20 Million Miles More (Free)
REVIEW—”Who knew humanity could depend on an 11-year-old?”
20 Million Miles More is a fascinating book. For starters, as a science fiction book that mimics a comic, colorist, Joey Campos, and penciler, Alex Garcia do an amazing job with the colors, and details that make sci-fi epics a transcendent experience. Also, if we are paying attention to details, I enjoyed that the words did not interfere with the overall flow of the book. In addition, I think there is something to be said for the fact the idea that comic books or books that mimic them might be easier to digest in the smaller electronic form of an iPod or iPhone, which is generally the opposite feeling I have towards textbooks or long text pieces I have to read for work or class.
Attention to detail is amazing in this book, and the story does keep your attention. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the story of a child or adolescent saving the world had been done again in, oh I dunno, Transformers and Transformers 2. Especially since we are now dealing with aliens and other intergalactic creatures. I can’t help but think that 20 Million Miles More is based loosely on a spin-off of the silver screen blockbuster.
20 Million Miles More is certainly not a waste of time. There’s always a different way to read, see or hear a story. Many might argue that some stories are better told a second time around with some variation. You know, variety is the spice of life. So from an artistic angle in tune with the connection of content, the book is great and I would definitely recommend it to those sci-fi lovers. I would not, however, recommend it for people that don’t enjoy ongoing series, as this is one, or people that dislike stories that mimic each other in big or small ways.
