I’ll admit, we’ve been a little slow with the iPad apps since the launch here on 148Apps. And that is mainly by plan. First, there are just 1/80th of the users of the iPad as their are for the iPhone / iPod Touch. Second, there are still way fewer new iPad apps coming out than there are iPhone apps. And finally, there’s you, our loyal readers. You come here for iPhone and iPod Touch app info. While there is some crossover to the iPad — probably way more than 1/80th of you have iPads, it’s still a much smaller audience. So we’ve been slow to introduce iPad reviews and only occasionally post iPad specific news.
Don’t get me wrong — I love my iPad. Since I got it I probably spend more time per day using it than I do my iPhone. Could be the newness, but I think it’s just a more compelling device. And the future is very bright for it.
That’s a pretty long and off topic introduction to this app. It’s one of my favorite iPad games so far and I think it’s about time I share it with you. One of the things that really makes it shine is the human interaction with the game, full screen touch, is so natural. There’s no virtual d-pad to feel awkward using, it’s full screen touch and it works great in the iPad.
Shanghai Mahjong from MobileAge, if you don’t know, has been around forever. The iPhone version, if I’m not mistaken, was available on the App Store at the launch in July, 2008. The app has been updated and improved many times since then. When the iPad came around, they updated the app again to make it a Universal app — meaning that the same app is optimized for the iPhone and the iPad. A very customer friendly decision.
This mahjong game has over 200 different layouts to choose from, bunches of tile sets, and as many backgrounds as you wish as you can import them from your device Photos.
Quite honestly, if you enjoy the game of Mahjong even a little bit, you’d be nuts not to buy this game today while it’s on sale for $0.99. It’s the best mahjong available for the iPad or the iPhone and you get both versions in one purchase for less than a buck. No in-app purchase, nothing, it’s all there for $0.99.

Theseus is a fiendishly addictive and all-around superb puzzle game. Taken from the app store description: “Theseus is a refreshing twist on the traditional maze.”. And frankly, Theseus is personally one of the most enjoyable app store puzzlers I’ve seen in a while, if not my new all time favorite.
The game is at heart a logic puzzle, and involves lots of strategy and thought. Its 85 levels will keep a persistent gamer busy for a long time, so don’t expect to get much done for the few hours after downloading this app. It’s sleek user interface and easy-on-the-eyes game play is icing on the cake.
These kinds of apps don’t go on sale every day, so its highly recommended (I’m begging) that you head on over to the app store, grab Theseus, and enjoy some quality time with one of the top puzzlers on the app store.

Earlier this week Ubisoft released AC2 Multiplayer for free as a promotion. Launching a well known title I’m sure they expected a lot of downloads, which they got, but what they weren’t expecting was a buggy release where a majority of people couldn’t even play a round. Ubisoft is aware of the situation and extended the free promotion until their update is released. I picked up the game and like many I was unable to play, that is until I tried to create my own game. If you try to do a quick play the load circle just goes and goes giving you no sense of progress on weather people are joining the game or if its just frozen. When you create your own game you see all four slots so when someone joins the game you can see. This is the only way I have been able to play a game so if you got the game and have the same problem I had try this method out. If you haven’t downloaded the game I would recommend doing it fast because the update can come at anytime.

Compression is a snazzy, Dr. Mario – style tetris game that I reviewed a few months back.
It’s casual, fun and pretty easy to pick up and play. There’s also a new $0.99 in-app purchase that unlocks another addictive game mode. A recent update fixed some of the issues with the first version, giving you another reason why you should definitely pick up this game while it’s on sale.

The App Store is known for its sales, and just like December and the holiday discount, February is no different, at least for London UK-based mobile development studio Origin8. Developer of “The Sentinel” series, Origin8 have announced “February Freebie Fever,” a sale which will see the company drop the price to FREE on one of it’s App Store hits. Every Friday in the month of February, Origin8 will make one of their App Store titles absolutely free for the busy weekend period.
The sale comes as Sentinel: Mars Defense is about to turn a year old on the 19th February. The sale has already started with Car Mania becoming free last Friday up until today. Details of future weekend deals will be announced via the company’s various social networking accounts on the day of the sale.

Classics is an extremely impressive book library for your iPod Touch and iPhone.
Classics is streamlined, quick, and doesn’t lag, unlike many other book apps. The library to choose from is pretty unique, ranging from The Call of the Wild to The Art of War, and the selection is pretty beefy, clocking in about 20 full-length works.
The books are a joy to flip through, and the app has a set of rather neat features (bookmarks, reading multiple books at once) that set it apart from other mobile bookshelves.
Andrew Kaz and Phill Ryu created an impressive app that’s already a favorite in the app store, and is a fantastic deal right now.

Heavy Crossbow II is on sale for free- normally more expensive
Heavy Crossbow II is a neat strategy game that combines castle defense, RPG – style weapon leveling, zombies, one of those iPhone gun apps, and firing a big freaking crossbow.
The main twist to the game comes from actually having to drag back the string on the crossbow or reload a shotgun, which, I suppose, is more work than actually pushing a ’shoot’ button of some sort.
The controls occasionally get a bit wonky and unresponsive, but I can’t expect to shoot zombies without having my giant crossbow malfunction once and a while. Occasionally the controls would stiffen up, leading a parade of marauding zombies into the castle and me back to the beginning of the level.
For those who are a fan of the castle defending style, ByGames provides some fresh nourishment and quite a bit of zombie-thrashing potential in this game.
