 REVIEW – “iheart radio Lets You Indulge your Love of Music for Free”

You have an iPod built into your iPhone, but you might miss the regular feel of radio. There are many apps you can download that provide you with music, but they might cost money, as does adding music to your iTunes library.

This app, however, gives you free access to dozens of radio stations, talk radio shows and the ability to play around with your music, by looking at album covers and searching for lyrics.

This app is developed by Clear Channel, so all radio stations that fall under the Clear Channel umbrella are included in this app’s offerings. Some of the options include Ryan Seacrest’s AT40 show, and talk shows featuring Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura and Glenn Beck.

The interface is easy to use. You can scroll through and choose from a number of local channels, or you can choose your listening based on format (adult hits, classic hits, or jazz, for example), or personalities.

Best of all, you can tag songs to listen to later, and you can make certain stations your favorite.

To up the fun element, the app uses the “shake it” technology to let you choose stations. You simply shake your iPhone and the phone will shake itself to a new city and format. If you don’t want that format, you can shake again. If you’re the daring sort, this can be a great way to vary (or, pun intended, shake) up your regular listening habits.

Many people have complained that while apps like the XM Sirius app is free, the service is not. If you’re in that group, this app gives you chance to enjoy a broad variety of music but not pay a penny. For many of us, that’s a no-brainer.
