Review – “Learn more about poker strategy on your iDevice!”
If you’ve ever watched Texas Hold’em on TV, then you’ve probably noticed the percentages that they show during play. These percentages show how likely it is that a player can still win the hand. Well what if there was an easy way to view these percentages on yourown? What if you could also learn to use this knowledge to play better poker? Well now you can with Royale Poker Odds for the iOS platform!
There are three main options when you open up this app to the main menu. The main part of the app is the “Odds Calculator.” When you touch it the first thing you’ll need to do is enter in your “hole cards.” Entering cards is a 2 touch process. There is a list of all the numbers/face cards at the bottom of the screen. Selecting one of them will bring up all of the remaining cards in the deck of that number to choose from.
Once you enter in your whole cards see the odds that you will win the hand against all of your opponents. This will vary based on how many players you are playing against though, and so you can set how many opponents you have by touching the arrows in the upper right corner of the screen.
When you’re ready to go on all you have to do is touch the “Board” button in the lower right corner and then enter in the first three cards in the middle of the table. You’ll be shown a list of all your possible “outs” at the bottom of the screen, as well as the odds that you will get them when the next card is dealt! When you finish a hand it’s easy to start a new one by touching the “New Hand” button in the lower left corner of the screen.
The next option from the main menu of this app is the “Bonus” button. This will take you to a screen that has a variety of different pages related to learning strategy. This page is full of great information for novice players, as well as experienced veterans! some of them include strategy on the most commonly played hole cards and learning how to play odds.
In addition to the ability to enter in cards by touching them, you can also add cards by touching the voice recognition button to the left of the other buttons. Once you touch it, it will stay toggled on and you can add cards by just saying their names. I was surprised and just how easy and fast it was to enter in cards via speech-recognition. It was so easy I found that I would rather use the speech-recognition than touch the cards to enter them in!
If you’ve been looking for a good way to learn to play better poker, you would be hard pressed to find a better tool than this app. The interface is simple, and it offers a variety of different types of information and strategies! While $4.99 may seem a bit expensive, sometimes you have to pay a little bit for real quality, and I believe that this app is definitely worth the money. So if you’re still reading this then what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and check out Royale Poker Odds today!

Most games are an adventure of chance. Not knowing how things will turn out is part of the excitement, but when there is money involved, risk results in nervousness (and potential poverty if you don’t play your cards right). Many, of course, don’t know how to quit while they’re ahead, basing their continuing play on gut feelings and wishful thinking.
For those who want to hopefully improve their luck by approaching their games in a more sensible manner, there is Royale Poker Odds by Itchigoo. With the Texas Hold’em Edition, Royale Poker Odds is designed to help poker players of any experience level better predict their odds of winning.
As mentioned in the App Store description, most odds calculators emphasize their complexity and number of indicators, which ultimately confuses players more than the game itself. Instead, Royale Poker Odds goes upon the assumption that you do not have any idea what cards your opponent may have in his or her hand. While other such calculators ask you what cards your opponent is holding – something that only a mind reader could possibly know – Royale Poker Odds presents you with your odds against random hands as well as a selected group of cards, giving you a better estimate without depending on your budding telepathic powers.
Royale Poker Odds promises five specific features you will not encounter with any other odds calculator. Royale allows for easy card selection, letting you tap on whichever card you wish to add to your hand. You may also pronounce your card (in English), which will automatically be recognized, then displaying the card on screen. The idea of speaking your card’s names to make them appear seems a tad counterintuitive, however, considering the last thing you want to do is share such vital information out loud with your opponent a mere few feet away. Also, users can determine their starting hand’s expected value, the number of outs on flop and on turn, their chances of winning against up to nine other players, and their chance of winning or tying against groups of cards.
The main menu lists three different categories: Odds Calculator, Bonus and Settings. Odds Calculator allows you to enter your starting hand information, number of players and other such information, then presenting you with your odds of a win or tie. Bonus presents a selection of odds both pre-flop and post-flop, such as The Sklansky Matrix and Probabilities at Showdown. Settings allows you to determine your computation preferences: Speed first, Speed = Accuracy, and Accuracy first. This all seems genuinely helpful, though I’m not sure your opponents will enjoy waiting the time it takes for you to input all of the necessary information to determine your odds.
While there are no distinct written directions on how to use Royale Poker Odds, they do provide a wonderful instructional video that may just help explain what to do better than written instructions ever could. Simply tap the screenshot icon in the bottom right corner of the home screen to access the video within the app itself. To view the video demonstration of Royale Poker Odds, click here.
Royale Poker Odds requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch.
REVIEW – “Play poker and chat for free on your iPhone!”
As a poker buff there is nothing better than a good set of poker friends that really know how to play the game. While Live Poker may not always give you access to great players, they are at least human players, and the extras that this game offers are great.
When you first download this app you are given 10,000 free chips, but if you want more than that you can download one of the paid versions, or download the free version and add chips later. I highly recommend the second option because you might find that you can grow you own pile of chips easy enough, plus the game gives you 2,000 chips a day and a lottery to win, so you’ll be able to play at least a little every day.
When you sit down to a table you are dealt into the hand and the game follows the normal rules of Texas Hold’em. In order to place a bet or raise you use a dial to pick your amount. These are no limit tables which can sometimes make the game interesting and others times boring with the number of people trying to bluff with all in before the flop. But what I found slightly annoying was that the dial was never that exact and I spent too much time trying to just get into the ballpark of what I wanted to bet.
But that is only a minor issues, there are bigger ones and great things that make up for it. One of the things that I thought was great was that you can buy things for fellow players. Click on their picture and you can buy then drinks, food, flowers and even tissues! This is a cute little feature and it is always funny to see a cocky player buy the entire table tissues, only to lose the hand.
The game also allows you to chat with the other players, but unless I am missing something I found it very pointless. The amount of room they leave for the chat only has space for two lines and about four words. So I would see people talking and I would get a few words and then “…” with no idea what was supposed to come after or how I was supposed to be able to see it. If there is a way please let me know because I played around in settings trying to find it.
Some other nice features are that you can connect with friends who play poker as well both through the app and through facebook. Which is fun to be able to send them gifts and receive gifts in return. I also liked that you were assigned a rank based on how well you played and how often you played, so it’s a fun challenge trying to rise through the ranks.
All in all this has to be one of my favorite apps for the iphone because it combines social networking and chat(sort of) with a really great game. I like that any time I have a few minutes I can play a few hands of poker and maybe even connect with friends.

RPGs and card games? It’s an interesting combination to be sure, but Sword & Poker is a great bite-sized strategy game. The concept is simple enough to make it easy to pick up and the RPG elements aren’t overpowering, but the resulting game requires plenty of strategy. As you duel monsters and progress through the dungeon, it’s easy to forget how much time has passed. This quirky title is definitely a must-have strategy game.
In the world of Sword & Poker, the “Lord of Chaos” has captured the “Stone of Creation” and has formed a gigantic dungeon to protect himself. You, the hero, have to get the stone back—using the power of cards. The dungeon is divided into floors, and monsters block your path on each. It’s up to you to kill them…by playing poker. The premise is definitely frivolous and the plot is rarely touched upon, but the game itself is the centerpiece here.
You play Sword & Poker on a 5×5 grid, with an initial nine cards placed on the board. You and your opponent each have four cards, and two of your cards are always visible to your opponent. Each turn, you place two cards on the grid to form a five-card “poker hand.” Each hand deals a different amount of damage. (A flush is a lot better than a single pair!) Playing against the opponent means that you’ll need to use some extra strategy, however; you don’t want to leave a flush waiting for him! It’s a lot like Puzzle Quest in that respect.
As you progress through the game, you unlock more abilities and twists that pile on still more strategy. The most important is the ability to purchase different weapons. While your basic bronze sword deals damage in a logical succession, other weapons have strengths and weaknesses, favoring certain hands over others. Other will have effects that kick in if you play a certain hand—for example, equal points may be awarded for two-pair and three of a kind, but the latter will paralyze your opponent. Throw in shields and a magic system, and the game evolves even more. And that’s just the stuff inside the individual battles. Outside of battle, you’ll have to ration your “charge coins,” which can be used for healing or redeemed for extra points at the end of a level (you usually get only one or two) as well as chose which path to take: is the treasure worth facing this monster for? The result is a strategy game that’s insanely addicting and easy to learn while providing you with a good amount of challenge. There’s also a local multiplayer option, which is great—too few games have local multiplayer, and it works wonderfully in Sword & Poker.
As for the art and sound, Sword & Poker is solid in this area, too. The cartoonish graphics manage to be cute-ish without being nauseating, and the whole game has an air of humor to it. The background music is stereotypically epic and precisely what you’d expect from a title like this; while it can get repetitive, I still found it enjoyable.
Sword & Poker does have a few irritating quirks that need to be addressed. There’s no way to access multiplayer once you’re playing the normal game, unless you want to restart the app—hello, there, wonky menu system! Also, you can only have a single save file, with no obvious method of restarting your character. A few weird translation bugs are present in the help files, and it looks as though once the game ends your only option is to grind through until you earn the best sword & shield combo…at which point you can beat pretty much any monster. I’d like to see a “free-play” mode filled with random monsters that limits your strength, as well as more content.
Still, there’s a lot to enjoy in Sword & Poker. The gameplay is addicting and even with a clear end to the game, it’ll take you some hours to finish. Everything is well-balanced, and the evolution of the game as you progress just makes it better. The mash-up of two very disparate genres leads to a surprisingly entertaining game. If you like strategy games at all, Sword & Poker is a steal. Be sure to grab it before the price goes up!
Practice your poker game any time and any place you want to perfect your play and develop that winning edge. Lone Star Hold’em is one of the slickest and quickest games of no limit Texas Hold’em out there. Smooth animations, beautifully drawn graphics and realistic sound effects couple with fast-paced gameplay to create the perfect tournament atmosphere.
We’ve put a little bit of ourselves into this game – all of the built-in opponents are based on members of the team at Adduce Studios (but we aren’t telling who’s who), each with our own unique playing and betting styles. If you’d rather play against familiar faces, you’re free to add your own opponents using photos from your album or the camera. We’ll choose a playing style for them – you just need to figure out what it is!
FEATURES
- Play no limit Texas Hold’Em against 1-3 opponents.
- Choose your blinds and starting stack size.
- Choose from the built-in opponents or create your own using photos of your friends, family, pets…
- Tracks your statistics against all the opponents with a record of games played and games won.
- Quit a game and pick it up where you left off at any time – when you return, you’ll be asked if you want to resume the game.
REVIEW – “No need to hide behind sunglasses for this game of poker!”
For those of you who enjoy playing poker, PokerDash is a game that you will surely love. I would consider myself an amateur poker player, so for me, this game was great. You don’t have the stress of people staring at you around a table, no need to worry about betting or calling or knocking or all of the “proper” things that you have to worry about when you play with real people. Pokerdash is still a game of odds – it just betters them for you in a fun, new and exciting way.
You are given three different “hands” in which you can put cards. You are given one card at a time and you must decide if that card will go in hand 1, 2 or 3. Sounds simple enough, right? And for the most part, it is. It is easy enough to keep you coming back for more and more and more… just the way gambling should be ☺.
The goal of each round is to meet your target number which is raised after winning a round. It starts off small – the first round’s target is to get three points. But as easy as getting three points sounds, I lost 6 hands before I was able to get on a winning streak. Once I did hit a winning streak though, there was no turning back … that is until I didn’t hit my target number.
The target number for each round raises as you increase in rounds and so does the amount of points that each hand is worth. For example, a pair in round one is worth one point, a pair in round two is worth two points, etc. The numbers don’t double every round, but they increase significantly as does the target number.
I think one of the reasons that I found this game so appealing was that you get more than one chance during each round. It’s not like a regular game of poker where you are either in or out – so what if you have a bad hand in Pokerdash, you have two others to fall back on and hopefully get you the amount of points that you need within them. As they say, two is better than one, so with those odds, I am willing to bet that three is better than one too – so if you don’t mind, I’ll take the option of winning with three hands.
Pokerdash is fun, easy to play and fast to win (or lose). It is definitely worth the 99 cents as it makes for hours of entertainment. It is addicting to the point that 20 rounds later, you wonder where the last hour went. But if you don’t think the game sounds challenging enough, you also have the option of playing the timed version – so download it now and start brushing up on your poker.
DEVELOPERS NOTES
Pokerdash is combined with the strategy and fun of Poker with the simplicity of solitaire along with elements of classic puzzle games.
The idea is to build the best poker hands possible by placing cards in any one of three hands.
If your points for each round match or beat the target you will advance to the next round. The better the poker hands the more points you will be awarded.
Sound simple? Pokerdash is a highly addictive challenging game of skill that will provide many hours of fun!
How high can you get? Will you become the World Champion on the Timed leaderboard?

Glu invited us into their offices again yesterday to take a look at some of their upcoming games. We saw some old favorites, some early prototypes, and a really innovative take on music games.
Glyder 2
First up, let’s get what I really came to see out of the way… I finally got my hands on Glyder 2. It’s still early for that title — just a few builds past first playable, but this exciting sequel to easily my favorite Glu game ever is already looking good. As we mentioned previously there will be customization of your character available — both in the form of the suit she wears and the wings she uses. The different wings give you slightly different skills — climbing, turning, speed, etc. Not enough to make a huge difference in the game, but enough to be noticeable.
There will be six or seven new worlds to explore. And in addition to the crystal collection aspect of the previous game, you will also have multiple point quests to go on. Glu heard from the passionate users of the game that they wanted more of everything in the first one and new things to try. And we’re going to get it.
Take a look at this hands-on video of Glyder 2 from Slide To Play:
One of the most exciting bits of news about Glyder 2 was that Glu have committed to providing multiple free updates and expansions to the game after it launches. No specific time frame was given, but if the game remains popular, it could be for a good while.
Glyder 2 will be out by the end of the year, and I can’t wait.
Beat It
Beat It takes a new twist on the music game genre. This game actually makes you listen to the music. It turns it from a rhythm tapping game into more of a puzzle game. The result is a very compelling game that I found very hard to put down.
The idea behind Beat It is that you listen to a short 3 instrument rhythm track and you have to re-create it on a sequencer board. You do this by tapping cells to turn on / off that instrument for that beat. You can switch from listening to your current attempt to the original anytime, which is nice to see where you are missing notes. When you have the notes for an instrument in a particular bar correct, they start to twinkle letting you know you can go on to another. The game ramps up from 3 instruments and 4 bars to I believe 7 instruments and 6 bars.
Take a look at this hands-on video from Slide To Play:
It should also be mentioned that this game has some amazing animated art. Your game is separated into multiple worlds and there is a story unfolding behind your sequencer grid in each world. Before each new level you see a little part of the story and as your music clips get more complex so does the story behind you.
In addition to the multiple instruments, there are 5 different instrument sets that are used in the game. These are also available to use in the free play mode that lets you create your own tracks. In a future update you will be able to share your tracks with others.
Beat It should be available sometime this month.
Read on for details on 1,000: Find Them All, World Series of Poker: Hold’em Legends, and Taxi Fight.
World Series of Poker: Hold’em Legends
Yes, finally network multiplayer poker! While it may not be the most touted feature of this game, it will be the first Hold’em Poker game we’ve seen with network play allowing you to play with up to 8 other players from anywhere in the world. In addition there is a 2 player heads up mode that you can play over Bluetooth.
WSoP looks like it will be a very competent Hold’em Poker game for the iPhone. It certainly looks fantastic. From the short time I had with the game it played very well. The AI is promised to be really well done, adapting to the current parameters of the game well. If there’s one odd thing it’s that this is sub-titled Hold’em Legends, but there are no real-world players in the game. I’m guessing the licensing got sticky at some point. Doesn’t really matter, you won’t miss them.
The game includes just about everything a seasoned Hold’em player could want in a poker game. Multiple table locations to play, cash game or tournaments, quick play (tap to bypass the dealing animations, etc.). And there are the things there for the new players as well — hand strength indicator and most other players have tells early in the game.
As a promotion for this game, Glu have started a contest where you can win 2 VIP tickets to the World Series of Poker final table in November. To sign up, head on over to WSOPMobile.com.
World Series of Poker: Hold’em Legends should be available in November.
Taxi Fight
We saw a nearly final version of this game yesterday. It’s a new take on now huge line drawing genre. One where you don’t actually draw the lines, just the start and end points to connect two moving objects.
The idea of the game is that you need to match up taxi riders with taxis. To do this you tap the rider, then the taxi. There will be multiple of each on the screen at once. The difficulty is that the riders walk in a straight line, and the taxis are circling the blocks on the screen. Keeping them from colliding can be difficult. The game ends when one of your riders gets run over by a taxi, or when he waits to long and his head explodes.
This looks as though it could be a fun casual game. We’ll see it out this month for $0.99.
1,000: Find Them All
We saw an early prototype of this game, not due out until January, 2010. The game has some really promising aspects to it. Huge world with great graphics, sort of a old-school Zelda look to it, and a compelling collection mechanic.
What is confusing is that there are three different ways to play, all very different in how they are done. First there the on screen mode — walk around the world gathering the 1,000 objects. Second is a GPS mode — where you have to walk around the real world to random spots gathering object. And third there is a WIFi mode that works off of the available Wifi hotspots in your area. The third one I didn’t really understand all that well.
What I do know is that there is a good base for a massive (60-80 hours of gameplay) and very compelling game here, it’s just suffering from a bit of an identity crisis right now.
