Trying to change your diet and include more healthy dishes? The iPhone recipe app, iCooking Greek Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, includes dishes that form part of a heart healthy Mediterranian diet. And while the recipes are great for your health, the price is also great for your wallet – tou get 50 great recipes for less than a dollar!

Navigating your way through iCooking Greek Cuisine is easy.  You can choose to review all 50 recipes and select your favorites as you go along, or you can choose a dish by going through the different types of dishes – starters, vegetables, fish, meats or desserts.  Once you select a recipe you can see a photo of the finished product, view the list of ingredients, read the preparation instructions or through the “more” tab add/remove it as a favorite or email it to yourself or a friend. iCooking Greek Cuisine is a straightforward and easy app to use. In addition to these basic features, you will also find an option on the main screen to add your own recipes.

You will find having recipes with the lists of ingredients always on hand to be a real time saver.  You won’t need to stand in the grocery aisle wondering what ingredients are required for your next dish. When it comes time to do the food shopping, I find emailing the recipe to myself so I can print it out is particularly useful but it’s just as easy to check your items off the screen. You can also add your own recipes to iCooking Greek Cuisine – email them, print them out and, of course, have the ingredient list readily available when you are at the store.

With its range of iCooking apps, Apps of All Nations offers you an opportunity to explore the cuisines of different cultures. I don’t know a lot about Greek food, but I do know I love a simple Greek salads.  I considered making one at first, but thought I needed to get a little more daring. I decided to go with Greek Potato Salad.  There aren’t many ingredients – potatoes, green pepper, tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil and vinegar – and the prep was equally easy. The end result was a tasty dish that was attractive as well.  This will definitely go on my list of things to bring to potluck dinners because it can be prepared in advance, it’s colorful (always a sign of a healthy dish) and it presents well.

I like exploring the food of different cultures and at this price (99 cents) it’s easy for me to justify the cost. iCooking Greek Cuisine has the added benefit of offering dishes that are recommended as part of a healthy diet. Now, if we could just somehow get an app that helps us control portions – that would really be great!

iCooking Greek Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iCooking Italian Cuisine – Food, Wine, Life (Cibo, Vino, Vita)

iCooking Italian Cuisine – Food, Wine, Life (Cibo, Vino, Vita) is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $0.99    Score: 9/10    By Nancy JonesiCooking Italian Cuisine

It’s been a long day; you are at the grocery store and have no idea what to prepare for dinner.  If that sounds familiar then iCooking Italian Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, could be the answer to your culinary prayers. Whether you choose something easy to prepare, like Pasta with Pesto, or are feeling a bit more adventurous and decide to make Tagliatelle with Steak, you will not be disappointed with this app.

With fifty-two recipes to choose from, iCooking Italian Cuisine has a lot to offer.  The recipes are organized by dish type and you’ll find recipes for appetizers, pasta, risotto, meat and fish and desserts. The hard part is deciding which one will be your first.  On the other hand, you can skim down the list of all recipes and be inspired by recipes both familiar and new.  There is also one more feature to add to the mix -  you can even enter your own recipes, complete with ingredients and steps to prepare.

With iCooking Italian Cuisine you’ll never be at the grocery store again saying, “I would make that dish but I can’t remember what goes in it?”  Once you choose your recipe, you can mark it as a favorite and it will be a snap to find when you are shopping for ingredients.  You can search for recipes in the comfort of home, riding the train to work or while eating lunch.  You can email the recipe to yourself (or a friend).  This can be handy if you prefer to use a printed copy as you cook.  I like to check off ingredients as I cook, so a print out was a big hit with me.

Earlier today I was looking through my pile (actually piles) of recipes and the good news is that now I can enter these recipes into the app – a great feature that helps you save both space and paper!  I’ll have the great recipes in iCooking Italian Cuisine, and my own favorites as well.  You could enter all of your recipes into one app, or chose any one of the other 14+ by this developer.

I love Italian food and the three little words that I want you to whisper in my ear are pizza, pasta and bruschetta.  Choosing a recipe to test from this app wasn’t easy – they all looked so tasty.  I decided to branch out a little and do something that wasn’t in my favorite trio. I made Chicken Rollatini and I’m glad that I did! It wasn’t a particularly complex recipe; all you need to do is roll chicken breasts with cheese and prosciutto.  A little bread crumbs, a few spices, some wine and dinner is served!

This is my fifth review of an iCooking app.  During this time I’ve seen updates come through so I know these apps will improve as time goes by.  I’ve passed on, through my reviews, my wish list for improvements or innovations.  As I use the apps more and more, I have fewer suggestions for improvement.  I have suggested a formal grocery list,  but the ingredient list serves nicely. A search feature would be handy, but it’s still pretty easy to scroll through the 52 recipes.  The only wish (not quite a need) that I’ve discovered is that I would like to share my recipes with friends who also use the app.  I can still email them, but it would be fun to send my recipe to their app.

If you are looking for an affordable, easy to use recipe app then iCooking Italian Cuisine is likely to be a favorite.

iCooking Italian Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iCooking Pies and Quiches – Real Easy Quiche (and Pie)

iCooking Pies and Quiches – Real Easy Quiche (and Pie) is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $0.99    Score: 9/10    By Nancy Jones

Some recipes are just basics in every cook’s repertoire. Quiches and Pies (dessert and pizza) are certainly in that category. You could search your cookbooks or the net, copy or print out the recipe or, even easier, download iCooking Pies and Quiches, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, and have the recipes on hand – all the time. You’ll always be ready to plan and cook a great meal or dessert.

Both Pies and Quiches start with a crust so it makes sense to pair these together. There are fifty-seven options for you to review. Once you start cooking, you’ll have your friends asking for your recipes. Open up iCooking Pies and Quiches and start exploring. Your can look through all the recipes, or you can browse recipes by type – sweet pies, quiches, pizza, salty pies or dough. Once you look through the recipes you can mark your favorites.  In addition, there is a place you can enter your own recipes.

You may be wondering if you’ll really find this app helpful. After the great recipes, the thing you will no doubt like the best is having the ingredient list handy so that you will be ready to pick up what you need any time. Another great feature is the ability to email the recipe to yourself (or friends).  I like to check of the ingredients as I work so having a print out was great for me.  Another plus is the ability to add your own recipes.  I’ll be adding my pecan pie recipe (we call it Southern Pie).

Personally, I have been a little timid about trying to make my own crust.  Once I read the ingredients and the instructions, I wondered why I was worried.  It’s really quite simple, so I decided to try the pecan pie.  I used to make it all the time and I wanted to see if it was still as good as I remember. The good news is that it turned out great – the crust was flaky and was just the right complement to the golden brown of the pecans. My mouth is watering just writing about it! We added a little ice cream and had the perfect dessert.

When you are reading a cookbook you don’t usually wonder how it can be improved.  However, when you use an app you start playing amateur developer. So, with that in mind I’d say that as a recipe app it works well. If I had to come up with something, I would suggest a way to increase the number of recipes.  That could be through allowing friends with the app to share recipes or maybe by creating a user community.  If you happen to buy more than one iCooking Cuisine app (they have 14+) you’ll notice that seven of the recipes (pizzas) in this app are also in the Italian Cuisine app.  I don’t have a problem with that; it makes since to include them with the other pies.

I have pizza at least once a week, make a pie every month or so and have quiche when it is offered on restaurant menus.  I have to admit I haven’t made one myself yet.  How often will you use iCooking Pies and Quiches? I guess that depends on your cooking habits, but I expect you’ll find that you use it a lot if you enjoy this style of cooking.  For about a dollar you can have a whole range of recipes readily available and have an opportunity to impress your friends and family with your cooking ability.

iCooking Pies and Quiches is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iCooking Chinese Cuisine – Great Recipes Lead to Great Results

iCooking Chinese Cuisine – Great Recipes Lead to Great Results is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $0.99    Score: 9/10    By Nancy Jones

Cooking is one of life’s great pleasures. Take advantage of some great cooking ideas with iCooking Chinese Cuisine, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC. It offers you some standards (like egg rolls or Chicken and Cashews) and some new and exciting dishes (like Spicy Cucumber Salad or Curried Salmon). This app helps you vary your menus as well as excite your taste buds.

iCooking Chinese Cuisine has fifty recipes that include everything from main dishes to dessert. It is easy to select a dish – you have an alphabetical list of recipes, a list sorted by types of dishes (starters, meat, fish and eggs, pasta and rice, desserts). As you sort through the recipes you can mark them as favorites so you have some options ready when you are at the grocery store. You could look at the recipe, while you are shopping, to see what you might need to buy and then come home ready to cook. If you prefer you can email the recipe to yourself, print it out and use it when cooking or shopping. You can also add your own recipes to the app – complete with a picture.

iCooking Chinese Cuisine, one of 14+ by the developer, offers you a chance to select new, and favorite recipes in order to vary your diet. It resolves that age-old question you are faced with in the grocery story, “what were the ingredients in that recipe?” It offers you an opportunity to review recipes, discuss them with your family or friends and select one that pleases everyone. There is also one unexpected benefit that iCooking Chinese Cuisine offers, which is the chance to organize all of your personal recipes. You can get rid of that stack of random pieces of paper and hand-written notes and have one go-to place to select tonight’s dinner.

I cook a lot dishes that include standard Asian ingredients. Searching through these recipes was a pleasure. The recipe I chose to test first was Stir Fried Beef and Peppers. I used to make this a lot and somehow got away from it. What’s not to like? The ingredients are simple – most of which I had on hand. The prep is not complex. You cut up the beef, chop and sauté some vegetables and mix up the sauce. Stir-frying is one of the healthiest ways to cook and the dish turned out spectacularly.  This is one that will become (again) one of my regular dishes.

I have already reviewed three of the iCooking apps and I’ve discovered something I would really like to have – the opportunity to create a grocery list. I haven’t had any trouble doing this, but being to create one from the app would be a useful addition.  I have mentioned in other reviews that I think the apps should include a search feature. There are only 50 recipes so that’s barely necessary, but it would be nice. Another suggestion for future enhancement would be the ability to share my personal recipes with others who also have the app. It would be nice if I could email my own recipes and make them downloadable by their iPhone.

At 99 cents, iCooking Chinese Cuisine is certainly affordable. It provides you with flexibility and choice with your meal planning. Whether you only have 30 minutes or plan to devote an afternoon to cooking this app will certainly meet your needs.

iCooking Chinese Cuisine is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iCooking Soups – Healthy, Filling, Tasty, Savory Soup

iCooking Soups – Healthy, Filling, Tasty, Savory Soup is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: $0.99    Score: 9/10      By Nancy Jones

Soups are a staple in our diet. They can make a meal complete – or be a complete meal in themselves. iCooking Soups, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC, provides new and experienced cooks with plenty of options to create soups to add variety to your meals. Soups are a culinary feature in most cultures and, with this app, you can learn how to make a good pot of soup that will please your family and, potentially save you money.

The app includes recipes for Creamy Soups, Chunky Soups, Cold Soups, Dish Soups and Meat Soups. There are old favorites like Chicken Noodle and French Onion soup as well as popular soups, like Gazpacho. You can also add your own recipes to the app – including a photo of your dish. The recipes you add will be displayed in the same format – name, ingredients, and preparation as the ones that come with the app. You can search through an alphabetical list of all recipes, types of dishes, favorites or your recipes. Once you choose a recipe you can email it to yourself or to a friend.

You might choose to print out the recipe to use while shopping or cooking. For each recipe you pick, you have a photo of the finished product, an ingredient list, preparation instructions and options (email or add/remove as favorite). Another feature that makes iCooking Soups more usable is that the ingredients are listed in both U.S. and metric measurements. When you find a recipe you like you tap the heart on the top right hand corner to designate it as a favorite.

I love making soup. Vegetable beef soup was one of the first things I learned to make well. I enjoy all kinds of soup. Chicken Noodle is a favorite as well as creamy soups like creamy potato soup or red lentil soup. One of my favorite soups at Italian restaurants is minestrone, so that’s the one I decided to test.  The recipe includes a lot of fresh vegetables and herbs and pesto, which was appealing.  The clear instructions made the recipe easy to assemble and the ending result was wonderful.

There are a couple of small things I would suggest to improve the app. I would add a search feature so you don’t have to scroll through the app. I also think it would be cool if I could put one of my recipes in the app and upload it to a friend’s iCooking Soups app. Or, perhaps there could be a place where anyone could contribute a recipe. Then the list could build and build through user input.

One of the benefits of having this app on your phone is that you can walk through the grocery store after you have decided to cook something and have a list of ingredients on hand. Does it get any easier than that? Soup, as a part of your meal, can be filling and made at a low cost. iCooking Soups, includes 50 recipes, and priced at just 99 cents – that’s a bargain. I found the recipes easy to follow and the results tasty. Try it for yourself!

iCooking Soup is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iPhone App Review – 160,000 Recipes – Big Oven

iPhone App Review – 160,000 Recipes – Big Oven is a post from: Best Iphone App Review Website

160,000 Recipes – Big Oven (Free)

REVIEW – “Big Oven Allows You to Look the Chef No Matter the Reality”

It’s happened to all of us. You’re in the store shopping for groceries and you realize you wanted to make a yummy dessert tonight, but you forgot to find a recipe. Now, you are stuck with the option of a cake mix or nothing.

But not if you have 160,000 Recipes – Big Oven on your iPhone. Simply fire it up and tap your way to a delicious dessert.

Big Oven on the iPhone operates much like BigOven.com in that you see a picture of each recipe and you can choose the recipe that looks good based not just on the picture but the name of the recipe. You will also see the recipe’s star rating (as rated by site users who have made the recipe).

In our dessert scenario, say you are interested in making chocolate cake for dessert. Simply put “chocolate cake” into the search bar and wait for the results. You might choose the “perfectly chocolate” chocolate cake recipe, or the perfect chocolate cake with perfect chocolate frosting. The German chocolate bundt cake might light your fire.

Once you find a recipe that looks interesting, you can click on it to see the recipe, the picture, and read reviews. You can even email the recipe to yourself or to someone else if you want to give them a nudge.

If you are a user of BigOven.com, you can tap into your online account to see your favorite recipes, and add one of the iPhone finds to your account. If you often cook from recipes and do your grocery shopping based on the recipes you are cooking, you might find this feature particularly useful, because you can add all your favorites to your BigOven account and simply access them from wherever you are to help you build a shopping list.

For the home cook, the special occasion cook, or anyone who has need at some point for a good recipe, the BigOven iPhone app is a big help.

Notes:

  1. Recipe Search requires internet access from your device. (That’s so we don’t have to intall all 160,000+ recipes, plus their images, on your device!) If you are not running at full 3G speeds, the recipe and food glossary article fetching speed will be limited by your connectivity. Like Safari, BigOven’s article display speed is directly related to your current connection quality and speed, which varies over time and location. If the app appears slow, be sure you’ve got full 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity.
  2. This app is currently FREE. We reserve the right to do modest advertising, or instead perhaps charge a modest fee for the app at some point in the future to help offset considerable server hosting costs. But we wanted to get this out there and get some feedback on whether it’s useful to you.
