Review – “Familiar shapes in a new type of puzzle game!”

tetrapped 1 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App ReviewTetrapped is a puzzle game that is designed to really make you think. There are no timers or score, it’s just how many moves will it take you to solve the puzzle! The basic idea is that you are given various shaped pieces inside a box and you have to move them tetrapped 2 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Reviewaround each other to get a certain piece in a certain place. While it may sound simple, it can be extremely confusing!

The man menu screen is simple, and yet creative. The main menu is made up of 4 blocks of various shapes that make up your menu options. To get started just touch the “Play” button at the top and you’ll be taken to a tutorial the first time that you do so. Once you finish the tutorial you’ll be taken to the first level. The game defaults to a 6×6 board the first time that you play but there are two other sizes: 7×7 and 8×8 that make it more difficult!

Every time you start a new level you’ll see the “target” block start out where it goes and then move somewhere else. Once that block is in place it is surrounded by some othertetrapped 3 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Review blocks of random shapes. At the top of the screen you’ll see a box that shows how many moves you’ve made and your best score on that level if you’ve already completed it.

To play the game all you have to do is grab the block you want to move and drag it where you want it. You can only move blocks in one direction in 1 “move,” but they can be moved in any direction. The levels are all designed to make you think, and some of them are actually very easy if you think a little outside of the box.

There are three buttons at the bottom of the screen that will take you back to the home screen, allow you to select a new level, or restart the current level you’re working on. Whether you bring up the level select from in-game or through the option at the main menu, you’ll be given a list of the different board sizes to choose from first, and then you’ll be taken to the list of levels for the on you choose.

There are a few basic options that you can set under the “settings” button from the main menu of this tetrapped 4 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Reviewgame. They include the ability to turn certain sound effects on/off, change the color scheme and reset your stats. There is also an option to turn “Auto Advance” on/off. This will send you straight to the next level when you finish when it’s on, or just stay at the finished screen till you do something if it’s off.

The basic concept of the game feels somehow familiar, but at the same time new. One thing that seems to betetrapped 5 200x300 Tetrapped iPhone App Review missing is a “competition” factor. It would be cool to be able to see the minimum number of moves that are required to solve a particular puzzle. This would give you a number to shoot for and would make the amount of moves that you solve a puzzle in mean a little more.

While I have played a couple of other games that use a concept similar to this game, the “Tetris” shapes really add a new twist that I had not seen before. There is plenty of challenge in this game and it has hundreds of levels that will test your patience for hours on end! The game is currently available for $0.99 and I would definitely recommend it if you need something to pass some time, or if you just enjoy games that make you think.

There are a LOT of sudoku games out there in the ether of the app store. Some are decent, some are okay, and some make you wish for the paper and pencil variety. A small number are very good, and fewer still are what I would call spectacular. Sudoku 2 Pro HD is an awkward name for what is hands down the best sudoku game I’ve played on the iPad.

Every aspect of Sudoku 2 Pro HD is well thought-out and executed, from the graphical and audio flourishes to the spot-on controls. Developer Finger Arts really deserves a commendation for taking what could have been another run-of-the-mill puzzle game and transforming it into a smooth and elegant experience.

The beauty of Sudoku 2 Pro HD is that it both enhances the core gameplay of solving sudoku puzzles while also staying out of the way – keeping clutter and needless interference out of the interface. There is no “story mode” here or cutesy characters distracting you. What remains is a very slick sudoku experience. Again, and I can’t say this enough, it’s the best I’ve played yet.

Enhancements are subtle, but well worth noting. Finger Arts has implemented a point system in the game that rewards accuracy as well as speed, and all scores are posted to OpenFeint leaderboards (if you so desire). Small graphical touches like numbers that spin when you complete a line or a nine-number grid have an amazing positive reinforcement effect that will keep you coming back for more. Add to that the crisp, unobtrusive sound effects whenever you place letters and you begin to see how immersive a sudoku game can be. And no, I’ve never thought of a sudoku video game as immersive before. I suppose there’s a first for everything.

The bottom line is, if you enjoy sudoku, you owe it to yourself to give Sudoku 2 Pro HD a try. if you’re like me, you’ll soon discover that most other versions of the game pale in comparison.

Master of Alchemy HD for iPad Review

Master of Alchemy HD for iPad Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.56 out of 5 stars

Master of Alchemy HD for the iPad does a lot of things right. Graphically, it’s impressive – not from the amount of pixels or polygons it pushes, but from the creative graphic design of the game. The game design is clever, if derivative, and the challenges are deep. Why is it, then, that the game seems only marginally entertaining?

The setting for Master of Alchemy HD is, of course, the Middle Ages, and you are an apprentice to a master alchemist. You get to choose your character and backstory at the beginning of the game, but this really doesn’t impact the gameplay and seems more like window dressing than anything else. The character designs, however, are beautifully drawn and presented. Your chosen character’s goal is to learn the secrets of transmuting solids into liquids, liquids into gases, gases into solids, and so on and so on. To accomplish this task, you are given several tools and the ability to place them pretty much anywhere on the screen. After a brief and effective tutorial, the game begins.

And this is the point where you figure out that Master of Alchemy HD is like any number of puzzle games that have come before it. You know the type: guide X creatures/items to Y location within a certain time limit. It’s an old mechanic; at least as old as Lemmings. There’s nothing wrong with it, per se, but I was hoping for more than a simple retread of an old idea. Instead, Master of Alchemy is a puzzle game where, yes, you do transmute matter to an extent, but only in service of getting that matter to a predetermined goal point on the “map.”

So, I return to the strong visuals, and especially strong audio, in the game. If you are already predisposed to like puzzle games of this type, you will no doubt be delighted with Master of Alchemy on your iPad, as it executes its puzzles quite well in a remarkable visual and auditory style. In fact, I would argue that it’s one of the best-looking and sounding games in its class. If, however, you are looking for something new and different, something that takes its theme and really uses it to fuel an original concept, this is not the game for you. After all, you can’t get blood from a stone, can you? Even the alchemists couldn’t do that.

The BillyGoat Quiz 1 300x200 The BillyGoat Quiz iPhone App ReviewIf you enjoy things that make you think then there is a good chance you’ll find “The BillyGoat Quiz” to be a lot of fun! The basic idea is that you are timed and given a certain amount of attempts to solve a series of puzzles. Some of them are fairly simple, while The BillyGoat Quiz 2 300x200 The BillyGoat Quiz iPhone App Reviewothers are designed to trick you into thinking the answer is something different.

When you open up the game you are asked if you’d like to sign into your OpenFeint account. In case you’re not familiar with OpenFeint it is a social gaming platform that allows you to see what games your friends are playing and compare your scores with them and the rest of the world!

Once you set your OpenFeint settings it will automatically log you into the account you chose when you The BillyGoat Quiz 3 300x200 The BillyGoat Quiz iPhone App Reviewstar the game. The main screen that you start at has 4 different buttons. In the lower left corner is a button to access the OpenFeint network and your settings. The lower right corner will take you to the developers website where you can find more information about the game and who created it.

The button on the left in the middle of the screen will take you directly to the global high scores list and the one to the right of it will start a new game. Once you start a game the timer will start immediately. The first time you play it though you won’t want to pay too much attention to it because you’ll need to figure out the various puzzles.

In order to be included on the global high score list you’ll need to complete the entire game. The puzzles are exactly the same every time you play but itThe BillyGoat Quiz 4 300x200 The BillyGoat Quiz iPhone App Review took me quite a few tries to figure them all out. Some of them are simple things like telling you to press a button. Others will give you a list of instructions that you have to memorize and complete or even tell do something in the instructions box while other tells you to do something else!

While a game like this is not going to be worth $4 or $5 because of it’s limited nature, it does manage to offer a little bit of replay value by having the high score list oncer you finally figure out all the puzzles. Review – “Train your brain with Analogy for iOS!”

analogy 1 300x200 Analogy iPhone and iPad App ReviewThis is a great example of an app that is not only fun, but educational as well! Analogy is an app that plays full screen on both the iPhone and iPad platform, and is designed to stretch your child’s brain as they play! You’ll find that this app will teach problem analogy 2 300x200 Analogy iPhone and iPad App Reviewsolving, analytical thinking, and creativity, and at the same time entertain!

To get started all you have to do is touch the “Unlock to start game” button in the lower right side of the screen. The first time you open the app you’ll be greeted by some basic rules that explain how to play. You can turn off this introduction in the settings menu at any time, or leave it on for future reference.

The game itself is set up so that you are given an example of two items that are somehow related, and then one more item with 4 options as to which one it is analogy 3 300x200 Analogy iPhone and iPad App Reviewrelated to. For example, one of the puzzles in the game is “feather: duck :: fur : ?” The options for the answer are “pig,” “bear,” “rat,” and “swan.” The correct answer in this case is bear because that’s what a bear has on its outside, while feathers is what a duck has!

In the upper right corner of the game screen is a timer that shows how long you’ve been playing the current round. Just to the left of that is your current score/how many questions analogy 4 300x200 Analogy iPhone and iPad App Reviewthere are in the current round. Each time you get a correct answer you hear a confirmation from the app telling you that you did a good job. These seemed nice at first, but they do get old quickly. analogy 5 300x200 Analogy iPhone and iPad App ReviewThey can be easily turned off while playing the game by touching the speaker icon in the upper left corner of the screen.

That’s the basics of how to play the game. Back at the main menu screen you have four buttons along the bottom. the three on the right will take you to more information on other games by the same developer, to the email app to contact the developer about promotion alerts or to tell friends about the app.

On the far left side of the menus a settings button. From here you have a variety of different settings from whether to show the game rules at the beginning, to the difficulty level and numb of questions. At the very bottom of the screen you can also choose whether the game will use “Pattern” questions or “word” questions.

The difficulty levels in this app are definitely well-suited for children. With that said, this app could easily have been made more appealing to all ages if the developers had included a higher difficulty level and some form of a high score list. I actually was a little surprised that there is no form of high score list currently.

All things considered, this app does very well for its intended audience. So while it may be a couple of features short of being an app for all ages, for $0.99 this is a great way to help your child’s mind develop! If you’re still thinking about it, don’t wait any longer. Grab your copy for just $0.99 today!

Hexius 1 200x300 Hexius iPhone App Review

Hexius 2 200x300 Hexius iPhone App ReviewIf you’re a fan of Puzzle games, particularly Matching puzzle games, you should definitely pick up Hexius. It’s a well designed, interesting and unique game that is suited perfectly to the iPod, and the graphics are great on the iPad.

Hexius 3 200x300 Hexius iPhone App ReviewBefore you begin, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you go through the tutorial. I skimmed it, and to be honest, I had to go back and read again. The funny thing is that most people will look at the game board and think “Oh, this is easy, I can do this” thinking it’s a match or swap game, and might get frustrated easily once they keep dying on the first round. OK, so obviously this is what happened to me – but let my failures be a warning – read the tutorial!

Hexius 5 200x300 Hexius iPhone App ReviewOnce you’ve done so you’ll realize there are different goals based on the different games. In Level Mode (which is my personal favorite), the goal is to destroy certain targets but combining similar hexagons in a chain series. Once you have the basic concept down, you start to develop some skill when it comes to the order in which you add your hexagons to your chain. Again, all of this information is in the walk-though but since I missed it I felt really smart when I realized that surrounding the targets with your chains also works. But beware, you only have 90 seconds (with extra carried over) for each round.

Strategy Mode lets you practice your scoring by letting you only complete 30 moves. You can try and try again, to beat your score, improve your combos and clear more Hexagons. Finally, Time Attack mode is just that – get the highest score you can within your time limit. There are three different types of “bonus” hexagons which are created under different circumstances, and do three different power, or use. Freeze, Reveal and Bomb.

Hexius 4 200x300 Hexius iPhone App ReviewOnline Leaderboards (via OpenFeint) help you keep track of your scores, which is particularly helpful for Time Attack and Strategy Mode. The only issue I had was that once you ‘Game Over’ in Level Mode (say, at Level 6) you have to begin again at Level 1 – there’s no option to save or continue from your level. I suppose this is the challenge, to see how many levels you can beat. But for those of us who like to play our games in short-quick-bursts (say, while waiting in line, or during commercials), I wish I could have a checkpoint to restart from.

This game does have a learning curve, don’t get frustrated in the first few tries, you’ll catch on quick and then it’s much more fun than your everyday run-of-the-mill match-up games. I strongly suggest you try it out! Since it’s a Universal App you can simply buy it once and use on all your iOS Devices, see the links below for iPhone or iPad.

New iPhone Puzzle Game Captures Passion of World Cup

Stoke-on-Trent, England
28th May 2010

Kick’n’Mix Ltd are pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of their innovative, soccer-themed puzzle game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Kick’n’Mix: World Championship 2010 Edition is a seemingly simple tile puzzle game, where you swap and rotate nine tiles to reassemble a shuffled pattern.

But don’t be fooled.  There are nearly a hundred billion wrong answers and the pattern only lines up one way.  Nearly solving it is frustratingly easy – beating it is quite a challenge.

“We’ve created a fun game that looks easy, but can actually keep you puzzling over it for hours!”, said inventor Russell Pointon.

“We first made the game tiles out of cardboard for a promotional giveaway item, but having seen how passionate the people who’d played it became, the opportunity to make this puzzle available to millions of iPhone users was too good to pass up”, he explained.

The mobile game includes 64 different puzzles to solve.  In addition to 32 signature Kick’n’Mix puzzles, styled after each of the football teams taking part in the World Cup finals, there are 32 “training” levels with simple, bold designs that capture each nation’s pride.  Those puzzles serve as a quick-to-solve introduction to the game, or as part of a speed challenge with online leaderboards.

“This game fits the mobile format perfectly, and the iPhone’s high quality touchscreen let us make a tactile game with striking visuals”, said lead programmer Chris Newman.

“The inclusion of the the easier levels means you can pick up the phone and play a complete game in under a minute – and then immediately share your score with friends on Facebook”, he added.

Kick’n’Mix has already attracted interest from high-profile licensing partners and branded versions are in the pipeline.  You may find your football club in a Kick’n’Mix game next season!

Kick’n’Mix: World Championship 2010 Edition is available for download on the App Store, price tier 5 (US $4.99, GB £2.99)

Post image for Octix – iPhone App Review

Octix icon Octix iPhone App Review

Octix ($2.99)

Version – 1.0

Review – “A creative puzzle puzzle game that will make you think!”

One of my favorite types of games are puzzle games, and Octix 1 300x200 Octix iPhone App Reviewwhat genre fits the iPhone OS better? Octix by Desktop Creations is an excellent addition to this genre, and it has the potential to keep you busy for quite some time! Octix is a puzzle game that combines the accelerometer action of moving a ball around with path manipulation to create a game that is both easy to learn, but almost impossible to master!

When I opened up Octix for the first time I was immediately impressed with how finished everything feels in this game. From the opening animations, to the menus, all the way down to to the gameplay itself, it is obvious that Octix 2 300x200 Octix iPhone App Reviewa lot of thought went into this game! When you open up Octix for the first time you’ll be asked if you want to connect to your OpenFeint account or create one if you don’t have one associated with your device already.

The main menu has just two buttons, the first one is the “Options” menu. From here you can adjust the music and sound effect volumes individually. You also have the ability to toggle on/off the tutorial text that tells about the game and how to play. The final option at the bottom of this screen will allow you to delete all of your play information if you’d like to start over as well!

Once you’ve got everything set up just touch the “Let’s Roll!” button to get started! You’ll be taken to a screen full of levels to select from. At first you’ll just have one, but as you play more you’ll be able to unlock more levels, and also more difficulty levels!Octix 3 300x200 Octix iPhone App Review To the left of each level name are two columns to show if you’ve beaten the level and how you did on time and skill.

Once you’re ready to start gameplay all you have to do is touch the level you want to play and then touch the play button on the right side of the screen. You’ll be taken immediately to the gameplay screen. The gameplay screen will show how much time you’ve used ton the current level in Octix 4 300x200 Octix iPhone App Reviewthe lower right corner, and consists of a small metal ball inside a maze of a map.

To complete levels you’ll have to move and rotate various pieces to make a path for the ball to go through. Once you’ve got a path set you’ll then tilt your device to move the ball through the maze and to the goal! You’re scored based on how quickly you can compete the level, and also on which destination you are able to get the ball too. Some of the possible destinations will be much harder to get to than others, and will improve your score!

As you complete levels you will get points which you can use to unlock more levels! Finishing levels more quickly and getting to the more difficult destinations will earn your more points to use as you unlock levels. As you get a little further into the game you will also unlock new difficulty levels! To switch between these difficulty levels at the level select screen all you have to do is touch the tabs at the top of the screen.

The only real problems I had with this app is that it seems to have a few small memory problems. When I opened and closed it several times it crashed on open a couple of times. Every time I had this problem clearing my memory or a restart fixed the problem! Besides this relatively small problem I had a lot of fun testing this app! If you enjoy difficult puzzle games you’ll appreciate it as well. The price may be a little bit much at $2.99, but in my opinion it is worth it because of the replay value that it holds. So what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and download your copy today!

Version – 1.0

Review – “Fun strategy game that will stretch your intellect!”

My wife loves to play games on the internet. There are a lot Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece 1 300x200 Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece iPhone App Reviewof games that make you think of words, or piece things together, or find things out there. What Simeon Graham and Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece 2 300x200 Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece iPhone App Reviewthe Extraordinary Timepiece does is take a lot of those different game concepts, and tie them all together with a storyline. The end result is a creative strategy game that forces your brain to be firing on all cylinders!

The game loads up very quickly, and the main menu is very well done. It looks nice, but is extremely simple and functional. There is the option to start a new Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece 3 300x200 Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece iPhone App Reviewgame, continue your game if you have played it previously, open up an options menu, or view the games credits. The only “Option” in the menu is to turn the music on or off. While the music at the menu is alright, it does get a little bit old after a while of playing so it is nice to be able to turn it off if you want to.

Once you get to the actual game the first thing you’ll see is a pop up box that will start to tell the storyline of the game. The basic story is that a child named Simon Graham’s grandmother has been kidnapped and he has to find her! She’s left him clues along the way and so you’ll have to use your deductive reasoning skills if you want to rescue her!

I found some of the games to be easy to figure out quickly, while others required me to think about them Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece 4 300x200 Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece iPhone App Reviewfor a while until I was able to find a way to complete them. While most of them I was able to figure out without too much trouble, there were a couple that had me stumped for quite some time!

The controls are very simple. While they will change from game to game, you are given instructions that will make them easy to learn quickly. A few of my favorite games types in this game were the word puzzles, and the math ones. With that said, they’re all Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece 5 300x200 Simon Graham and the Extraordinary Timepiece iPhone App Reviewa lot fun. Although it definitely would have been nice to have some kind of a “hint” feature for when you get really stumped.

All things considered the only really negative things I have to say about this app are that the music gets old pretty fast, and that if you do get stuck on a puzzle for a while it gets boring fast because of the linear nature of this game. With that said, ifyou are a fan of puzzle games, this one will keep you busy for a long time! It offers plenty of variation in gameplay, and it has a lot of different puzzles. Simon Graham and the Extraordinary just entered the App Store yesterday evening, and it is just $1.99. So if you like puzzle games then what are you waiting for? Check it out for yourself in the App Store today!
