If you've found yourself excited by all the coverage of Galaxy on Fire 2 lately between the initial set of screenshots, the WWDC hands-on, the teaser trailer, and finally the full trailer, this is a freebie you won't want to miss. Galaxy on Fire 3D was released in early 2009, and includes over 20 hours of space shootin' and tradin' gameplay. It feels a little dated compared to more recent shooters, but that doesn't make the game any less fun to play through.
Galaxy on Fire 2 is scheduled for release this October, and while I doubt that playing through the first one will be at all required to enjoy the second… There's no reason not to give this game a try, especially while it's free.

John Kooistra originally released Blue Defense! [$1.99] back in late 2008 and the game was both well received by our forum members as well as in our actual review. Since then, Kooistra formed Cat In a Box Games which went on to develop both Red Conquest! [$3.99] and Fastar! [$1.99], two games we also enjoyed quite a bit. Their next project was revealed this afternoon, a sequel to Blue Defense!, entitled Blue Defense: Second Wave!.
The Second Wave will be hitting the App Store on September 30th and is absolutely packed with content including 74 different mode-based leaderboards, Retina Display graphics, new enemies, and new controls. This is a sequel I can't wait to play, and we'll post a review as soon as we get our hands on the game.

Gameloft has released a spate of new trailers and screenshots for upcoming sequels to its hit App Store titles Modern Combat: Sandstorm, Dungeon Hunter, and Gangstar: West Coast Hustle.
Gangstar: Miami Vindication, pictured above, takes Gameloft’s Grand Theft Auto-cloning franchise to the streets, beaches, and swamps of Miami. The game is set to launch in the App Store next week, offering players an open-world adventure featuring improved AI, more vehicles, and over 70 missions.
Dungeon Hunter II sets its sights on fans of Blizzard’s Diablo series, boasting similar loot-based dungeon-crawling gameplay. The sequel will include both Game Center and Gameloft Live support for multiplayer dungeon raids upon its release this summer.
Finally, Gameloft’s popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare-like Modern Combat: Sandstorm is set to see a sequel in Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus. Few details have been revealed so far, but players can likely expect an updated graphics engine and refined controls when Black Pegasus launches later this year.
