Healthy Food Finder by Caloricious is exactly what its name implies: a shopping app that focuses on healthy foods. If a product is organic, low-fat, sugar-free, or otherwise an alternative to what you might typically choose in a supermarket, it may be found in this app.
The Healthy Food Finder works in two ways. First, it is a shopping list maker; second, it is an in-the-store decision-maker. In both cases, what it offers to you is access to nutritional information, along with an evaluation of the good and bad points about the specific item. While it presents everything in a clean, readable manner with pictures of most products, it does rely in part on user-generated content, and some of the entries were incomplete. Note to iPod users: the app requires an Internet connection to work, so if you’re in the store, you’ll want to have a pre-made list with you.
Due to its focus on healthy foods, it is not a robust shopping database. For example, when searching for jarred spaghetti sauce, there’s not a Ragu nor a Prego to be found. Hunts spaghetti sauce makes it in there; but then Hunt’s recently announced that they were only using sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, in their products. Thus, foods with certain ingredients are excluded by default — in this case, HFCS, but after a few more searches it seems that things like traditional white flour and lots of artificial preservatives are also out .
Meat is free-range; bread is organic; granola is gluten-free. This means that the app will probably be more useful to you if you have access to a Whole Foods or other alternative supermarket.
The app itself functions as advertised. You can search for ingredients, make a shopping list, check food labels, even rate and review the food you buy. There’s also Facebook integration for sharing your shopping with your friends. The interface is a little stylized to match the Caloricious website, but otherwise it’s pretty standard tap-and-swipe iOS fare.
If you’re pursuing one of the eating philosophies championed by the app, Healthy Food Finder by Caloricious could very well be the app for you. It will certainly point you to product lines you might never have heard of before … albeit product lines that you will probably have to seek out a Trader Joes to purchase. And if you’re a user of their website, it’s certainly something you’ll want to have on the go.

Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer – iPhone App Review
Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer ($0.99)
Version – 1.1
Review – “A great app for homebuyers and homeowners looking to refinance!”
Whether you’re looking to buy a new house, or you’re looking at refinancing a property, wouldn’t it be great to be able to figure out what a loan would look like anywhere on your phone? Well now you can
with a $0.99 app called “Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer” for the iOS!
The app itself is pretty simple. To calculate the costs of a loan just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen and fill out the information that you see on the screen.
You’ll need to enter the purchase amount, down payment, interest rate, loan term, etc., and then touch the “Calculate” button in the upper right corner of the screen to figure out the costs associated with the proposed loan.
In addition to calculating the actual mortgage cost, you can also add in your escrow as well to get a more accurate number. To do that just touch the “Add Escrow Cost” button at the bottom of the loan information screen. You can then enter in each cost that is a part of your escrow individually, or you can add the total amount of your current escrow if you choose.
The loan breakdown that you get once you’ve calculated it offers a variety of interesting information. It
calculates the total interest that you’ll pay on the loan, the total amount that you will pay on the loan if it goes as scheduled, and a breakdown of how much you will pay each month towards
the interest and principal of the loan!
Another great feature of the app is the ability to generate PDF’s of the loan information and email them to anyone! To do this just touch the “Email PDF” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll get the choice of whether or not to include the amortization schedule or not, and then you’ll be taken directly to a form email with the PDF attached to it.
My personal experience with this app is that it made it very easy to get quick figures on what a loan will cost you. Unfortunately what it does not have is a way to calculate what it will cost you to refinance a loan. With that said, the app is only $0.99, and the PDF email feature is a great way to share loan figures with people while on the go. I’d encourage you to head to app store and check it out for yourself today!

Toogo – iPhone App Review
Toogo – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Toogo
Version 1.1
I have looked through many (many!) to do lists on the App Store, trying to find a one size fits all app for what I need. I don’t have a problem making my todo list .. I have a problem remembering to pull my list up when I’m near my errands!
Guess what .. there’s now an app for that! Enters Toogo. ..
Developed by Benjamin Nelson, this app is simple and straightforward, but super handy when it comes to reminding you of your daily errands. In a nutshell this app gives you the ability to create location – based to dos .. and then reminds you of your errands when you are near them. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
When you first open the application it defaults to the map screen, which looks similar to an application like Google Maps.
At the top you’ll see Settings, where you can change the map view and even enable the multi-tasking option for the application (when applicable on your device). At the bottom left you’ll see an icon that you will press to find your location (again on applicable devices). In the middle you can toggle between a Map View of your to dos, or a List View. At the bottom right hand side you’ll see the ‘+’ button, which is how you add a new location.
By default your map is empty aside from your current location marking. Pressing the ‘+’ button will take you to the screen where you can add new to do. It asks you for a Name (which will show up on either the list or the map), Location, and a location radius to which you should be notified (either 1/2, 1, 2, 5, or 10 miles).
By clicking the Location button it will default to your current location (if known), however you can either type in an address at the top or you can simply drag the little pin to the location you want it to be at.
(***NOTE .. this part appears to only work when multi-tasking is ENABLED on an iPhone that supports it***) Now comes the fun part. After giving your to do a name, location, and notification radius it is added to your list. When you are driving along and move within your specified radius a popup will appear and remind you of your errand. How handy is that?!?!
My only concern with this app is that it may be battery draining, since it appears to leave the GPS option on your phone active the entire time, through multi-tasking. However I have not used it long enough to confirm or deny this… but I can note a swifter decrease in battery usage and my phone, when not is use, feels warmer than it did before using this app.
If you have a device that can fully support the ability of this app I’d suggest heading over to the App Store now and grabbing your copy at the bargain price of $0.99. While I am thinking it may use a little more battery than your phone sitting idle it may be a minimal tradeoff to how handy this app can be for your every day errands.
If you’re interested in checking out a demo video, made by the developer, head on over to his website.
Enjoy!

What Others Are Saying About Acme Lists

The only list app I’m keeping (5 of 5)
by Cloudcastles (United States)
I love this list app so much I want to put it on my home screen. But I hate the icon, so it has to go on my second screen. Good as it already is, this app would be better if we could add a to-do list to a specific date, and also have the option of sorting lists according to the dates. A search function might be a useful addition too.
WONDERFUL! (5 of 5)
by Mac100 (United States)
This is a fantastic app! I was a little afraid to upgrade because I liked it so much before, but the upgrades age great. I love how you can ’scratch’ items off so easily and then unscratch them off so easily. I have several lists, but I have one list I use over and over each day. This program is WONDERFUL and easy to use. The new options are great and I’m anxious to send a list to another ipod owner who I will encourage to get this program. The only suggestion I have would be to add some little notation of some kind so that if your list exceeds the viewable area, you will be reminded that there is more to view. Thank you for this great app!
Very useful (5 of 5)
by Itub (Australia)
The web server is the best feature. Desktop keyboards are faster than iphone. And a list of items is just one block of text.

Grocery iQ – iPhone App Review
Grocery iQ – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Grocery iQ – (Free)
Version 2.01
REVIEW – “An extensive grocery shopping app that ensures all your favorite items are included.”
I have gone through a few shopping list apps and some of them started out great and ended terrible, while others started out terrible and didn’t get too much better. Grocery iQ combines the technology of RedLaser with the ease of a simple shopping list app.
Now this app works basically like every other shopping list app out there when you first look at it. You simply create a new list and then start adding what you need. But that’s when things start to get interesting, the sheer number of items that are ready for you to add is astounding. There is no more having to create items because just about everything you could possibly imagine is already loaded into the app, this even includes brands and flavors. (Ex. Breyer’s Ice Cream, chocolate chip cookie dough, it’s there!)
Even better if you are at the store or even at home and want to add something to the list, simply use the barcode scanner to have that item automatically added to your list. This feature is just fun to play around with and it actually works the way it says.
But it’s the small touches that really make this app shine as above and beyond. One of my favorites is the ability to tag things that I buy often so that they are automatically added to my shopping list. No more forgetting the milk, the eggs or even the whole wheat bread, because it is always on the list.
I also like the feature that you can send your shopping list to integrate with anyone else who has the app as well, this works much better than other apps I have seen and that’s great because when you’re pregnant it’s nice to have my husband pick up things on his way home from work instead of having to run out and get them myself.
Like other shopping list apps you can put things into categories so that you can easily go through your list as you make your way through the store and this can be a real time saver. You can also create special lists for different stores. You can even make store notations on individual items so you never forget who stocks your favorite cereal or who has the best price on Hot Pockets.
Now this app might not have the exact ease of use of some of the other apps but for me the extra features really win out. I love the list integration and the fact that sending the list to my husband does not mean a basic text email.
The app is free for the month of April so give it a try and see for yourself how this shopping list app matches up.

TapScanner – iPhone App Review
TapScanner – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
TapScanner ($1.99)
Version – 1.0
REVIEW – “Check prices and share products with your friends with TapScanner!”
If you’re a regular at AppShouter you’ve probably noticed that I’ve already reviewed several bar scanning apps in the past. So what, you might ask, is different about TapScanner? Well I’m here to tell you that it’s all about the networking! While RedLaser has already established itself as a leader in this category of apps,
TapScanner is attempting to take that winning formula and add both a new interface and an easy way to interact with some popular social networks!
One of the things that I was impressed with is that the interface of this app is extremely polished for a newly released app. The graphics are all simple and yet at the same time very smooth looking. When you open this app up for the first time you will be asked to register with the TapBase website. Some may see this as an intrusion of privacy but what it’s for is the social aspect of the app, and all
they ask is for an email address and password.
Once you are registered you’re ready to start scanning things. The main screen that you start at has three buttons along the top of the screen, two buttons in the center and two small buttons in the bottom right corner. To scan a barcode all you have to do is touch the “Scan” button on the right side of the screen. The scanner itself works extremely well. I did not have any trouble whatsoever scanning barcodes as long as they were of the standard type.
If you find the scanner cumbersome or you have an iPod touch and have no camera you can also manually enter barcodes by touching the “Tap” button just to the left of the Scan button. However you choose to enter the barcode, once you have one entered it will quickly search an internet database for that particular bar code and then display the results on the screen. Unfortunately this is one area that this app seems to have difficulty with. I scanned a variety of objects that I had laying
around the house and many of them did not show up displaying a “ERROR: NOT FOUND” message.
With that said, the company behind this app has not even quite published their website yet so I’m betting that the amount of barcodes that read properly will increase greatly with time. Assuming this is the case, the social features of this app are really quite nice. Not only can you quickly and easily post an item to your
facebook or twitter, but you can also email it to your friends! This app also keeps a list of all the products that you have shared in any manner on the “Shares” screen of this app. This allows you to quickly and easily review a product repeatedly to different people!
So in summary I’d have to say that this app has absolutely huge potential! The interface, both for browsing products that you have found and for scanning and entering barcodes, is one of the slickest that I have seen in the App Store. If the developer continues to improve its database of items this could in time become the app to beat in this category, and at the very least it is worth an honorable mention for it’s great interface! If you are a social network junkie, and you like to shop, this is an app that you just can’t afford to pass up! So what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and download TapScanner today!

Newegg Mobile – iPhone App Review
Newegg Mobile – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website
Newegg Mobile (Free)
Version – 1.0.0
REVIEW – “Don’t waste time shopping for deals, let them come to you!”
Do you like shopping for electronics online? If you do, you’ll know that while there are lot of good websites out there, that Newegg.com come is one of the more reputable and inexpensive options available. One of the best features of their website is their “Daily Deals” that
offers all kinds of great deals that are constantly changing. Well now you can easily check them out directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch with Newegg Mobile!
When you open up this app the first thing you see is the “Home” screen. The interface of this screen is very nice. At the top of the screen you see the current “Shell Shocker” that is available. If you’re not familiar with the Newegg website the Shell Shocker is an abnormally good deal on a specific product. Newegg negotiates bulk pricing on a different item like this every day!

Below the “Shell Shocker” is a list of the current “Daily Deals.” You can scroll through the pictures of all these items by dragging them left or right. They all scroll across the screen slowly even if you don’t touch them though. To see a complete list of the daily deals all you have to do is touch the arrow to the right of them. This will bring them up with pictures, titles, and prices so you can get a better idea of what deals are available.
The final option from the home screen is a button that will take you to a page of items that are currently shipping free from Newegg! The list is formatted in basically the same way as
the “Daily Deals” list, making it easy to quickly find a great deal! The best part of this app is how easy it is to purchase items if you find what you want! If you already have an account with Newegg you don’t need to enter any of your purchase information, you’ll just need to confirm the little security number on the back of your card.

The one downfall of this app is that there is not really a way to just browse through items. With that said, I can’t really imagine myself even wanting to just browse a site like Newegg on my phone. If all you’re looking for is a specific item though there is a “Search” option in the menu at the bottom of the screen that works pretty well.
If you’re the kind of person that enjoys finding a good deal and you’re partial to electronics, this is an app that you need to have! The interface is simple enough that it makes it worthwhile to browse Newegg from your mobile device. So what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and download Newegg Mobile from the App Store today!
