Review – “Find and book hotel rooms from your phone!”


ToucHotel 1 208x300 ToucHotel iPhone App ReviewDo you travel a lot? If so you’d probably be happy to have an easy way to book hotel rooms without talking to a hotel representative! ToucHotel uses an extremely basic search feature to quickly connect you with hotels in the area that you’ll be staying in!


When you open up ToucHotel you’ll see a search bar at the top of the screen. Below that search bar is a list of all of your recent searches if you have any yet. To find a hotel in your area all you have to do is type the name of the city in the search barToucHotel 2 208x300 ToucHotel iPhone App Review at the top of the screen. Once you do a list of matching results will show up below, and all you have to do is touch one of them to view all of the hotels in that city!


When you touch a city to search inside you’ll be taken to a screen with two scroll-wheels. You can use these to select what day you’ll be arriving and how many days you plan on staying. One thing that I noticed pretty quickly with this app is that there is no way to specify what state you are searching for a city in. For example; there are 39 “Springfield”’s in the United States, but if you search for Springfield you’ll only be shown results for one of them.


With that said, if you do find a hotel that you’re interested in the city you’re aiming for all you have to do is touch it to bring up a screen full of information on it. At the top of this screen is a picture (which you can click on to see more), the name of the hotel, the Hotel’s rating, and four buttons to access info about the hotel, a map of where it is, photos and to share information on the hotel with someone!


At the bottom of every hotel screen you’ll see a list of room types that are available with their current price. Touching any of them will bring up a confirmation screen that will tell you everything about the ToucHotel 4 208x300 ToucHotel iPhone App Reviewroom and offer a link to a page where you can actually book the room! My overall impressions of this app were that it is very easy to pick up and use quickly. However, if you have difficulty locating the right hotel(s) in the right cities there is not really any way to do an “advanced search.” You’ll just have to scroll through the results until you can find what you’re looking for!


All things said, the app is free, and does do what it claims to do! If you’ve been looking for the easiest/quickest way to book a room this may be what you’re looking for. If; however, you’re looking for an extremely powerful tool to locate and compare hotel rooms worldwide you may want to check out ToucHotel for free in the App Store today!

iStair 1 208x300 iStair iPhone App ReviewIf you’ve got a regular workout routine and stairs are something that are included in it, you may want to check out iStair. iStair is an app that will count how many steps you’ve taken for you! How does it accomplish this you ask? Through the use of the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer!


When you open up this app you’re taken straight to the main screen. At the top you’ll see a large number that shows how many steps you’ve taken, and just below is a “Reset” button iStair 2 208x300 iStair iPhone App Reviewand a “i” button. To use the app you’re supposed to just hold it in your hand as you walk up the stairs. I was kind of expecting the app to ask me to just put it in my pocket, but holding it makes more sense if you really want an accurate count!


At any time you can restart your step count by touching the “Reset” button. Touching the “i” button will bring up a screen that describes how to properly use the app. There is also a “Sensitivity’ meter here as well. By default the meter is set in the middle and is set at the ideal sensitivity, based on an average person’s step.


There’s not really much else to this app, but it does what it’s designed to do well.  If you’re workout routine regularly includes steps (whether on a machine or on real steps) you may want to check out iStair.  This app can make keeping track of your workout as easy as holding your phone as you walk! The basic idea is that you are timed and given a certain amount of attempts to solve a series of puzzles. Once you start a game the timer will start immediately. The first time you play it though you won’t want to pay too much attention to it because you’ll need to figure out the various puzzles.


In order to be included on the global high score list you’ll need to complete the entire game. Some of them are simple things like telling you to press a button. Others will give you a list of instructions that you have to memorize and complete or even tell do something in the instructions box while other tells you to do something else!


While a game like this is not going to be worth $4 or $5 because of it’s limited nature, it does manage to offer a little bit of replay value by having the high score list oncer you finally figure out all the puzzles. For $0.99 I can say that I would recommend this game to someone that enjoys figuring out puzzles and definitely to someone that loves competition. So what are you waiting for? Enchanted Forest 1 300x225 Enchanted Forest iPad App ReviewOne of the first types of games to hit the App Store during its beginnings was the “brick-breaker” game type. Since then there have been a variety of different approaches and variants of these games for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Enchanted Forest takes a few concepts from these games, adds in a basic storyline progression, and is written exclusively for the larger screen of the iPad!


Now this is your fair warning, if you are not a fan of cheesy “fairy” art in games Enchanted Forest 2 300x225 Enchanted Forest iPad App Reviewthen you may want to give this game a pass. If; however, you can get past the fact that the game’s art looks like it came out of a book of fairy tales though the game itself is pretty good.


The main menu offers several different options. Among these options is a “Community” button. Before you get started you’ll definitely want to go here and log in to your OpenFeint account if you have one already. If not you can quickly and easily sign up as well if you like. A side note here; it would have been nice if the game just asked you to log in to OpenFeint the first time that you open the app.


Once you are ready to start your game just touch the “Play” button in the upper left corner of the menu. You’ll need to create a profile to get started by typing in yourEnchanted Forest 3 300x225 Enchanted Forest iPad App Review name and then it gets right to the game. You’ll see an overview of the game map with your current location pinpointed on the map.


Once you touch the screen from the map you’ll be taken to the game screen. There are two different control schemes to use, and the default one is to use the accelerometer to move your paddle. I personally found this method to be a bit jerky though and changed it to where you touch the screen to control the paddle.

Some of them give you extra points, while others will either help you or make it more difficult as you continue. There are also coins that you can collect by making the ball run over them.

As you complete level you’ll continue to see your progress on the map in-between levels. When you reach a new “chapter” there is a totally new look for all of the levels.


My initial impressions were that the “story” aspect is a little bit cheesy, but the game itself plays well and offers enough variety to keep it interesting for most people. As with a lot of apps for the iPad it seems a little pricey to me when compared to the variety of apps available on the iPhone, but I did find it to be pretty fun. There are three rows of letters, and the rows alternate directions in which they travel off the screen. As you scan through the letters, when you find a word simply click on the series of letters that form the word and then tap on the checkmark icon. After that the letters will clear from the bottom and then you can start forming the next word. The goal is to see how many words that you can make within a 60 second time period.

One you are done it will show you some stats, such as your score, the rate at which you formed words, and so on. This gives you motivation in order to try and keep beating your previous scores.

Simple enough?

While the concept is simple, it is actually a pretty fun game to play. Plus you only play round in 60 seconds so this is really good when you don’t have a lot of time to spare. The first row of icons are more informational icons, giving you information and background on the developers. The second row starts getting into more of the DJ abilities. Since the app doesn’t have a help menu or tutorial associated with it I’ll have to interpret the way some of these icons act for me.

The DJ Play icon appears to be where you pick a song and then it just plays a pre-mixed song made by the developers. When you go into Game Play, you will pick a song to start with and then you will start adding in different mixes as you choose to. Ghost is where you would save a song, if during the Game Play you end up with something that you really liked.

The banner icon appears to be a flashlight type that scrolls Shut Da Mouth across it. Twitter send you to their twitter profile. Finally the Mingame icon takes you into a minigame (obviously) where the goal is to match up icons that have three of the same one on the screen.

Ok .. my favorite part of this app was the minigame although there is no way of returning to the Main Menu without closing the app and reopening it.

The only other part of this app, to me, was the Game Play icon. Without directions I had no idea what to do at first, or even how to exit out of it. Once I started it up I had no idea what half the icons along the bottom were for, so I definitely think that this app needs a nice tutorial in it for the different section. In the middle of the Game Play screen (as you can see from below) there are a bunch of buttons for different sound effects, which you can turn on and off while a song is playing. Another note if that without digging in to the app a bit I would have had no idea how to save a song to the “Ghost” section.

Anyway, the app seems interesting although I think that it needs a bit more content to warrant the current price it is asking in the app store. Right now it only includes 5 songs so you could use this to play around with but you couldn’t use it extensively. Also, once you create songs and load them into your Ghost slots you can’t really do anything with them except replay them. I would think it would be a great addition to make these songs exportable to an mp3 format (if Apple would allow such a thing) so they could be used in a real DJ setting. Right now it seems like a DJ toy that is limited and not transferable to anything someone could use in real life (unless you can DJ a party with your iPhone).

While I think it needs more content and possibly a lower price, if you are interested in this application you can head over to the App Store and pick up your copy today.

Trisect Development has created a simple but handy calculator that incorporates the ability to build and solve functions, which is quite easy to use.

To start with this is a pretty easy to use Scientific Calculator combining all the regular abilities you would consider from one. The top portion of the App is pretty self explanatory and useful even of itself. If you’re looking for a decent calculator App that is going to give you these built-in functions that this App is definitely one you should consider. There are other iPad Calculator Apps that only have these options, and are selling for more.

Secondly, which is the bottom of the App, you have the formula builder. A little bit more complicated than the calculator alone, this is where you can build and solve your formulas. A great feature in addition to the regular formula input is the ablity to insert your variables too – which makes this a fantastic formula solver too.To input your variables you simply enter in the values under the letter for which they are represented (a – f, x, y & z).

You can either input them using the keypad on the iPad or enter in the formula details from the preset values on the App.

The only drawback I found is that when in Landscape Mode, and editing with the iPad keyboard, it covers the bottom half of the App and you can therefore not see what it is you are typing into the Formula field – however this is not a problem in Portrait mode, which is what I figure most people will be using it in anyways.
