Review – “Keep prying eyes away from your important files!”

iDiscrete 1 208x300 iDiscrete iPhone App ReviewWhether you are working with top secret documents, or you just want to keep sales figures or private files safe, iDiscrete is an extremely useful app! The basic idea of iDiscrete is that most people will not even know what it is when they see it. You actually access the app by entering in a code using the hidden buttons on the “loading” screen.

When you open up iDiscrete for the firstiDiscrete 2 208x300 iDiscrete iPhone App Reviewtime it tells you that you should read the tutorial information under the “settings” area of the app. While the information there is good, I didn’t really need most of it to figure the app out myself.

The first thing you’ll want to do when you open the app is set the security settings by touching the “Settings” button in the upper right corner and then touching “Protection Settings.” Once you enable protection you’ll need to set up your “Touch Sequence,” how long the app gives you to enter it and a “Reset Code.”

Once you have set up your security options when you open the app you’ll be greeted by a “Loading” screen. It’s at this screen that you enter in your “Touch Sequence” to open up the actual app. If you don’t enter the sequence in the time limit that you selected you’ll be taken to a screen titled “My Notes.” If for some reason you forget or cannot get your iDiscrete 3 208x300 iDiscrete iPhone App Reviewtouch sequence to work all you have to do to reset your security settings is enter in the “Reset Code” that you have into the text box on this page.

The interface of the app itself is much like other file sharing apps that I have seen in the past. By default you have three different folders: iDiscrete 4 208x300 iDiscrete iPhone App Review“Images,” “Video,” and “Text.” You can modify these folders or add files or folders to the main folder by touching the button in the upper left corner.

Adding pictures and video can be done from the media in your camera roll, or you can also upload media from your computer via a simple web browser interface. You can also upload a variety of different types of documents to the app as well. The app supports all the formats you would expect from PDF and DOC files to just plain text. Unfortunately the only types of documents that you can edit within this app are paling text files.

The speed and ease of use are what really separate iDiscrete from a lot of other apps like it. It’s creative use of a “Loading” screen to log in to the app will also keep a lot of people from even attempting to gain access to this app. It also helps make logging into the app much quicker that other more traditional methods, as you’ll see in the embedded video below.

Whether you have personal reasons for keeping certain things safe on your phone, or you have professional interest in documents that you need to have on you all of the time, iDiscrete is a great solution! That, coupled with the fact that it’s available for just $1.99 will make this app a real must have for a lot of people. So what are you waiting for? Check out iDiscrete today and start protecting your documents!

KamAlert turns your device into a mobile security system! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Post image for KamAlert turns your device into a mobile security system!

Mobile Revolution in Personal Security

With the KamAlert iPhone application, iPhone users can have peace of mind, security and personal safety at all times, everywhere they go. This clever piece of software turns a mobile phone into a totally autonomous camera surveillance and Personal Alarm System and will send SMS texts, emails and photos if the user is in trouble.

There are two key features of this software:

  1. Surveillance mode to detect movement and take photos of intruders
  2. Two Help Buttons which can be pressed in case of either a medical emergency or if the user is in personal danger to alert the authorities

Surveillance Mode

KamAlert is the only iPhone application with a surveillance mode which converts an iPhone into a camera surveillance system. When the surveillance mode has been set, the phone will detect any continuous motion or change in light and immediately takes photos of the intruder(s). Once the photos have been taken, it sequentially sends SMS text messages, and photos via emails to the programmed contacts.

This is an inexpensive product which can be used to temporarily monitor an unoccupied property, an office with sensitive information stored in it, a hotel room, or even a room in a house which should not be entered, in place of a costly security system.

Emergency Help Button

The second useful feature of this application are the panic buttons. These can be set to quickly get help if there is a medical emergency, or the user is in personal danger from an attack or mugging. This application will give peace of mind for lone people in threatening situations, people with known health conditions who are concerned about leaving the house alone and parents who want to know that their children can easily get help should there be a problem.

To set this function, simply press either the Medical Emergency or Personal Danger Buttons to convert the phone screen to a “Help Button”. This button, if touched, will send SMS messages and emails including the exact GPS location of the user to the contacts entered into the Settings. There is a choice of up to three contacts for each of the Medical and Personal Danger modes. Selected contacts can include the ambulance service or police.

Developing KamAlert

The founding partners of KamAlert come from a background in the security business and identified a hole in the market for a mobile, easy to use and inexpensive solution to personal security. Randolph von Gans, Inventor of KamAlert, explains;

“There are some excellent security products on the market, but they are designed to either be fixed to a particular property or simply to sound an alarm if the user is in danger. With the development of Smart Phones, we saw an opportunity to produce a low cost and easy to use product which is totally flexible. KamAlert can be used in several different ways to suit the user’s needs. For instance, it can give users an added level of protection walking home alone, or be used to monitor your valuable possessions at home, in the office or on holiday.

The iPhone is an excellent platform for this security system and the programme has been developed to be intuitive and easy to use, even in the most difficult situations. It is being sold for less than 4€ via the iPhone application store, so this personal security system is open to everyone with an iPhone.”

The KamAlert is available for sale on the iPhone application store priced at just 3.99€. The developers of this product believe that KamAlert will be opening up surveillance and personal security systems to all, and will benefit thousands of iPhone users. For more information visit www.kamalert.com, email info@kamalert.com or view the introductory video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXTbpJt7nn8) for an overview of the key features.

Using KamAlert

There are some key applications where KamAlert can be used particularly effectively:

  • Walking alone at night – If you feel threatened whilst you are walking alone, then you can get the application ready with the help button showing and keep it in your pocket. This means that if someone does approach you, then you can hit the help button straight-away and inform your contact numbers that you are in danger. The phone can also sound an alarm to frighten the attacker away before you contact the emergency services.
  • Medical emergency – If you have a health complaint or should a medical emergency occur whilst you are on your own, you can use KamAlert to contact the emergency services and your loved ones to ensure help comes quickly. Simply load the application and click on the medical alert button to contact your pre-programmed contacts, which could include your doctor or hospital. The iPhone will also provide your exact GPS co-ordinates so you will be found easily.
  • Monitoring an empty property or room – If you have to leave a property or office unattended for short periods and want to ensure there are no unwelcome visitors, all you have to do is set up your phone in a good location. Set the KamAlert surveillance mode and once you have left the room, the surveillance function will be activated and any motion will trigger the phone to take images and send them to your programmed contacts by email or SMS. You can elect to have an alarm siren on, to scare-off intruders, or turn off this function to ensure you are able to alert the authorities whilst they are still in the premises.
  • Security on holiday – It can be very difficult to protect your belongings and even your family when on holiday in rented accommodation or hotel rooms without security systems. Leaving valuables and passports unattended can be a great cause for concern, which can be overcome by using your iPhone with the KamAlert Surveillance System to monitor the room.
If you go out for the day, or even just to a restaurant, you can get the application to text your partner’s phone, the hotel concierge or property management company if anyone enters your property. This can also be used effectively once the children are in bed to make sure no one enters the room and the children do not leave the room. This makes a handy alternative to bringing a baby monitor.
  • Caring for others – Carers of children, the elderly and disabled need to be able to contact the emergency services, management or parents should anything happen. The Help Button on the KamAlert is an excellent way to ensure that Carers can get help at the touch of a button, no matter where they are.

LockBox Pro is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: GEE! Technologies LLC
Price: $2.99
Version Reviewed: 1.2

Controls Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
iPhone Integration Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

I rely on my iPhone for everything. When I’m on the road, my iPhone replaces my laptop. Subsequently, my iPhone contains most, if not all, of my data-sensitive information, personal and business.

As a result, the need for a private, secure data storage app presented itself out of necessity. Prior to my iPhone, I used a Blackberry that came with a standard “Password Keeper” application, made specifically for entering/storing sensitive data, such as passwords, credit card numbers, bank accounts, pin numbers, private notes, and any other private/ personal information. I loved the applications simplicity and sorely missed it when I made the transition to my iPhone.

As a result, I tried several data storage apps in the past, all offering a plethora of bells and whistles; most of which I don’t need/use. After repeatedly entering all my data into a new app time and again, only to have to revert to another app for one reason or another, I finally settled on using LockBox Pro.

LockBox Pro is a simple, straightforward application that executes as advertised, without all the unnecessary features (multiple predefined forms/categories, custom icons, customizable categories, integration with other services, etc.) and desk-top companion modules. Priced near the middle of the data storage app spectrum at $2.99, it also offers a “lite” version, aptly titled “LockBox.” LockBox is ad-supported, lacks bulk data importing and has limited data-entry fields (sub-fields are limited to two fields per entry).

LockBox Pro offers basic features, including strong security (data is secured via Apple’s Keychain, which utilizes 3DES encryption for high security), the flexibility to add as many fields as you like to each entry, the ability to rearrange and delete items in your list and the ability to import/export data from your computer into LockBox Pro (and visa-versa) using WiFi.

Upon opening LockBox, the user is asked to enter a 4-digit code:
photo1

After entering the code, the application “opens” to it’s main menu interface, which lists all entries in (unsorted or in alphabetical order, depending on the user):

photo6

This interface is straightforward, user-friendly and easy to use, offering 4 options: Edit, Add, Import/Export Data and Un/Auto-sort.

Edit and Add allow you to enter and change or modify new/existing entries. Each entry has a Title, Information section allowing you to input as many rows of data you need, a Category section containing 6 preset options and a Notes/Additional Info section, again with multiple data-entry fields:

photo3
photo8
photo7

Entering and modifying data is simple and straightforward. LockBox Pro is basic and lacks many advanced features of it’s more expensive counterparts.

Importing/Exporting data is also easy. Users simply enter an IP address into their browser to import, export and back-up data over WiFi, LockBox Pro lists its contents, which can then be pasted into a word processing file for storage. I was able to do so using Windows Notepad and Wordpad, but encountered problems using Microsoft Word.

And that’s LockBox Pro in a nutshell. It’s a basic, “no-frills” data storage application that I’ve found to be adequate, reliable and easy to use. Its simplicity is what makes it attractive, but at the same time prevents it from performing those advanced features found in similar applications. If you’re looking for a solid, basic data-protection app, LockBox Pro is a viable contender.

MobiScope: Spy live cams – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

iPhone App Review - Mobiscope icon

MobiScope: Spy live cams ($0.99)

Version – 1.2

REVIEW – “An great app for people who take their security seriously!”

Whether you are a business owner, or if you just like to keep an eye on your house while you’re away, MobiScope: Spy live cams, is an app that will allow you to keepiPhone App Review - Mobiscope 1 tabs on things with your mobile device!  Not only can you view one security camera with this app, but you can actually view multiple cams at the same time over a wifi network or over the standard cell phone network!

When you open up MobiScope for the first time you will be asked if you want to add a web/network camera to your camera list.  If you choose not to set one up you will simply be shown a list of “public” camera’s that you can view.  You can also choose to not see this message at startup ever again by toggling the “Do not ask me again button.  I browsed through iPhone App Review - Mobiscope 2this list pretty thoroughly and while the majority of them are not much to look at, there are a few that are pretty cool to be able to check in on.

One thing to note is that if you are expecting to be able to quickly set this up to use your laptop’s built in webcam you are probably mistaking the purpose of this app.  It will require quite a bit of setup and knowhow to get a regular computer cam hooked up and running; however, if you have a camera with its own IP address and you know its basic information (make, model, etc.)  then setup is fairly quick and painless.

Once you set up your camera’s you can iPhone App Review - Mobiscope 3view them at any time by selecting them from the “My Cameras” page.  If you want to you can also group cams together so that they can be viewed all at the same time.  The simple list layout makes it extremely easy to manage multiple cams, and camera setup was pretty painless because of how many predetermined profiles are included in this app.

iPhone App Review - Mobiscope 4Not being a huge security person myself, my favorite feature of this app were the “Public Cameras.”  This area will allow you to view security cameras in all kinds of locations from Niagra Falls to the White House!  It is important to mention that these feeds will not be live video and the reason for this is that they are just security cameras streaming on the net and iPhone App Review - Mobiscope 5so there will be a lot fewer “frames” sent than what you see in a live video.

In summary this app offers a little something for everyone.  For the security guru there is a highly customizable interface that allows you to view your cameras either one at a time or in groups.  For the average user there is a list of cameras from all around the world that you can use to see what the weather is like and what is going on in specific locations.  At just $0.99 this app is worth it in my opinion whether you find it to be useful or even if it is just a quick diversion!

iPhone App Review: iDistress is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

iDistress

An emergency is a very confusing and scary time. The last thing that a person should be, in an emergency, is unprepared. iDistress is an application that helps a person in an emergency get help from the people they need the most. Their description says that this is an app that they “hope you never have to use” but in the case that you do need to use it, you are well prepared. When activated, iDistress calls the local emergency number, (wherever you are, world wide) and sends SMS and email to three people on your contact list that you choose. It sends a message and GPS of where you are located to those people.

iDistress Pros:

iDistress is an app that disperses information to all the right people at the same time notifying them that there is a n emergency situation. If you are walking alone around your neighborhood, have the app open and ready to simply slide to activate. The fact that it is as simple as, sliding to activate, makes this an invaluable app to have if you travel overseas where the emergency number is not always 911. It will get the emergency number based on your location. It’s impossible to make something too simple to use in any emergency situation.

iDistress Cons:

This app would benefit from being able to add as many people from your contact list as possible. The more that people know what is going on, the best chance that someone can get to you faster or know more information about your situation. This, in no way, can shadow the importance of having an app like this available to you.

You don’t always have a need for an app like this, but I would not like to be caught with out it. I will personally put this app on my wife’s device and have her use it when she is in an uncomfortable situation( so will I). You can never have enough security to protect a life and it is well worth the money paid.
iDistress

Pros:

- Makes emergencies easy to report
- Provides security to an unsecured situation
- Easy to use
- Sends messages to three people form your contact list.
- Finds and contacts emergency contact information based on GPS

Cons:

- Only allows for three people to be notified of its activation and your whereabouts.

I happily give this iDistress a 9/10 for a great concept and good design.
