precision and patience.  With BoxBattle Lite, users must develop a careful technique, combining aim and force on a playing field that is extremely sensitive to the touch.  To move the cannon up and down on its track, users should use two fingers to drag the weapon.  Then, to shoot, users use one finger to aim at the boxes, pulling back further and further to increase the force of the cannonball.  But, as one pulls back, the cannon’s touch sensitivity causes the aim to shift, leaving your cannonball falling in the wrong direction, completely missing your target.  This leads to wasted ammunition, making even Level One a tricky task for the impatient or unskilled.

With such a small screen, even users with the smallest fingers will find this sensitivity and need for precision a challenge all on its own.  And, assuming that Level One is supposed to represent the easiest level difficulty of them all, perhaps users should be greeted with a slightly less daunting test in order to draw them in quicker, because anyone who becomes discouraged after the first level will surely never make it through the 12 free levels, longing for the paid version and more game play.

Paradise Quest HD Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: I-PLAY
Price: $2.99
Version Reviewed: 1.0.0
Device Reviewed On: iPad

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.88 out of 5 stars

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to review match three games, as they have become so plentiful on iPhones and iPads. Still, Paradise Quest HD manages to maintain some originality in the face of so much sameness, and that has to count for quite a lot. It’s a good game for adults, but there are many features that make this an even better game for kids.

I’ve never imagined that match three games could be even in the least bit educational, but Paradise Quest has some educational elements that add to the atmosphere of the game without, fortunately, standing in the way of the play mechanics. The premise of Paradise Quest HD is that you are an explorer/scientist (the two get a bit confused along the way) attempting to revitalize a failing rainforest ecosystem. Matching three in this case allows you to gather precious resources (water, food sources, trees, etc) that you can then use/spend to rebuild the suffering landscape. I give the developers points for making the game eco-friendly; as the ecosystem is improved players are notified of life forms that have returned to the rainforest. These are then catalogued in a scrapbook along with achievements you’ve unlocked, leaderboards and other relevant discoveries. The animal pictures are nice, but it would have been a good idea to provide some information about the animal as well. If you’re going to have an educational element in a game, you might as well go all the way with it.

The designers also include a few variations on the classic match three formula. The main one is that you cannot see the entire board at one time. Each time you make a match, the board shifts subtly in the direction of that match. This, along with attempting to gather specific resources on the board, causes shifts in strategy in terms of which items to match. It’s not a major innovation, but it’s a welcome change.

Visually, the game is extremely colorful and is really delightful to view. Sound is equally impressive, with tribal beats underscoring most of the game’s action. The only significant downsides in the game are the loading times and the match three controls. It seems as though every change in the game is accompanied by a lengthy (by iPad standards at least) loading screen. Once or twice is fine, I suppose, but after several of these they really grow tiresome. Shifting items to make matches also doesn’t feel as elegant as the rest of the game. It works, so from a utilitarian perspective it’s not a huge issue, but moving pieces on the board does not have the usual snap and polish that I usually associate with this sort of game. There’s a slight lag when moving pieces that serves to disconnect the player from the game, and it’s an issue worth addressing in future updates.

Taken as a whole, Paradise Quest HD is a clever, lengthy game, certainly worth $2.99, that seems best suited to children. Even adults will enjoy saving the rainforest, though.

This app is nice is a few ways. One is that you can scan the Table of Contents and go to exactly what you want to read about. The other is that when you finishing reading that section, and decide to read more, all you do is scroll down and continue. You don’t have to go back to the Menu and click on the next section. Mummy Panic: A Thoughtful Strategy Game is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $2.99   Score: 9/10   By M. SchustermanMummy

There are fast, mindless games aplenty for the iPhone, so much so that when I finally do get a new game that requires a little more thought, takes a little more time, I get frustrated. Sad, really, as when it comes to other non-iPhone games I like one that makes me use my brain a bit.

So my first few minutes with Mummy Panic, designed by Christopher Sisk, I tapped my foot impatiently when the actual concept didn’t make itself immediately clear. An hour an a half later, I hadn’t moved. This was after three cups of coffee, too, so my refusal to get up and abandon the game is a significant testimony to its addictiveness.

I recommend watching the short video tutorial in the app before playing, as you might find yourself staring dumbly at the screen once game play starts otherwise. This is a maze game; you have several mummies, anywhere from three to dozens, scattered on different parts of the screen and facing different directions. In the top right corner, you’re given one or more arrows pointing in a specific direction. Tap any spot on the grid to place the arrow and control the direction the mummies move.

The mummies automatically begin moving whichever direction they’re facing, and when they hit a wall or an obstacle they turn right. Your goal in Mummy Panic is to get the mummies into a crate; not the easiest of tasks when you’ve got one measly down arrow to work with. Impatient gamers be warned; much of this game requires staring at the screen, plotting, then you get one tap before you sit back and see if the mummies all make it in.

The waiting was annoying until I realized that tilting the iPhone away from me sped up their speed – a thoughtful feature I loved. The graphics are quite good, and don’t let the first two levels fool you…it gets complicated, and there’s over fifty of them. Things get more interesting when explorers come into play – they move like the mummies and respond to your arrows, and running into one will do your mummies in.

My only small complaint with Mummy Panic is that sometimes, with new graphics and objects on each level, it’s difficult to guess what the mummies with pass through, what will make them change direction, and what will kill them (or whatever the version of “kill” is for a mummy). Other than that, I enjoyed this game and plan on getting back to it as soon as I finish this review. That last level was really getting to me.

Version – 1.0

Review – “Score the winning goal and be a Soccer Hero!”

Soccer Hero 2010 1 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App ReviewIf you like software you may already be familiar with the Facebook app Soccer Hero. Soccer Hero 2010 brings a port of this popular game to your iOS compatible device! In case you’re not familiar with it, the basic idea is that you get to take all of the closeSoccer Hero 2010 2 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Review shots and penalty shots in a game to try and win it.

The menu is pretty straightforward. There are a couple of buttons in the lower left corner that will allow you to set some Soccer Hero 2010 3 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewbasic options and learn how to play the game. If you touch the “Help” button you’ll find that there are three different types of shots that you can take in Soccer Hero. These shot types are Volleys, Turn & Shoot, and Penalties.

When you’re ready to get started just head back to the main menu and touch the “Play” button. You’ll be presented with 4 different game types. If this is your first time playing you’ll want to begin with the “Training” option. Training will allow you to practice each of the 3 different shots individually.

Once you get comfortable with all three different types of shots it’s time to start competing! Quick match will allow you to play one match at a time. Matches consist of a combination of randomly different shots strung together. The object is to try to get as many pointsSoccer Hero 2010 4 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewas possible. You will gain points for each goal you score, every shot you take that is aimed at the goal, and even a few points when you miss closely.

The next game mode is the “Tournament.” Tournament mode will take you through the process of competing in the World Cup! You’ll start out in a pool of four teams. In order to advance you have to score 20,000 points in just three games. As you advance further in the tournament you’ll have to earn a specific amount of points each round to go to the next round!

The final gameplay option is the Golden Boot. This mode is a place where you can compete with all of Soccer Hero 2010 5 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewyour Facebook friends. Once you log in to your Facebook account and select Golden Boot you’ll be taken to a high score list. This list will show the high scores of all your friends for the current week. To compete just touch the “PLAY” button in the lower right corner of the screen.

Some of my favorite things about this app are the very simple interface, and the social integration. With that said, it would definitely be nice to have some kind of local high score list as well. For just $0.99 though this game is definitely a lot of fun. Especially if you’re a fan of soccer this is an app you may not want to pass up. So what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and check it out for yourself today!

AirAttack – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Post image for AirAttack – iPhone App Review

AirAttack icon AirAttack iPhone App Review

AirAttack ($0.99)

Version – 1.0

Review – “A new face on a classic war game type!”

AirAttack 1 200x300 AirAttack iPhone App ReviewIt’s been a little while since I’d played a war game like this one. AirAttack is a shoot ‘em up game where you control a jet that is attacking the enemy! It has a top-down feel much like the oldAirAttack 2 200x300 AirAttack iPhone App Review“1942″ game that was popular a long time ago.

One of the things that I really noticed about this game is it’s polished look and feel. Everything from the game menus, to the options and gameplay seemed to be well thought and easy to use. The main menu offers several options, including a local high score list, a settings screen and a help screen.

To start a new game just touch the “new game” button toward the top. You’ll then be asked to select your difficulty and level to start from. When you get everything set just touch the “start” button in the lower right corner of the screen. The game will take a few seconds to load and then it will prompt you to touch the screen to get started.

There are several different control schemes to choose from in this game. You can use everything from just dragging your finger around to tilting your device and even using a “joypad.” These can be set not onlyAirAttack 3 200x300 AirAttack iPhone App Review from the main menu but also from within a game by pausing and going to settings. You can also adjust music and sound effects volume independently from here if you want.

AirAttack has some very nice 3D graphics built in, but most importantly it offers enough variety to keep AirAttack 4 200x300 AirAttack iPhone App Reviewfrom becoming too repetitive. Each time you reach a checkpoint you’re taken to a screen where you can purchase new weapons and options for your plane as you move!

Some of the weapons in this game will feel very familiar when compared to other shoot ‘em up games. With that said there are quite a few unique feeling weapons. These include things like adding wingmen that help you shoot, and even things like radar missiles and more powerful bombs!

This is a great app for someone that likes action, but needs to be able to exit a game and get back to doing other things quickly! If you’re still not convinced about this game though you should head to the App Store right now and check out the 2 levels that the free version has to offer. You won’t be disappointed!

Dungeon Hunter Updated And On Sale For $0.99 is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

moz screenshot 1 Dungeon Hunter Updated And On Sale For $0.99Another one of Gamelofts best-selling titles to recently go on sale for just $0.99, if you’ve never played Dungeon Hunter before there’s never been a better time to check it out.

A true action-RPG, Dungeon Hunter is set in a highly detailed medieval fantasy world called Gothicus. Once you’ve created your own character, of which there are three classes to choose from (Rogue, Knight or Mage) you can begin to explore the land and take on new missions.

Throughout Dungeon Hunter, you gain experience points by completing quests and earning achievements and can use these to bolster your skills in true RPG fashion. Items are mostly found as drops on monsters throughout the game, but can be bought from merchants and include a variety of weapons and armor that change the way your character looks.

The action is all real-time, not turn-based, and you can hack’n slash or cast your way to victory, depending on your chosen class.

While Dungeon Hunter isn’t a perfect game, it’s definitely one of the most comprehensive and best-looking RPG’s out on the iPhone at the moment.
