“To escape the frustration of normal games and every day life. No point, just like your life” -Evil mykall, iTunes

Some games are created to challenge you in one way or another. Some games have you shoot things, some games have you race things, and some games have you outsmart things, but Kometen is not that kind of game. Obviously inspired by the randomness that is Katamari, Kometen subscribes to the eastern way of thought in that games do not need to have a point, they only need to look pretty and be able to be played for as long as someone can sit down.

Kometen has a simple premise. You are a comet, and you like to eat things and go fast. You fly around the galaxy searching for planets while eating things orbiting planets so you can use your speed boost. To fly, you have to attach yourself to planets gravitational fields by clicking on the planet. After spinning around the planet for a bit and gaining speed, you swipe the screen to let go and you race off to the next planet.

After spinning around things, eating space junk, using speed boosts, and discovering planets for awhile, you are done. There is no more game to play, you just float along through the galaxy seeing how fast you can go during speed boosts. There is obviously a certain percentage of population that has reached some sort of nirvana that can let them play this for hours on end. These are the same people that enjoy playing Pocket God for hours at a time, as well as Nobi Nobi Boy.

The shining beacon for this app is its style. Everything is very nicely hand drawn (or hand made) with rich colors and fun effects. Your comet, while just a comet, has an expression filled face that changes depending on if he is eating, moving, not moving, and moving in hyper speed. The game deserves huge style points for looking so darn good, but I’m not sure if it is enough.

Like the time wasting app hall of fame games before it, there really isn’t much to do. The problem with Kometen is that there is really nothing to do. The game needs more variety to keep it worth playing for more than 10 minutes. The is only so much flying around you can do without longing for something that pays you back with something. I’d love to see some more effects drawn in for doing special things, or even some kind of basic mission added just to keep me excited.

I really want Kometen to succeed for the sole reason that it is extremely pretty. My hope is that I will be rewarded for my purchase with some sort of update package a la Pocket God, but I fear that I won’t. In its current state, it would be hard for me to advise getting this game if you are expecting a game of any kind. If you aren’t a gamer though and just want something pretty to pass the time, Kometen might be right up your alley.

Today ToDo Pro – Unique ToDo Application is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Available In: App Store       Price: $3.99

Today ToDo Pro Doug recorded this review a couple days ago (I’m sure why he didn’t post it… probably because of the light in the background that I forgot to turn off!). Either way, I really like Today ToDo Pro so I thought I would pass it along. I am constantly on the quest for the perfect todo app and this one really sticks out among the rest. The interface is simple and very unique, it has the features I’m looking for in a todo app and it is well designed. Check out Doug’s video review below.

Today ToDo Pro

App Store Description:

Act without doing, manage without effort

Today easily manages your tasks. No extra buttons, no myriad of taps to add a simple task.
Don’t be fooled by Today’s appereance. Today looks simple yet it offers many features. Most other todo apps are either cram-full with features and confusing or so stripped-down that even the built-in notes app can do more. Today’s main focus is to provide the really important features while finding the balance between usefulness and ease of use.
The built-in web server allows you to also manage your tasks from the browser on your computer!

Features:
- Very innovative and intuitive interface
- Built-in web server that allows the management of the todos via your browser on the desktop
- Quickly create todos by turning the device 90°
- Save time with recurring tasks that are created automatically after your specified amount of time
- Work faster with well-known control patterns (like swipe to delete)
- Change the order of the tasks in the way that makes most sense to you by double tapping the sun
- Start fresh every day with an empty list and access your past todos by dragging the sun to the right
- Set priorities for tasks to easily spot the todos you have to focus on first
- Group your tasks using lists and switch between these with style
- Encrypted backups
- Put your untimed todos on the someday list and get them out of sight
- Easily move your unfinished past todos to the main screen with a simple touch
- Icon badge showing the remaining todos
- Option to automatically carry over unfinished todos to your main view each new day
- Option to automatically sort tasks by priority

======================================
Upcoming features:
* iCal sync will be available with the upcoming iPhoneOS update

Retro Paddle is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

You have to respect the classics.

Retro Paddle is Richard Fennema’s tribute to Pong for the iPhone! Although insanely simplistic in nature, Retro Paddle serves more to remind to the world how far the gaming world has come since Pong’s console release in 1974 (roughly three years before home computers were available to the public). This ridiculously simple concept was something the world had never seen before: at home console gaming! Pong, with sales totaling over 40,000,000 in it’s first year, was a massive hit and the public ate it up. This simple game sparked a series of innovations that led to cartridge based gaming and the decision to port classics like Space Invaders from the arcade to the TV screen.

After the console gaming crash of 83′ and 84′, the general public avoided console gaming until gaming legends Nintendo and Sega hit the scene in the late 80’s with the NES and the SG-1000. From there, it’s all history and the world’s youth would never be the same because of it. In fact, Pong indirectly set in motion – albeit  an extremely indirect set of motions- a line of events that would ultimately lead to the creation of IAR and for that we pay tribute!  It’s hard to believe that the at home gaming phenomenon came with instructions that said: “Avoid missing ball for high score.”

Retro Paddle has the same basic rules. To win… you must not miss the ball. Simple and to the point. The only difference is that Retro Paddle has some cool new features; you can change the control settings from touch to tilt and adjust the difficulty! Not much in comparison to other games currently in the app store but enough to satisfy the retro gamer. So if you’re a nostalgic gamer like me, then chances are you’d probably enjoy Retro Paddle! You can purchase this game for $.99 in the app store.

Real gamers play Retro Paddle with the difficulty all the way up!
Personally, I think the tilt controls are better than the touch.
The fight is on!
The fight is still on!
Your score is on the left and the paddle you control is on top.

Doodle Cannon War is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Doodle Cannon Wars! Now with more vitamin D!

I’m going to start this review right off the bat by saying that I absolutely love Doodle Cannon War! I haven’t been this in engrossed in an iPhone game since I purchased Doodle Jump (a different game from a different developer) a couple months back. Anyone who’s ever played a video game can sense when a game just feels right when they play it. Doodle Cannon War has that tangible feel only a few games I’ve played on the iPhone have. The guys and gals at infiworks have truly created a game so fun and challenging that if it weren’t for the game crippling glitch in level nine, chances are, I probably would have bought it! I’ll tell you more about that later in the review.

The object of the game is to blow up the skulls in each level using the bombs in your cannon. It sounds simple but to get your bomb anywhere near the skulls in each level you’ll have to angle your cannon just right and make sure the power behind your shot doesn’t fire your bomb too hard or too soft. This requires a steady hand, logical thinking, and some luck. To get a good score you’ll have to blow up the skulls using the least amount of bombs in as little time as possible.

Like most games on the iPhone, Doodle Cannon Wars has a bit of a control problem. It only uses a single touch to control the power and angle of the cannon. This can be a bit of a pain when you’re trying really hard to get the angle just right because as long as your finger is pressed on the screen the power behind your shot will continue to go up. This means that you’ll have to quickly judge the angle and power when you’re taking a shot. For the sake of making the game less reliant on luck and more on skill, I think the game would benefit greatly from separating these two actions.

Of course, separating the angle control from the power control will do absolutely nothing as long as the glitch in level nine is still there crippling this game! As soon as level nine starts, the frame rate slows down to a crawl, making the game virtually unplayable. That’s over 40 levels of Doodle Cannon War that won’t be able to be played! I would wait until infiworks fixes this bug before purchasing this app.

A riveting menu screen! Now if only you could hear the awesome background music!
Sadly, level nine will be the farthest I will be able to get until the next update.
Maybe I'm just plain bad at this game but it took me over a hundred tries to beat this...
I pretty much owned this level
It's about as difficult as it looks... Only those blocks were moving when I was playing.

App Sale: TapTime is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

TapTime is on sale for free – normally $.99

The concept behind this game is nothing new and it’s not even all that interesting… tap on objects before they disappear from view, and don’t tap the one bad thing that will end your game instantly. The thing I love about this game, though, is the execution. The sound and graphics are both really well done and, overall, Andy Burke has put together a nice little time waster here.

TapTime is the kind of game that’s so basic a monkey could play it, but it’s also that very simplicity that will cause certain personality types to get hooked. The game also supports OpenFeint which is cool.

Grab this game while it’s free and give it a spin the next time you’re waiting at a bus stop, outside the principal’s office, or just completely bored out of your mind. It might surprise you.

SlidR is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

A take on a ‘sliding’ puzzle game, SlidR takes a photo, divides into square segments, and forces it upon you, the mighty adventurer, to slide the photo to correctness before the evil dragon* destroys your village and the helpless peasants.

The app has a slick, clean interface and a variety of high quality pics to choose from. An especially clever feature was the option to provide your own photos from your album or camera roll, as some pictures make a substantially more interesting puzzle than others.

For a dollar, this app is a worthy investment for those searching for a casual puzzler, something to idly whittle away battery life on your iPhone or iPod Touch. As an added bonus, a couple of codes were graciously provided by the dev, Critical Fever, so a few lucky ones can save a dollar and spent on something less epic.

*Dramatization. There is no dragon, evilness, villages or peasants. However, you are still a mighty adventurer. And you still get a picture of an elephant’s rear end, so that kind of makes up for it. I guess.

Vikings, attack!
Enough to stump the most hardened slidR veteran.
Our consolation prize. I named him Henry.
We may be an ultra-powerful app review site, but we still have no idea on how to get rid of this from our gallery.
