When in Paris, we also got to see Hero of Sparta II from Gameloft. And I must admit, I wasn’t originally all that interested in it. While I know that Hero of Sparta was a very good selling game for Gameloft, it didn’t really click with me. I didn’t see anything wrong with it, it just wasn’t for me. So you must understand that when I took a look at Hero of Sparta II, I was surprised when I was completely blown away. Hero of Sparta II was the hit of the night. This is one killer game.

Hero of Sparta II is a third person hack and slash game, much like the first one. The difference is that we’ve had 18 months since the first one was released and the iPhone platform has matured immensly since then. With that maturity, game studios like Gameloft have the ability to put more resources into creating killer games. And that shows in Hero of Sparta II. This game has great gameplay, an amazing look, and very refined engine. Throw in an interesting story and multiple tasks to accomplish along with the main storyline and I’m guessing this will be an even bigger seller for Gameloft than the first.

Hero of Sparta II picks up after the first episode ends. King Argos is sailing back to Sparta, his homeland after escaping Hades. He will of course have to pay for this and will face 12 new levels set in 8 different environments once he reaches home.

There are three levels of difficulty you can play the game at, easy, normal and heroic. You must complete easy or normal to unlock heroic. The good thing about heroic is that all of your weapons are with you from the start. The bad thing is it’s really really hard. There’s also a special mode called the Arena, outside the main story line that you can unlock, if the game thinks you are good enough. Not really sure how this will work, but I’m intrigued.

To help King Argos in his quest, he has 5 different weapons he will gather along the way. He starts out with the sword and shield, then come the wings, flaming claws, meteor crown, and the lightening spear. Each of the weapons are upgradeable by gathering items during the game. In addition, each weapon has a special unique attack that you can use once enough energy has been charged.

Hit the jump for a video walkthrough of the first few minutes of the game and more details.

Thanks to Slide To Play who were at the event as well for the following video. We ran out of time and didn’t have a chance to shoot any. The video gives you a walkthrough of the first bit of the game and gives you an idea of the quality.

The controls on this game have progressed a bit from the original as well. You still have the same movement stick on the left part of the screen. But the attack control on the right is a bit different. You can tap the right control to attack, but you can use different attacks by swiping the right control up/down/left/right. To initiate the special weapon attack mentioned earlier, just hold down on the attack button. A good use of a right stick and an innovative attack control. In addition, you can attack while jumping, something that was missing in the first version.

Let’s talk about the graphics a bit. The graphic quality of this game is absolutely amazing. We previewed the game on an iPhone 3GS for which this game is enhanced. If you have a 3GS you will see better lighting effects and better textures in the game. If you have an older device, don’t worry you’ll still see a fantastic game, but it will be turned down a notch.

Hero of Sparta II should hit the App Store any day now. But we don’t know an exact release date — we’ll let you know when we see it.

mPassport Paris Keeps You Alive in the City of Lights

mPassport Paris Keeps You Alive in the City of Lights is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: Free (limited time)    Score: 9/10    By Steve BeaudrymPassport Paris

mPassport Paris by HTH Worldwide is one of the more useful apps in the App Store. If you’re on your way to Paris and are concerned about your health, this app will tell you where to find doctors, what medicine is equivalent in France to what you’re taking, and how to translate symptoms you’re having into French. Currently, the mPassport app is only available for Paris, but they also have a subscription-based web interface for the entire world. Presumably, Paris is the first stop in making medical apps for a number of international cities.

When you open the app, you can see right off the bat how useful it’s going to be for your medical needs. Say you have an unusual cough and would like to see a doctor about it. The very first button you see is “Request Appointment,” which takes you to a list of doctor specialties, and then the doctor offices themselves, and then the info such as phone number (which you can tap to call) and address (for which there is a map). It’s really just as easy as that!

Also, if you run out of some medicine there is a drug equivalency guide. With this guide you can scroll to whatever medicine it is you’re missing and find out the French name for it. You can also scroll to French names and find out their English counterpart. I don’t think I really have to tell you how useful this is for someone who doesn’t speak French!

There are also Emergency Service numbers, Hospital locations and Pharmacy locations. This app wins for being that comprehensive in its goal to provide medical information to the Parisian traveler. But there’s even more. Down at the bottom of the home page there is a button labeled Medical Translations, and, for me, this is where the app really shines. There are two choices: either medical phrases or medical terms. If you’re looking for a single word to translate, you want terms, but if you go into phrases you can find a wealth of common phrases relating to medical wellbeing and care along with their written French translation and if you tap on the translation you can hear an attractive female voice speaking the phrase. So, if you have a medical problem, you don’t even have to speak French – just get out you iPhone with mPassport Paris. Although, it does take a minute to find “I need a doctor quickly.”

A Location tab shows you a GPS-enabled map with pins for nearby doctors and pharmacies, a Recents tab shows you what you’ve been looking at recently within the app, and a Saved tab shows you those things which you’ve marked as your favorite. This app gets high marks for usefulness and human welfare, but one drawback keeps it from a full 10 – it’s only useful if you’re going to Paris (and to a lesser extent, France).

mPassport Paris requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with both iPhone and iPod Touch.

iPhone App Review: mPassport Paris

iPhone App Review: mPassport Paris is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Have you ever heard the horror stories about people on vacation that are hurt or have a reaction to something and have to deal with doctors and specialists that don’t speak their language. mPassport Paris is and app that ensures that you will never be in that situation in Paris. This app was developed to give you a list of doctors and dentists that speak English in Paris.

mPassport Paris Pros:

This app does all that you are thinking that it does and more. When you find a doctor or dentist that you would like to see, you can have the app schedule an appointment for you. Some other extras that you may find useful in Paris are the drug equivalent guide, medical translator, or the emergency services functions. The app looks and functions great, providing a seamless app to the average user. This app provides a function to help you find yourself in Paris, so if you are by the Moulin Rouge or in the near by town of Versailles you can find the nearest medical service to your location.

mPassport Paris Cons:

This app offers all that I expected it to provide and more. I searched for a while and the only thing that I can think of is that it could use some pictures of the landmarks, that would be useful to the average tourist.

This app is a must buy for those that expect to visit Paris in the near future. I understand that this app is the first of many of the same type. I think that this is exactly what the world traveler was waiting to see. Don’t get caught in Paris with a tooth ache and a French dictionary guiding you to a dentist, use mPassport Paris.

Pros:

- Many, many extras
- Functions to help you locate services
- Pictures and bios of the doctors.

Cons:

- No pictures of the landmarks or neighborhoods.
- So far limited to only Paris.

I give this app a 9/10 because the mPassport is a must have for world traveler.
