I have to admit, this app hit my sweet spot by opening with a Stevie Wonder poster and “Boogie On, Reggae Woman.”

Not that it was a coincidence – after browsing the app, I realized it draws from your music library in choosing posters to show you. Because that’s the idea behind the aptly named Rock Show Concert Posters, by Neutrinos, LLC; you can view and purchase the professional posters made for your favorite bands.

The design is perfect. At the top, choose whether you’d like to search by band or designer. At the bottom, you’ll say the name of the band, the designer, and the edition, along with the option to email and share the poster. The price and option to purchase is at the top right. You can even go into Settings and change the background on which the poster appears.

Tap the Search icon to search (be sure you have it on Bands if that’s how you want to search, or go by Designers). The app will first generate a list of bands in your library who have posters, followed by the rest in alphabetical order. Start typing in the name of a band or designer in the field, and the app will narrow it down to the closest matches they have.

I love free apps that don’t skimp on quality. The design and layout of Rock Show Concert Posters is great – tapping on the poster even gives you a full screen view, which you can rotate. When you’re looking at a poster for a band in your music library, the app pulls one of their songs, which you can listen to by tapping “play” at the bottom. If you’re shopping for rock show posters, or just want to check out the images on your iPhone, this a great one to download.

Love word games? Looking for something quick and fun? If so be sure to read about this app!

Developed by Mobeso the concept behind this app is simple .. letters are scrolling across the screen and your goal is to make words as letters appear on the screen. Let’s look ..

mobile words iphone app review 4 Mobile Words iPhone App Review

There are three rows of letters, and the rows alternate directions in which they travel off the screen. As you scan through the letters, when you find a word simply click on the series of letters that form the word and then tap on the checkmark icon. After that the letters will clear from the bottom and then you can start forming the next word. The goal is to see how many words that you can make within a 60 second time period.

One you are done it will show you some stats, such as your score, the rate at which you formed words, and so on. This gives you motivation in order to try and keep beating your previous scores.

Simple enough?

While the concept is simple, it is actually a pretty fun game to play. Plus you only play round in 60 seconds so this is really good when you don’t have a lot of time to spare. If you’re interested in this game, it’s currently selling in the App Store for $0.99 so head over there and pick up your copy today!

Looking for a DJ type music app? If so then you may be interested to read about Sys-Cake – Shut Da Mouth. This app comes pre loaded with some bass tracks and gives you the ability to mix in your own touches to make it your own.

This app was developed by MindPol and comes with 5 different tracks that you can build onto. There are many different modes within this app so let’s take a look ..

Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iphone app review 2 Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iPhone App Review

The first row of icons are more informational icons, giving you information and background on the developers. The second row starts getting into more of the DJ abilities. Since the app doesn’t have a help menu or tutorial associated with it I’ll have to interpret the way some of these icons act for me.

The DJ Play icon appears to be where you pick a song and then it just plays a pre-mixed song made by the developers. When you go into Game Play, you will pick a song to start with and then you will start adding in different mixes as you choose to. Ghost is where you would save a song, if during the Game Play you end up with something that you really liked.

Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iphone app review 4 Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iPhone App Review

The banner icon appears to be a flashlight type that scrolls Shut Da Mouth across it. Twitter send you to their twitter profile. Finally the Mingame icon takes you into a minigame (obviously) where the goal is to match up icons that have three of the same one on the screen.

Ok .. my favorite part of this app was the minigame although there is no way of returning to the Main Menu without closing the app and reopening it.

The only other part of this app, to me, was the Game Play icon. Without directions I had no idea what to do at first, or even how to exit out of it. Once I started it up I had no idea what half the icons along the bottom were for, so I definitely think that this app needs a nice tutorial in it for the different section. In the middle of the Game Play screen (as you can see from below) there are a bunch of buttons for different sound effects, which you can turn on and off while a song is playing. Another note if that without digging in to the app a bit I would have had no idea how to save a song to the “Ghost” section.

Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iphone app review 3 Sys Cake Shut Da Mouth iPhone App Review

Anyway, the app seems interesting although I think that it needs a bit more content to warrant the current price it is asking in the app store. Right now it only includes 5 songs so you could use this to play around with but you couldn’t use it extensively. Also, once you create songs and load them into your Ghost slots you can’t really do anything with them except replay them. I would think it would be a great addition to make these songs exportable to an mp3 format (if Apple would allow such a thing) so they could be used in a real DJ setting. Right now it seems like a DJ toy that is limited and not transferable to anything someone could use in real life (unless you can DJ a party with your iPhone).

While I think it needs more content and possibly a lower price, if you are interested in this application you can head over to the App Store and pick up your copy today.

Mail a Postcard – A Real One! – From Your iPhone

Mail a Postcard – A Real One! – From Your iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: FREE   Score: 9/10   By Michelle SchustermanMail

If you think snail mail and collecting postcards are things of the past, think again – because of course, there’s an app for that. And instead of choosing someone else’s photography and mailing it off, now you can create a real postcard with your own photos.

Mail a Postcard, an app by Centro Consulting, allows you to make a quick postcard that they will in turn print and mail to the recipient of your choice. Because they stamp and mail the postcard for you, a fee of $2.99 is charged to your PayPal account each time you send one.

When you open the app, you’ll set up a profile with your address, so be sure to use the address you want as the return address on the postcard, along with your full name. Tap “Create” at the bottom and either take a photo from your camera, or choose one from your photo library. Once the photo is taken, you can crop (if you take the picture horizontally you can only crop side to side, and if you take it vertically you can only crop up and down). You can also zoom in or out a little bit to adjust.

The next step is to enter a message that will appear on the back of the postcard. One thing that would be nice to see is the ability to put a title, like maybe the location of the shot, on the actual picture, just to personalize it a bit more.

Next, you can either enter the recipient’s address in the form, or import it directly from your contacts. You’ll get a preview of your postcard (both sides) before entering your PayPal information.

I do love the idea of personal, customizable postcards – they do still seem so much more personal than an e-card. This app is very easy to use, and for the price of a real postcard plus postage, I’d say it’s a pretty convenient deal.

MakeMy Music iPhone App Review 1 MakeMyMusic iPhone App Review

Not happy with the ipod functionality on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch? Looking for a funner and more customizable way to set up your daily listening? Well you may really enjoy MakeMyMusic then!

Developed by Tekton Technologies this app is slick. It looks slicks and it’s a new way to play your music from your iPhone or Apple Device. Let’s take a look ..

When you first open the app it goes to your music to choose a song to start. Hitting the ‘i’ button in the lower right hand corner goes in to a bunch of tweaks you can make to enhance your playback experience. That brings up the Music Options, where you can set which songs play when, the look and behavior of your app, display settings, and much more.

MakeMy Music iPhone App Review 3 MakeMyMusic iPhone App Review

First let’s look at the “My Music” button. By opening this you can actually go into your song list and define which songs you’d like to hear during different parts of the day. So, if you’d like mellow music while sitting in your office, you can set that up while keeping the fun and energetic tracks for later in the day when you need a little pep in your step.

From here let’s look at the “Time of Day” option. This is where you define the app’s different times of day .. i.e. morning, noon, evening, and night. These of course work with the customize tracks that you just set in the “My Music” options.

Going into the General and Display options let you define the user experience, from the background image, to shuffling options, slideshows, and so on.

Ok .. so you’ve set up your music for the different times of day, you’ve tweaked your settings, and now it’s ready to go. Now when you open the app, it determines what time of day it is, then goes into your music listing and retrieves the songs you’ve designated for that time slot. It not only does this but it presents it on a very rich and user – definable screen.

MakeMy Music iPhone App Review 4 MakeMyMusic iPhone App Review

In addition there are some really nice controls built into this app as well. For instance, to change a song you can either set it to act on the shake to shuffle feature or you can simply flick the screen to the next track. Want to change the volume? Just drag your finger up or down the screen and it’s easy as that! Want to change your place within a track? Grab the spinning ball in the middle of the screen and reposition it. There are all kinds of really nice tweaks built into this.

All in all for $0.99 this is a pretty slick app that really bumps your music playing experience up a few notches. If you use your iPhone or Apple Device for music as well I’d suggest heading over to the app store and grabbing a copy of this today. You will be really pleased!

Mummy Panic: A Thoughtful Strategy Game

Mummy Panic: A Thoughtful Strategy Game is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $2.99   Score: 9/10   By M. SchustermanMummy

There are fast, mindless games aplenty for the iPhone, so much so that when I finally do get a new game that requires a little more thought, takes a little more time, I get frustrated. Sad, really, as when it comes to other non-iPhone games I like one that makes me use my brain a bit.

So my first few minutes with Mummy Panic, designed by Christopher Sisk, I tapped my foot impatiently when the actual concept didn’t make itself immediately clear. An hour an a half later, I hadn’t moved. This was after three cups of coffee, too, so my refusal to get up and abandon the game is a significant testimony to its addictiveness.

I recommend watching the short video tutorial in the app before playing, as you might find yourself staring dumbly at the screen once game play starts otherwise. This is a maze game; you have several mummies, anywhere from three to dozens, scattered on different parts of the screen and facing different directions. In the top right corner, you’re given one or more arrows pointing in a specific direction. Tap any spot on the grid to place the arrow and control the direction the mummies move.

The mummies automatically begin moving whichever direction they’re facing, and when they hit a wall or an obstacle they turn right. Your goal in Mummy Panic is to get the mummies into a crate; not the easiest of tasks when you’ve got one measly down arrow to work with. Impatient gamers be warned; much of this game requires staring at the screen, plotting, then you get one tap before you sit back and see if the mummies all make it in.

The waiting was annoying until I realized that tilting the iPhone away from me sped up their speed – a thoughtful feature I loved. The graphics are quite good, and don’t let the first two levels fool you…it gets complicated, and there’s over fifty of them. Things get more interesting when explorers come into play – they move like the mummies and respond to your arrows, and running into one will do your mummies in.

My only small complaint with Mummy Panic is that sometimes, with new graphics and objects on each level, it’s difficult to guess what the mummies with pass through, what will make them change direction, and what will kill them (or whatever the version of “kill” is for a mummy). Other than that, I enjoyed this game and plan on getting back to it as soon as I finish this review. That last level was really getting to me.

App for Abs: Get Strong With Abtastic

App for Abs: Get Strong With Abtastic is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $1.99   Score: 10/10   By M. SchustermanAbtastic

The quantity of exercise apps out there is plentiful, the quality often poor. Most often, the cause for a frustrating exercise app experience is either shoddy video work or frustratingly slow load times.

However, Abtastic delivers exactly what it promises; 15 short videos with easy to follow instructions on different ab-focused exercises. Designed by 2Dogs.com, this app gets right to the point. Open it up to find the menu with the 15 videos, each with a name and a picture so you can see the move in action. Users should take note that about half of the videos use either a bench, hanging handles or an exercise ball, while the other half require no equipment.

The quality of the videos is as good as they promise – each session (about half a minute long) is shot at multiple angles, and the voiceover instruction is clear and easy to understand. Once the app is downloaded, there’s zero wait time. Tap the exercise in the main menu to see the name and a short description, which explains what part of your abs the exercise targets, as well as how many sets and reps you should perform per session. Tap again to start the video.

What I like about each video is that they waste no time in getting down to the exercise. The instructor is already in position and begins performing the routine, with the narrator explaining how to position yourself and what to focus on while you move. For those looking for a lot of guidance, this app doesn’t design a personalized ab workout for you – it provides you with the tools you need to create your own.

Good exercise videos are fairly expensive. For two dollars, you’re getting about eight solid minutes of high quality, ab-focused instruction and video – not a bad deal for those serious about their workout apps.

Pros and Cons: Your iPhone Decision Maker

Pros and Cons: Your iPhone Decision Maker is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $.99   Score: 10/10   By M. SchustermanPros

Looking for a way to make a tough decision, but not quite ready to resort to the Magic 8 Ball yet? Pros and Cons may be the answer to your dilemma.

When it comes to really serious issues, I’ve found that listening to my gut works better than a statistical analysis of the positives and negatives involved. However, for some problems a nice, unbiased assessment is a good idea. McLeran Consulting LLC have come up with a super simple, easy to use app to help you figure out the best decision based on fact.

Open Pros and Cons and you’ll find four simple icons at the bottom of the screen; a plus sign, a minus sign, an up arrow and an equals sign. The top window is labeled “Action.” Type a name for your decision in that field, such as “move to New York.” Tap the plus sign to enter a pro, like “better job,” and give it a rating on a scale of one to ten (ten being the best). Tap the negative sign to enter a con, like “expensive rent,” and rate that as well.

If you exit the app, your entries will disappear, but tapping the up arrow retrieves them. When you’ve entered and rated all the pros and cons you can think of, tap the equal sign. Pros and Cons will generate either a large plus or negative sign to let you know if the pros outweigh the cons, or vice versa. If you’re dead even, you’ll get a question mark, leaving you to seek help outside of your iPhone to make your decision.

I know this app had a few bugs in the last version, but I had absolutely no problem with the back button or any other feature. Tapping the up arrow or the X next to “Action” could potentially erase your information, but you must confirm it through a pop up message before that happens. If you need some objective perspective on a problem, download Pros and Cons and give it a try.

Use Wifi/3G to Make International Calls With Vopium

Use Wifi/3G to Make International Calls With Vopium is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: FREE   Score: 8/10   By M. SchustermanVopium

Ever since downloading Skype years ago and using it almost daily to talk to my family free when I lived overseas, I’ve suspected a change was coming in the way phone companies offer and price services. AT&T changing their policy on allowing VoIP calls to be made over their 3G network was one of those changes.

Vopium is one of a few apps that allow you to use 3G and Wi-Fi networks to your financial benefit when it comes to making international calls. The app itself is a free download, and you can give it a shot before committing to the subscription cost with 15 free minutes and 15 free SMS anywhere.

I know Vopium has had quite a few updates since launching this app. For my part, it actually worked really well. I sent my mom a text, then had a nice chat with my husband, who is currently in Mexico. The call dropped once, although to be fair, that happens to us quite a lot no matter what phone service we’re using. Quality was fine – I had no problems hearing him, and vice versa.

When you open Vopium, you have access to your list of contacts from your phone book, a history section of who you’ve called through the app, an option to login to IM, and the keypad. The keypad looks exactly like the regular iPhone keypad, but with your current balance showing, and an SMS option. Under “More,” you can add friends and groups to organize your contacts, adjust your settings to what type of mobile network you prefer Vopium use, and add or transfer money in your account.

The app is easy to navigate, and like I said – it worked great for me. However, like calls made over any type of network, experiences may vary. Because both the app and trial period are free, I highly recommend frequent international callers give Vopium a shot and potentially save a good deal of money on calls.
