I think this is a great app for a number of reasons, the main one being that it connects you with short simple reviews from people who aren’t critics. Flixup! connects you with friends and strangers on twitter to see what the buzz is on current and upcoming movies.
When you open the app it automatically shows you the top movies and what people are saying about them. Click the movie link and you’ll be directed to information about the movie, a movie trailer and twitter reviews from anyone and everyone on twitter. If you log in to your twitter account you can get personalized reviews from all of your friends to know what the real critics have to say about each movie.
Then you can go back and look at the same results for upcoming movies and then you can go to a page to see just what your friends have been saying about movies.
I think this is a great app because it gives me an unbiased and less pretentious review of movies that is usually missing from critics reviews. This isn’t to say that I don’t take stock in critics reviews but I also appreciate the reviews of people going to the movie just to be entertained and not to pick it apart.
I love that this gives you information about the movie and then short sweet reviews. It even gives you a color code to let you know how many favorable reviews are showing up on twitter.
I would love to see more features added to this to make it even better but as it is, I think it may be quickly becoming my favorite movie app. Now if it would only give me access to movie times and maybe the option to see critics reviews, I would be very happy.
I think it is amazing how simple this app is to use and how well it synthesizes all this information from twitter and makes sense of it into one app. This may be the best way to quickly get reviews about whatever movie you want to see, because now you can read dozens of reviews in the time that it used to take you to read one.
All I can say is grab this app, you won’t regret it.

I was looking for a movie tonight on IMDb.com (Internet Movie Database) and noticed an ad for an app for the iPhone. I had tried some other apps before so I wasn’t thinking it was going to be a new app. It is new, and it’s from IMDb themselves. What’s great is one, it’s free, and two, it’s a really nice app. Here’s some of the features:
For the past few years I have been a very loyal and enthusiastic Netflix customer. In my humble opinion, Netflix is one of the greatest things on the planet – so naturally, you would assume that they would have an app equally as great; unfortunately they do not. PhoneFlicks is a third party application that works directly with your Netflix account so that no matter where you are, your queue is just a few taps away.
The first thing that PhoneFlicks does is ask for you username and password. In order for PhoneFlicks to access your Netflix queue, you must enter in this information, but once you do, everything else is easy (not that logging into your account is particularly hard). The main menu of PhoneFlicks easily allows you to search your queue, view the instant queue, revisit your recent activity, remind yourself what movies you currently have at home, view recommendations and view any reviews that you have written.

I found it very easy to search through my queue, move certain titles to the top so that they ship faster, add movies to the queue and even read descriptions or get recommendations. PhoneFlicks has the same type of search categories as the Netflix website. Whether you are in the mood for action & adventure, a foreign film or something new, this app has the capability to search in a variety of ways.
