Putt Simulator

Never make a bad read in your putting again !!

This application will quickly measure the slopes on the green and determine the required putting speed and direction.

Enter the distance and the green speed of the day, and the application will simulate the putt for you.

It’s like getting a free practice putt stroke!

It uses the iPhone/ iPod Touch accelerometer to determine the slope of the green at two points: at the ball, and at the hole.
With some nifty calculations, it will then determine the trajectory of the putt and required initial speed to get it into the cup.

Try it out.

vScorecard

Have you ever wanted to know how long your drive was? Have you ever wanted to know the number of strokes you are above par during a round?

vScorecard will help you on the golf course by providing a tool for quickly keeping score and estimating critical distances on the course without interrupting the flow of your game. Eliminate the need for paper and pencil scorekeeping. There are no additional fees or registration required to use this app.

Easily create a custom golf round/scorecard for up to 4 players by specifying the tee color each player will be playing from and the holes you will be playing (ie Front Nine then Back Nine, or Back Nine only, etc) on a particular course.

Just rotate your iPhone to see the scorecard that includes a running over/even/under par score for each player. At any point in the round you can see where you stand at a quick glance. Scorecard entries are color coded so that your pars, birdies, etc stand out.

GPS feature allows you to estimate the distance to reach the green, helping you with club selection and lets you see how long your drive was. You have a birds-eye view of the hole you’re playing to see and estimate distances to hidden hazards.

GPS is easy to use. On a given hole, just drag tee marker to the tee area, and drag the flag marker to the green. Now any time you select the map while on that hole, the distance from your current position to the green is displayed. Tap the swap button and the distance from your current position to the tee is displayed. Tee and flag marker positions are automatically saved for next time course is played.

When you finish a round you can set it to “lock” to prevent changes from accidentally being made. This also automatically adds data to the players’ stats summary page.

Easily create courses and add data for additional tee colors at any time by editing course. Data can be stored for courses with 9, 18, or 27 holes. Courses and tee data can be uploaded or downloaded to the shared database at no cost.

Email the scorecard to your golfing group so that everyone has a record of the round.

Features Summary:

-Keep score and store rounds for up to 4 players per round (specify tee block colour for each player and number of holes)
-GPS map for estimating critical distances and for seeing birds-eye view of the hole
-Rotate iPhone to view scorecard anytime during score keeping
-Scorecard shows running score tally (over/even/under par) for each player
-Player stats summary pages are automatically updated when round is set to “locked”
-Create and upload/download courses from the shared database at no cost
-Scorecard entries are color coded (eg Pars are in green)
-Save scorecard image to camera roll
-Email scorecard

iPhone App Review – Let’s Golf!

iPhone App Review - Let's Golf icon

Let’s Golf! ($1.99)

Version – 1.1.0

REVIEW – “Arcade golf at a price anyone can afford!”

I don’t know what it is about golf games, but they have always been a mainstay in the world of video games.  If you are one of iPhone App Review - Let's Golf 1those people that has always enjoyed them, you will not be disappointed in this offering from Gameloft!  This particular game does not offer big names, or a PGA affiliation, but what it does offer is excellent gameplay, and lots of replay value!

When you first open this game you will be taken to the main menu screen which has five different options.  You can do “Instant Play” where it will select a few holes to play at random, do “multiplayer” either wirelessly with another device or on the same device.  You can also play in a “Tournament” and earn new iPhone App Review - Let's Golf 2courses and items in that mode, or just select a course that you would like to play in “Free Hole” mode.  The last button is the “Options” button.  Here you can set things like “language,” control schemes and even view a tutorial.

The game offers four different courses, and a variety of ways to play through them.  You can play just the Front 9, the Back 9, all 18 or even 9 random holes.  The different courses offer quite a bit of variety, and the “Random” holes feature is a lot of fun.  It also forces you to be good at all of the holes if you want to compete at the higher levels.

iPhone App Review - Let's Golf 3
you  progress through the tournament mode you will start out only being able to play the courses on the “Easy” difficulty” setting, and you will unlock the different difficulties as you win tournaments.  This part of the game offers hours and hours of replay value, and was my favorite part of the game.

When you start a round of golf, you will be flown over your first hole to get an idea of what it looks like.  When you are ready you just touch the screen.  There are two methods of control in this game.  I prefer the “Classic” control method but there is also an “Advanced” Mode.  You aim your shot the same way in both of them by touching the spot that you want your aim to move towards.  You can also view where the shot will land by iPhone App Review - Let's Golf 4touching the course diagram on the right side of the screen.  In “Classic” mode you are given a meter where you touch at the right time for power and then for aim.  In “Advanced” mode you actually drag your finger within an arrow on the screen to control the power and accuracy of your shot.

The graphics and physics in this game are fairly impressive, although it would be nice if some of your shots rolled more, like your drives.  If you want to change your clubs all you have to do is touch the club icon in the bottom left corner and drag it up or down to your desired club.  Your club will also change automatically if you aim in an area that is not ideal for the club that you were holding.

iPhone App Review - Let's Golf 5
Putting is fairly simple.  You get a wire diagram of the green with little dots that move in the direction that the green is sloping.  It only took me a few tries to get the hang of how the putting works.  You are given a “target” on your putting meter to aim for, but it assumes that the ground is level.  What this means is that you need to give it a little extra if your put is uphill, or take a little bit off of it if your put is downhill.

All in all, this game is an extremely good value for $1.99.  I can name a whole list of games that cost more than this one that I played a few times and then never opened back up again.  If you are a golf lover, or even if you have just always liked golf games this is an app that you should not pass up.  If you are still skeptical, there is a free version you can download and try as well.  It is only limited by a time trial so you will be able to get a general feel for the game.  So what are you waiting for?   Go download your copy today!

IMG_0051I’ll admit that, when I first heard of “Invisible Links,” I was skeptical. But this game—part maze, part memory, part oodles of skill—is incredibly well-executed and unusually inventive. While it’s devilishly difficult, Invisible Links is definitely worth a try.

The premise goes like this: you’re a newcomer in a class where the kids spend their time playing games. The trick is, these games are mini-golf courses drawn on crumpled notebook paper…and once you start playing, the drawings disappear! We can’t have the teacher knowing what you’re up to, after all. Each student has his own art style and course designs, but you have to earn a “GPA” of 3.0 or higher on the preceding student’s course before the next one will consider you cool enough to talk to.

So, the way the game works: you’re presented with the drawing of the course, which you can move, zoom, and rotate to your heart’s desire. Each course has both a hole and a golf ball, but beyond that there are all sorts of wacky illustrations cluttering the field. You can take as many practice “swings” as you like, but by tapping the golf ball and holding for three seconds, you take a real swing.

Here’s where things get interesting. When you “swing,” you’re basically touching the ball and then drawing a line to where you want to go. But if that line hits a black line from the illustration, it’s like hitting a wall. The problem, of course, is that the illustration disappears when you start each swing! You often have to depend on creases in the paper or sheer memory in order to make it through.

This unique game mechanic is, unsurprisingly, both fun and maddening. It’s pretty entertaining, sure, especially since the artwork is so great. But Invisible Links is hard, especially if you’re as inept as I am. Each course has a given par, just like a normal golf course; you’re rewarded a letter grade based on your performance. Let’s just say that my GPA definitely wasn’t a 4.0. Irritatingly, you can’t unlock the next set of courses until you earn an overall 3.0. Oh, bugger. I suppose it’s for the best. It’s just frustrating to see all of the nifty things that are waiting to be unlocked—like the Halloween courses, for example. I’ll likely get to them by next Halloween at this rate!

IMG_0053As Invisible Links is based on classroom doodles, it shouldn’t be surprising that the graphics are top-notch. The artistic styles are varied but still remain coherent, and there’s a lot of attention to detail that is rarely matched in other iPhone games.

While Invisible Links is challenging, it’s still incredibly whimsical and fun. The premise should bring a smile to your face, especially once you see the characters, and the execution of the concept is nearly flawless. If you’re willing to stick with it, Invisible Links is a unique, rewarding golf game that should be more than worth your time.
