iTunes Update Adds App Gifting Option
iTunes Update Adds App Gifting Option is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
If you’ve bought an iPhone application in the last few days, you may recall having to accept an updated version of the App Store’s terms and conditions.
According to Mac Rumors, the user agreement was updated to address a new option that allows App Store customers to purchase applications as gifts for other users.
By clicking the drop-down arrow next to the “Buy App” button on any app description page, users are presented with a new “Gift This App” option, giving customers another avenue to spread the word about their favorite App Store titles.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a creative way to tell someone in no uncertain terms that you despise them, you can make them play something like, say, Stick Escape. Please enjoy your new powers responsibly.

The Best Selling iPhone Apps of 2009 – Official Apple Data
The Best Selling iPhone Apps of 2009 – Official Apple Data is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
2009 was a big year for the app store and the official numbers from Apple are in.
- The Sims 3
- The Oregon Trail
- Need For Speed Undercover
- Madden NFL 10 by EA Sports
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour by EA Sports
- Assassin’s Creed – Altair’s Chronicles
- Flight Control
- Cooking Mama
- Civilization Revolution
- Wheel of Fortune
No surprises here – franchise games did extremely well, with Electronic Arts making a big showing with 4 of their titles in the top 10. With prices generally in the range $4.99 – $7.99, we suspect that these figures represent the top grossing apps, rather than the top selling by volume.
One of the stand out success stories of the year was Flight Control from Australian development studio Firemint, who showed that a small team with a good idea can still shake up the established players.
- Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor
- Real Racing
- Zenonia
- Ravensword: The Fallen King
- Earth vs Moon: Ep.2 – Enter The Perk Shop
- Sally’s Spa
- Ragdoll Blaster – A Physics Puzzler
- Canabalt
- Blades of Fury
- DOOM Classic
The Top Rated list paints a more inspiring picture for developers, with all but one of the titles coming from smaller studios.

Again, the Top Selling apps appear to be ranked based on revenue.
Several $50+ apps that made the list, including popular mobile navigation apps TomTom and MobileNavigator.
Showing that there is still room at the top for the little guys, Bolt Creative and DistinctDev had a great year with their $0.99 offerings Pocket God and The Moron Test respectively.

Building off the success of their Ocarina app, Smule managed to end up with two of their music titles – I Am T-Pain and Leaf Trombone in the top 10, showing just how quickly a quality development team can go from indie to commercial mainstream.

Apple Enables iTunes Track Previews In-Browser
Apple Enables iTunes Track Previews In-Browser is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

You may remember a few months back now that Apple unveiled a new system in which it used a web-based interface to show song information for an individual iTunes URL, before you were physically transferred to the actual iTunes store itself. The move came in sync with the iTunes store re-design which saw the store become more streamlined overall, with a cleaner, crisper interface. Until now, these new web-based ‘Preview‘ pages have lay dormant, offering no real purpose other than to provide necessary links to albums and individual tracks on the iTunes store.
Today, Apple has reportedly enabled studio 30 second previews of all tracks in it’s current iTunes catalog to work in-browser. Mac Rumors are reporting via GigaOM that these previews are encoded in 44.1 KHz AAC format at 300+ kbps, and playback is issued via QuickTime.
The move falls in line with Apple’s recent acquisition of the online music streaming service Lala, which could see Apple move it’s entire current catalog online, possibly offering all-you-can-eat subscription based plans in the future.
Apple Redesigns iTunes App Store
Apple Redesigns iTunes App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
While looking at a new app this morning, I noticed the App Store in iTunes on my Mac had been redesigned. The screenshots seem bigger, a sidebar to the left with stats about the app, the descriptions starts small and can be expanded by clicking “more”. I like it so far. This may be part of the redesign before they release iTunes to be viewable on the web (recent rumors).
