A Geeks Guide to Bacon Cookery ($0.99)
Version 1.0
Review – “Tasty, Tasty Bacon Recipes.”
App developer: Jada Brazil
Website: http://thecafeteria.net/?page_id=21

Bacon, it’s what’s for Breakfast. Right? Well, not it can be for Lunch, Dinner, Snack – even Dessert. The Geeks Guide to Bacon Cookery (formerly just an eBook) will guide you through one of thirteen different recipes from Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs to Caramel Bacon Apple Muffins, and beyond.
Designed very simply, this App doesn’t have much interactivity. But what it makes up for in style, it has in substance in abundance. The witty, joking commentary and instructions will keep you entertained while you fry up your most favorite food. They’re clear, and concise, which is helpful. There are photos nearly every step of the way (Although I would have liked if they were able to go full-screen, for better viewing).
You’ll get all the information for ingredients you need for each recipe, including a photo On this page you will find the total volumes available by English and Metric but be warned, all of the recipes strictly in English. Unfortunately there is no way to export this list, email it or create a ’shopping list’ for the items you’ll need. I would love to see this feature added in an update.
As for the recipes themselves – they are entirely useful. While you might not think that you need instructions for a Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog – this recipe actually includes instructions on how to fry up some peppers and onions and a helpful suggestion regarding Alcohol;

While it’s not the best designed App, very basic, and I do wish there were more recipes, perhaps this is coming in a future update. In the meantime, however, it’s only 99 cents, and if you love Bacon (and who doesn’t), you should definitely check it out.

iCooking Salads – It’s Easy Eating Greens
iCooking Salads – It’s Easy Eating Greens is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Price: $0.99 Score: 9/10 By Nancy Jones![]()
Craving crispy, nutritious salads? Looking for an opportunity to dress up your greens with colorful, nutritious veggies and fruits? Look no futher, iCooking Salads, developed by Apps of All Nations, Inc., is a great new addition to their growing list of cooking apps. You can get new ideas for salads, make your own dressing, improve your own and your families health and have it all available on your iPhone. Does it get any easier than that?
Just like the other iCooking apps, this one is really easy to use. The main screen offers you a choice of scrolling through all the recipes or sorting them by type. You can also view your favorites or your own special recipes. Choosing the “All Recipes” option allows you to scroll through 67 recipes. The “Types of dishes” option allows you to choose from options categorized as Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter or Sauces. You can make any of these recipes a favorite by tapping the heart at the top right hand corner of your screen. For each recipe, you can see a photo of the finished product, the ingredients and preparation instructions. You can also tap the “More” button and add or remove the recipe from your favorite list or send it to yourself – or friends as an email. Another cool feature is the ability to add your own recipes into the app. You can take a picture of it, add the list of ingredients and the prep instructions and “presto,” your salad is a part of the app.
I have found it quite useful to have a number of cooking apps on my phone. When I am at the grocery store, I can open an app, see what ingredients I need and, by reviewing the preparation instructions, determine how much time I need. You may wonder if you will really use these apps, and I can only tell you my personal experiences. I’ve made dishes from the apps, shared recipes with my friends, and just the other day Iastranger walked up to me at the grocery store and asked me if I knew what kind of cheese went into quiches. I opened up the app and gave her several options. This app, and a few of the others, has definitely helped me get out of my same-old recipe rut.
As part of each cooking app review I try to make at least one of the dishes so I can give you my feedback on the process. For this review, I chose one of my favorite salads – Caprese. It is a simple dish – just mozzarella, tomatoes, basil leaves, olives, olive oil, salt and pepper. There is not a lot to this salad other than slicing tomatoes and mozzarella, sprinkling it with olive oil and staging the dish to show off its beauty. Some of the joy of this dish is in how beautiful it looks when it is done. The crisp white mozzarella against the red tomatoes really sets it off. This is a great dish to prepare in advance of a meal and to impress your guests. This salad goes with almost any meal – or to my mind, makes a great meal all by itself.
Could iCooking Salads be improved? It doesn’t currently have a search feature, but with only 67 recipes, it’s not that difficult to scroll down the list. When preparing multiple dishes from the iCooking apps I would like to have an option to create a grocery list. Neither of these are showstoppers, but they would be nice to have.
I’m writing this review in the summer and it’s a great time to be making salads. With 67 choices of salads and sauces, I can envision some great meals ahead. It’s up to you, but for 99 cents this app seems like a bargain to me. Whenever I am looking for something quick, easy and nutritious to prepare, I’ll be opening this app.
iCooking Salads is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

Recipe Binder Helps You Decide What’s For Dinner
Recipe Binder Helps You Decide What’s For Dinner is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Price: $1.99 Score: 9/10 By Lara Vukelich![]()
Based upon a Facebook application by the same name, Recipe Binder by David Marsland will help you find and store your favorite recipes.
Many of the functions of the app require users to be logged into a Facebook account. If you are one of the last few hold-outs in the world of social networking, then you can either bite the bullet and create a free account with Facebook, or accept limited usage of the Recipe Binder app.
Without Facebook capabilities, the one function available will be the search engine. The app lets you search by keyword for recipes entered by other users. After you select a recipe, you will be able to read a brief description along with information regarding:
- Ingredients
- Serving size
- Prep time
- Cook time
All recipes also specify whether or not they are appropriate for a vegan or vegetarian diet, and if the recipe is nut, gluten, or dairy free.
Tapping the “Method” icon will take you to a paragraph or so explaining exactly how to prepare the dish. Since recipes are user generated, the clarity of these explanations depends on the writing skills of whoever submitted it, but I found them to be generally concise and understandable.
For Facebook users, Recipe Binder also permits saving favorite recipes and viewing recipes you have created on the full Facebook version of the app. Once you have created a recipe on Facebook, not only will you be able to view it, but others can see it in their searches as well.
I’m not exactly a gourmet chef, or even a chef. Ok, I usually just heat things up. If that sounds like you, don’t be discouraged from getting this app. In a way, it’s all the more reason to have it. The full Facebook app allows you to share recipes with Facebook friends, so you can steal (ahem…borrow…) their recipes. And, as aforementioned, you can always search for recipes from strangers too.
The iPhone and Facebook apps communicate with one another, so anything you add to one will be reflected instantly in the other.
I have another recipe app already, but I like that this one communicates with Facebook. However, even if you don’t want to set up an account, this app is still a handy tool for finding a new favorite meal.
Recipe Binder is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.1.2 or later.

iCooking Desserts – A Perfect End to a Meal
iCooking Desserts – A Perfect End to a Meal is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Having a dessert at the end of a meal is often the reward for a hard day at work (or school). For many of us, just thinking about our favorite dessert can send us to a relaxing land of enchantment. I’m sure that a lot of people use recipes that have been handed down over generations, but some of you may not be that lucky. What can you do? iCooking Desserts, by Apps of All Nations, is the answer to your dessert-making prayers. You can cook traditional American treats or impress your friends with Hazelnut Samosas or Berries in Beaujolais. With 58 recipes to choose from the search can be a lot of fun!
It doesn’t take to long to learn to maneuver around this app. You can sort through all the recipes or narrow your search by looking through recipes by Continent (Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Other) or select one from the Favorite list. You can also search through recipes you’ve added to the app. Once you make your choice, you’ll see a list with thumbnail size photos. Selecting one of those will bring up a full-screen size photo, a list of ingredients, preparation instructions and a More tab. Through the More tab you can add or remove favorites or send the recipe to your own email – or someone else’s. Any time you are looking at a recipe you can click the heart symbol at the top right hand side of the screen and it will add it to favorites. On the My Recipes tab you can click the plus sign at the top right hand side of the screen and then add your recipe name, category, ingredients, preparation instructions and photo. It is a great way to store the recipes you prepare frequently.
You might wonder if you would want to have a recipe app. After all, cookbooks aren’t very expensive, but they’re rarely just $0.99 either. However, what an app offers that a book can’t provide is the mobility and easy of use. If you are at the grocery store and you suddenly remember you need to make a treat to send to your children’s school, you can pull up the app, shop for the ingredients (checking prep time) and be good to go. Another benefit is the ability to send the recipe via email. I use this to print out a copy before I cook. I know, that flies in the face of my living green philosophy, but it does allow me to check off steps and ingredients as I cook. In addition, I have a lot of people asking for my recipes after I make a dish from one of the recipes offered in any one of the 15+ Apps of All Nations apps. So, the email feature makes sharing recipes a breeze.
I try to make at least one recipe as part of my review – today’s choice was brownies. Brownies are a family favorite – and who am I kidding – one of my favorites. One of the ingredients is a dark chocolate bar, allowing me to tell myself I am having them for their anti-oxidant benefits. The rest of the ingredients are pretty much household staples (flour, butter, sugar, eggs, etc.) I put it all together, followed the easy steps, filled my house with the smell of chocolate and then sliced into a pan full of heaven. I may have to go back for another one when I finish this review.
When I tried to think about how to improve this app, I realized that it already had a lot of benefits that a cookbook just doesn’t offer. Availability is a key factor. One improvement that I would like to see is a grocery list option. I would like to select an ingredient and have it transfer over to a shopping list. That would be a kind of marriage between this app and a grocery list app. You can still use the ingredient list as a grocery list, but that doesn’t allow for what you might already have in your pantry. It’s not a deal-breaker – but it would be a nice option to have.
With the current economic times, I find myself cooking more and eating out less. This app is priced right (99 cents) and it offers a lot of convenience for the money. Try it for yourself and see what you think. I’d like to hear how you enjoyed the recipes, if you found this app convenient or if you would rather just have a book.
iCooking Desserts is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
iCooking Mexican Cuisine – A Step Up From Ordinary!
iCooking Mexican Cuisine – A Step Up From Ordinary! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Mexican food is extremely popular. People routinely dine out at Mexican-style fast food, local favorite or fine dining restaurants. But what if you could make those dishes yourself? With iCooking Mexican Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC you’ll be able to create all the dishes you love at home.
iCooking Mexican Cuisine is an easy app to use. Recipes are sorted in categories – you can see all at once, or view by types of dishes (starters and vegetables, fish and eggs, meat, poultry, desserts and drinks). You can sort through the list, select favorite recipes and also add your own recipes to the app. Open a particular recipe and you’ll see a photo of the completed dish, an ingredient list, preparation instructions and by tapping “more”, you can add or remove it as a favorite, or even email it to a friend.
Having a recipe app on your phone allows you to have your ingredient list and prep time available at any time. You can be standing in the grocery store and wonder if you have time to make guacamole from scratch and know what you need to buy as well as how long it would take. With 52 recipes in total, iCooking Mexican Cuisine offers a range of enticing recipe options, without being overwhelming.
One of my favorite Mexican dishes is fajitas. I usually get chicken but occasionally beef or even shrimp, so how could I resist trying this dish myself? The ingredients are colorful (part of the appeal of this dish) – as well as being good for you. I purchased my peppers, onion, zucchini, tomato and spices using the ingredients list in the app, and I was ready to cook. I cooked it all in an iron skillet and served it with rice, guacamole and Pico de Gallo (this recipe is on the app as well). You could wrap all this up in tortillas, but I have always enjoyed it without them. I did serve it with tortilla chips, but that almost goes without saying. It turned out great, and now that I have the basic recipe, I can branch out and add other meats or maybe just have vegetarian fajitas.
While a solid app, there are a number of ways to improve iCooking Mexican Cuisine. Although not strictly a dish – a recipe for margaritas would have been a worthy inclusion. In any case, mastering all of the 52 recipes would take a while, and for just $0.99 – one can’t complain. One feature I would like to see in both this app, and all of the iCooking apps, is the ability to select ingredients from recipes and to create a grocery list. It’s not a critical addition, but it would be handy in the supermarket.
Say goodbye to dining out – connect with your family and take back the kitchen. With apps like iCooking Mexican Cuisine, you can learn to cook dishes that are both nutritionally sound and taste good. And for such a low price, that’s not such a bad deal.
iCooking Indian Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
iCooking Japanese Cuisine – Healthy, Tasty, and Easy to Prepare
iCooking Japanese Cuisine – Healthy, Tasty, and Easy to Prepare is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Price: $0.99 Score: 9/10 By Nancy Jones![]()
Looking for an app that offers a variety of Japanese dishes from sushi to tempura? iCooking Japanese Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, could be just what you are looking for. There is an excellent selection of traditional grilled, stir-fried, battered, vegetarian and raw choices for your cooking pleasure.
The first thing you need to know is how this app is organized. You can view recipes by type – starters; pasta, rice vegetables; meat; fish and eggs; or desserts. There is a photo for each dish so you know how it should look when you are finished. You can look through a list that includes all the recipes. After sorting by type or all recipes, you can select your favorites by tapping the heart at the top right hand corner of the screen. You can also add your own recipes into the app, as well as a photo of the finished product.
Having a source for good recipes is of course the obvious benefit of this app. Added to that is having the ingredient list available all the time. Whenever you get an urge to fix a dish you can see what goes in it and pick up what you need. Another feature that I used regularly is the ability to email recipes to either my friends or myself. I like to print out the recipes so that as I prepare them I can check of the ingredients and the steps – I always seem to have a tendency to leave things (or steps) out.
I really like foods prepared in a Japanese style. There are many dishes in the app that my family has prepared for years. Asian Beef Patties are our normal substitute for the American version of hamburgers. We have a number of dishes that are accompanied by a teriyaki sauce that is similar, if not exactly, like the one used in the app and Soba noodles are a staple in our house. For something different, I decided to try making Cucumber maki. I love sushi but I have never tried to make it myself. I was thrilled to get a recipe for sushi rice – it’s the secret ingredient in sushi. Well, that and wasabi.. The steps were well described and easy to follow. I cannot say my sushi rolls were as pretty as the ones that I order in restaurants, but I am learning. Like many people, I consider the preparation and presentation of sushi as an art form. A couple more attempts at this recipe and I will be dazzling my friends. Now I have the skills to try the other ones like, Futo-maki (Large Maki) or Tekka-Maki (Red Tuna Maki).
I’ve reviewed a number of iCooking apps and I waffle back and forth as to whether it needs a search feature. This time it would have come in handy. I wanted a quick reference of all the sushi recipes and had to go through the full list to find them. I would also like to be able to create a grocery list, but using the ingredient list as a shopping list is acceptable.
iCooking Japanese Cuisine provides you with 51 recipes that offer a decent variety of dishes from beef teriyaki to tofu sushi. There are plenty of options to allow you to try your hand at mastering Japanese cooking. If you are looking to add a little variety to your menus and you enjoy Japanese cuisine then it will be well worth the 99-cent cost. The app easy to navigate and has a range of dishes that will suit everyone from beginner to expert.
iCooking Japanese Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
iCooking Indian Cuisine – Explore the World Through Cooking
iCooking Indian Cuisine – Explore the World Through Cooking is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Price: $0.99 Score: 9/10 By Nancy Jones![]()
iCooking Indian Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, invites you to journey through a host of dishes that are traditional favorites in both Northern and Southern India. Whether you are looking for entree’s, main meals or desserts, the 61 recipes provide you with opportunities to please your family and impress your friends.
Your first step after downloading iCooking Indian Cuisine is to choose what to cook. You can look through all the recipes or trim the choices down a bit by going through the types of dishes – appetizers, meat, fish and eggs, vegetables, rice and bread or desserts. Once you choose your target recipe, you can add it as a favorite by tapping the heart at the top right hand corner of the screen. Each recipe includes a photo of the finished product, a list of ingredients, preparation instructions and a “more” option which allows you to either add or remove it as a favorite or send it to yourself, or someone else, via email. One of the unique features of this app is that you can add your own recipes. Once added, they work just like the ones that come with the app.
You can choose to print out the recipe (you emailed to yourself) and use it as your grocery list, or just use the ingredient list in the app. That, actually, is one of the things that makes this app so appealing. I can be standing in the store, decide I want to prepare an Indian dish for supper, and have the ingredient list (and prep time) readily at hand. It is also really handy when someone says, “What a great dish, can I have the recipe?” to be able to easily send it their way. This app works like a mobile “Mom” letting you know how to assemble a meal.
I am a recent convert to Indian cuisine. My favorite dish is one of the simplest – lentils and rice. With that as the main dish, add naan and chutney and I am in heaven. When testing this app I was tempted by the Chicken Masala and the Black Pepper Chicken, but I simply had to know how to cook lentils. I went to a local spice store to pick up all the ingredients and some naan. I admit I substituted vegetable oil instead of ghee. I did a little online research and determined that was acceptable. Cooking the lentils was pretty much like cooking any beans. I did use a pressure cooker to speed things along. I also cut down on the red chili peppers to take a little of the heat out of the dish. The results were everything I had hoped for - a simple meal that didn’t take a lot of time and ended up tasting great and with the added benefit of being good for me!
Could this app be improved? I would like to see an option to create a grocery list. It wouldn’t be too much of a leap to imagine that you are preparing more than one dish from the app. Combining all the ingredients into one list would be helpful.
If you like to try new dishes and impress your friends with your cooking expertise then it is hard to go wrong with iCooking Indian Cuisine. Your only investment is 99 cents and you have plenty of recipe options. For the cost of printed cookbook, you could buy this app and all of the other apps offered by Apps of All Nations. Test them yourself, you won’t be disappointed!
iCooking Indian Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
