The art of stop motion is a filming technique that’s been around since the late 1800s and popularized in the swinging 1960s. It’s created by photographing every movement a character or prop makes, then stitching them together in rapid succession. Although, it’s quite complicated and therefore mainly left to the pros. Now, you can make your own stop motion film easily with just your iPhone and StopMotion Recorder.

The app is basic; just point and click. When you first go into the app, the camera will be deployed. The principal is easy – pose your characters and touch the screen to take pictures. A nifty feature to make sure you line up each shot from one to another is a shadow of the previous picture (aka onion skin), so there will be no unwanted differences once you put the frames together.

Once finished, you get a chance to review all the frames, cut ones you don’t want and set the speed of your movie (how many frames you want to play per second) and that’s it! A stop motion movie in minutes. The list of your finished movies can be accessed any time from within the app.

There are lots of options to chose from for sharing for creations; send to Twitter using YFrog or TwitVid, mail it or upload it to Flickr or YouTube. Interestingly, if you want it in your camera roll, you have to export it from the app first. It would be much better if the movie was automatically added to the camera roll, like many other picture and movie apps do. There is a settings menu, but nothing there is too complicated and instead just invites you to try different effects on your pictures.

The photo quality of the movie is also only as good as the iPhone camera. Don’t expect to have a very high quality movie unless you are in natural sunlight. Though the app does try to focus each frame as you take it, giving each frame a much crisper look. Due to the quality restrictions of the camera, StopMotion Recorder might be a little too irritating for those without patience or a steady hand.

One very strange detail is the lack of auto-rotation when taking the photos. If you hold the iphone on its side to make the most of the screen, then you might end up with an upside down or sideways movie that needs editing once uploaded to a computer, defeating the object slightly.

Anyone looking for a bit of fun should give StopMotion Recorder a go, as it’s bound to bring hours of entertainment to an individual or a group. The creativity is pretty much boundless, only tampered slightly by the lack of rotation and camera quality. For just $0.99, this is an absolute steal.

Once upon a time I dated a girl who was obsessed with retro photo booths. When I say obsessed I mean we would literally spend hours upon hours scouring a city trying to find one. Don’t get me wrong, we had a lot of fun doing it and the photos were always hilarious, but our quests often lead us to some very…questionable establishments. That and being pulled away from watching the Bears vs. Packers game to go take pictures was not exactly a brownie point winner. Oh, how I wish I had something like IncrediBooth back then to help keep my sanity.

IncrediBooth does an amazing job of bringing those retro style photo booths straight to your phone. Using the iPhone 4’s front facing camera you can quickly take a strip of photos using one of the three lenses (B&W, SuperContrast, and Kaimal infrared) offered. The SuperContrast lens gives a yellow/green tint while the Kaimal infrared leaves a red one. The lenses are chosen by twisting a knob to a “1, 2, or 3.” While the app itself doesn’t provide a description of which lens is which, it’s easy enough to figure out after about 5 minutes of tinkering around. Quick tip, if you’re having trouble turning the knob, use your thumb and pointer finger to twist, just as you would on a physical knob. From there you can “step outside the booth” to collect your photos to share via Facebook, e-mail, or save directly to your camera roll. Each strip is four photos long and you can chose to share each photo individually or the strip as a whole. The only real complaint I have about the app is the lack of support for the rear camera. There are plenty of instances I can think of where using the rapid fire shot towards others would be more than amusing, plus the flash would really help in low light situations.

In the end IncrediBooth is a very well made app but ultimately falls into the category of novelty. The $.99 price tag makes it a novelty that’s worth a look especially if you’re looking for a reason to use your front facing camera. However, without the rear camera support it will undoubtedly become an app lost in your iPhone’s great abyss of folders with other greats like Sound Grenade and The Moron Test.

Has Apple Lost Another 4G iPhone? More Photos And Video

Has Apple Lost Another 4G iPhone? More Photos And Video is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

After the media circus surrounding Gizmodo and its potentially lost/stolen iPhone 4G prototype last month, it seems there’s another iPhone 4G in the wild. Possibly not a prototype this time.

Mac Rumors has been provided with a link to a Vietnamese forum, Taoviet.vn, where more pictures of the new iPhone have been posted. According to a Mac Rumors’ source, the device was purchased in the USA along with an iPad. The device is shown from a number of new angles and a teardown of the product is also shown.

A video of the device has been posted to YouTube (see below).

Little new information has been provided by these pictures, however the iPhone’s casing shows that it’s a 16GB model, whereas Gizmodo’s featured XXXGB on the back.

The casing appears more polished on this version with no screws found near the dock connector, suggesting that this is a near finished product. However, in the photos and video, the phone appears to be running some kind of diagnostic firmware and doesn’t look like it responds to presses on the home button. In the teardown images, what looks like a processor with Apple branding can also bee seen.

This new information is set against the sad backdrop of yet another suicide at Hon Hai Group in China where Apple’s iPhones are manufactured. This is the sixth death at Hon Hai this year and follows Hon Hai’s suspension of a member of its security team after a worker killed himself when an iPhone prototype was lost.

After Jason Chen, Gizmodo’s editor, had his home raided by police and his computers and other items taken as part of an ongoing investigation, this Vietnamese poster is playing a risky game. It also brings into question whether or not the “found it in a bar” story from Gizmodo (and its mystery iPhone seller) is likely to hold up now that two iPhone 4G models have surfaced.

Either people are being extremely careless with these valuable prototypes and two have been “lost” by Apple employees in the US or a more serious crime has been committed. This might also explain the shock and awe of the raid on Jason Chen’s house should the police have reason to believe that the Gizmodo iPhone was part of a wider theft.

Either way, our advice to the Vietnamese man in the video above – don’t include your face in footage of you holding a potentially stolen product, it never ends well.

Eliminate the Blur with a Tripod

Eliminate the Blur with a Tripod is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Blur TripodI’ve personally never really believed it when someone would tell me that the iPhone’s camera isn’t bad for a phone. After all, I would take picture after picture and the majority would come out, usually with a string of words which I won’t repeat, blurry and unrecognizable. As I hustled around CES last week taking pictures and spilling coffee all over myself, it was actually Chris Hall who so graciously pointed out, in between laughs of course, that it was probably my pitifully shaky hands that was the problem and not the camera itself. As it turns out, he was right, for once, and for the past few days I’ve been using the Blur Tripod and have formed a new opinion regarding my camera phone.

Priced at $14.95, the Blur Tripod is exactly what you think it is, a tripod for an iPhone. A mini tripod to be precise, which stands about 5.5 inches off the ground or up to 8 inches if you extend the legs all the way. The unit itself comes in two separate parts, the legs and the adapter mount. The legs are made of ultra light weight aluminum wich keeps them portable while still remaining fairly durable. The mount is a simple plastic clip which uses a standard 1/4″ 20 thread camera screw size which makes it usable on most any tripod on the market. An extremely nice feature of this tripod is it’s adjustably, it can truly be manipulated to be able to take photos from nearly any angle you would ever need, however it does become a little unstable when shifted too far to one side. A helpful tip I found though is that while unstable for taking photos shifting the mount all of the way to one side can help in another way by doubling as a steady hand grip for shooting video.

Blur GripMobile Mechatronics didn’t stop there though, they also put together a $0.99 Blur Tripod app to accompany the tripod. It offers several features including a Time Delay shot (yay… I can finally take my own self portraits), and a Multi-shot bust, each of which can have their variables changed to fit the need of the situation. The Muti-shot burst includes another cool setting for taking time-lappsed pictures over a 24 hour span. I personally can’t imagine not being able to touch my phone for a day but its still a neat idea. In addition, there is also an easy to calibrate level for making sure each picture comes out straight and even. My only real complaint about the app is that you don’t have control over what it’s focusing on, once this option is added it truly will be a full companion to its hardware counterpart.

Overall, it’s a great little accessory that can add a whole new dimension to your phone. If you’re someone who would even think about taking decent photos with an iPhone, I fully encourage you to pick this one up.

iPhoneography.com – iPhone Photography and Videography Blog is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

##ICON_NAME## I’ve really gotten into iPhone photography lately. Really, I’ve always loved the quality of the iPhone camera but with the new touch to focus, autofocus and video features I’ve really started using my iPhone over other cameras due to accessibility. With my iTunes gift card for Christmas I bought a lot of apps that are for photography or videography. I’ll be sharing my reviews soon but I wanted to share a website with you that I like to check in on about photography and the iPhone.

The site is called iPhoneography.com and is ran by Glyn Evans. He is a photographer, blogger, and has had careers in both photography (Kodak) and IT. Articles from the website include photography app reviews and announcements, videography apps and showcases of photographers’ work. There’s even a Flickr group.

Check it out and let me know if you like it or are already reading it.
