Upcoming App Chop Chop Soccer Looks Like Mobile Mario Strikers (And That’s A Good Thing) is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Ever since the start of the World Cup, we have seen a slew of soccer apps come out. Unfortunately, the majority of the apps are soccer simulations, leading to obvious limitations on the small iPhone screen. There’s just no good way to pack all of the complexities that soccer offers, from the moves to the different types of passes to the great shots… there just isn’t enough screen real estate for the needed buttons.

Instead of a traditional soccer game, Gamerizon has made a soccer game that looks like the iPhone version of Mario Strikers, just with simpler controls.

“There are no virtual pads or buttons. All that’s needed is one finger to control all offensive and defensive actions. To move, you just slide your finger on the screen. To pass, shoot or tackle, you just flick your finger in the direction you want your player or ball to go. That’s it! Those commands make Chop Chop Soccer™ the most intuitive soccer game ever created.”

Be sure to check out the video below, the game looks like a ton of fun.

Version – 1.0

Review – “Score the winning goal and be a Soccer Hero!”

Soccer Hero 2010 1 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App ReviewIf you like software you may already be familiar with the Facebook app Soccer Hero. Soccer Hero 2010 brings a port of this popular game to your iOS compatible device! In case you’re not familiar with it, the basic idea is that you get to take all of the closeSoccer Hero 2010 2 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Review shots and penalty shots in a game to try and win it.

The menu is pretty straightforward. There are a couple of buttons in the lower left corner that will allow you to set some Soccer Hero 2010 3 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewbasic options and learn how to play the game. If you touch the “Help” button you’ll find that there are three different types of shots that you can take in Soccer Hero. These shot types are Volleys, Turn & Shoot, and Penalties.

When you’re ready to get started just head back to the main menu and touch the “Play” button. You’ll be presented with 4 different game types. If this is your first time playing you’ll want to begin with the “Training” option. Training will allow you to practice each of the 3 different shots individually.

Once you get comfortable with all three different types of shots it’s time to start competing! Quick match will allow you to play one match at a time. Matches consist of a combination of randomly different shots strung together. The object is to try to get as many pointsSoccer Hero 2010 4 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewas possible. You will gain points for each goal you score, every shot you take that is aimed at the goal, and even a few points when you miss closely.

The next game mode is the “Tournament.” Tournament mode will take you through the process of competing in the World Cup! You’ll start out in a pool of four teams. In order to advance you have to score 20,000 points in just three games. As you advance further in the tournament you’ll have to earn a specific amount of points each round to go to the next round!

The final gameplay option is the Golden Boot. This mode is a place where you can compete with all of Soccer Hero 2010 5 300x200 Soccer Hero 2010 iPhone App Reviewyour Facebook friends. Once you log in to your Facebook account and select Golden Boot you’ll be taken to a high score list. This list will show the high scores of all your friends for the current week. To compete just touch the “PLAY” button in the lower right corner of the screen.

Some of my favorite things about this app are the very simple interface, and the social integration. With that said, it would definitely be nice to have some kind of local high score list as well. For just $0.99 though this game is definitely a lot of fun. Especially if you’re a fan of soccer this is an app you may not want to pass up. So what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and check it out for yourself today!

Get Table Football Action On Your iPhone With Foosball

Get Table Football Action On Your iPhone With Foosball is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

The World Cup may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep the FIFA fever alive.

Developed by Illusion Labs, Foosball is a table-top football (soccer) sim for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Featuring head-to-head action against the computer with 3 different difficulty levels as well as a multiplayer option (two people on the same device), Foosball is a great little pick-up-and-play game for fans of table football.

With full support for the iPhone 4 retina display with utilization of Open GL graphics, Foosball is easily the best looking game of Foos I’ve seen on the iPhone to date. Great game physics and realistic sound effects round out a solid package.

Foosball

Foosball is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later. *Foosball HD is also available for the iPad.

Soccer Superstars In-Depth Review

Soccer Superstars In-Depth Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Developer: Gamevil USA, Inc.
Price: $4.99
Version Reviewed: 1.2

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.13 out of 5 stars

I have a confession: I played soccer all throughout grade/high-school and loved it. But when it comes to just watching the game on TV, I can’t do it. Unless I’m in there, soccer is simply not exciting enough to hold my interest. The same holds true for hockey, although I’ve never played it. I just can’t get into watching it on TV.

I bring this up because the best, most addictive, sports games I’ve ever played were soccer (on the NES) and hockey (Sega). Remember the scene in Swingers when Sue and Trent (Vince Vaughn) were playing hockey on Sue’s Sega and fighting over Trent’s gloating/ability to make Wayne Gretzky’s head bleed at will? That scene was a perfect recreation of me and my friends on any given night during that game’s/console’s peak popularity. Not because we were “Super Fan number #99,” but because we loved playing the game.

Furthermore, while I’m not a fan of soccer, I am a fan of well-developed, fun, sports games and Soccer Superstars meets all the criteria possessed by its successful predecessors; and more.

Graphically, the game’s cartoon-anime stye actually adds a refreshing element to the game’s depth (not to mention the genre) that helps deflect the intimidation factor of typical technique-heavy sports games while appealing to players of all types and ages. But, not without a price. The game play’s depth, combined with the many on-screen elements, will no doubt initially confuse and/or frustrate players. However, thanks to the keen minds at Gamevil, who no doubt forecasted this phenomenon, the game features two modes of play: Semi-Auto, the default mode, where your players move automatically, allowing you to focus solely on passing, shooting, etc. and Manual, which allows you to control your players. In addition, the game contains a built-in interactive tutorial which, once viewed, will have you playing the game with ease in either mode.

Soccer Superstar’s sound track consists primarily of one catchy main menu track typical of what you would expect of a game with RPG features/elements. The game’s sound effects are well done: The cheers of the crowd give you the feel of playing in a packed stadium and executing offensive/defensive actions, such as kicking the ball, executing a tackle, etc. are crisp and integrate very well with all other elements of the game.

Game Modes

Soccer Superstars features 6 different modes of play:

  1. Cup Mode
    • Features five different championship cups in which players can compete to win.
    • Winning or placing 2nd or 3rd will earn you a trophy, which can be viewed in your trophy collection.
  2. Dramatic Mode
    • In Dramatic Mode, you can replay the greatest matches in history.
  3. Exhibition
    • Select a team and compete against any other team (70 total).
  4. My League
    • Consists of 33 matches spanning two tournaments: Gamevil League and the International Cup.
    • Allows players to develop their personal player (players begin as a forward in the first season) from a first-person viewpoint.
    • There are 33 matches in My League mode. Gamevil League and the International Cup are the main tournaments of the mode.
  5. Season Mode
    • Players are tasked with winning a championship playing as the manager of a team, through 13 seasons.
  6. Recent Match
    • Continue or resume a paused game/match.

On-Screen Display

Soccer Supertars’ control scheme consists of a virtual joystick, emblazoned with a transparent soccer ball logo and three buttons: A, B and S.

The top, center of the game play screen displays game/match time, the current score and playing teams.

The active player’s name, position and dash gauge are displayed to the left of the center display, while the same information for the opposing team is displayed to the right. The dash feature is used by holding down the virtual joystick or one of the three buttons, depending on the move being executed (offense and defense). Using the dash feature depletes the gauge and, once depleted, must be filled prior to using the feature again. Fouls and yellow cards are also displayed in these sections.

Active players are indicated with a blue arrow, which also shows the active player’s attacking/moving direction. The blue arrow also indicates the condition of your player and will change as the game progresses. A low condition will decrease the player’s abilities, e.g. dash feature, etc.

Open players eligible to receive a pass are represented by an orange triangle. Conversely, opposition players are represented by a cpu icon.

At the bottom of the screen is a mini-map of the game. A player’s team is shown in blue, while the opposition is indicated in red. The controlled player is represented by a yellow box and the ball is displayed by a white cross.

Controls

As stated above, Soccer Supertars’ control scheme consists of a virtual joystick, emblazoned with a transparent soccer ball logo and three buttons: A, B and S. In semi-auto mode, the virtual joystick, while present, isn’t used unless the player decides to override the mode and take control of a player using the joystick. Players can abandon the use of the joystick at any time, at which game play will resume in semi-auto mode. This feature gives players a great amount of control over the players on their team, allowing them to control players manually at will, while re-entering semi-auto mode by simply releasing the joystick.

The virtual joystick is used for manual dribbling (simply move in the direction you want to dribble). In semi-auto mode, players dribble automatically. Dashing is executed by holding the joystick down in the desired direction of movement.

The A and B buttons are used on offense/defense to pass and steal the ball from opposing players. Holding these buttons down will initiate a dash, causing the player to move faster (on defense) or pass a lob shot (on offense).

Super shots are executed with the s button. When a super shot is available/activated, the upper left screen will display/blink “super shoot.” The number of super shots are also displayed on the right of the blinking indicator. In order to execute a super shot, players need simply to tap and/or press and hold the S button, for stronger, faster shots.

On defense, players can steal the ball from their opponent two different ways: Chase the opposition by holding the A button down to apply pressure on the opponent to steal the ball. Simply catch up to your opponent and basically run into/over him while pressing A and that little orb of air is yours.

Players can also use the B button to execute a sliding tackle. Be careful though, as executing one wrong will result in a foul or card. Timing is key.

Super Players can launch a super shot by simply pressing S. When an open shot becomes available (to super and regular players) the S button will blink. The game begins with 4 super players (two of which are locked), each with different attributes and each possessing a different super shot.

During my time with this game, I found the virtual controls to be very responsive. Their placement did not interfere with or inhibit my game play; quite the opposite.

Player Attributes

A major feature of the game’s RPG element is the set of attributes assigned to players and the ability to increase these values, e.g. via training. Each player has four attributes, with values generally ranging from 300-700:

  1. Kick
  2. Speed
  3. Tech: Technical skill
  4. Stm: Stamina

Game Play

Prior to starting a game, players can manage several aspects of their team and play strategy, such as substituting players, viewing opposing team information/players, setting formations, tactics and offense/defense balance and general match settings, such as stadium selection, quarter length, difficulty mode, etc.

I must admit, when I first started playing Soccer Superstars, I was intimidated by it’s depth. However, after viewing the tutorial, I began playing and had no problems serving other teams.

The semi-auto option, combined with the ability to manually override a player, gives me a greater amount of control over players than what is offered in similar titles. In addition, the anime-style graphics lend themselves to a fun, satisfying game play experience; more so than other comparable titles. While Soccer Superstars’ feature-set is very deep, it’s developed in a straightforward, pick-up-and-play fashion, with the casual user in mind. The great thing about this is that it shouldn’t be a turn-off to hardcore soccer fans; rather, the game play should draw them.

Conclusion

Soccer Superstars is well developed, fun and challenging. The amount of control the developers at Gamevil give players over pretty much every aspect of the game, combined with the fun, arcade-style game play give it great replay value. In short, whether you’re a soccer fan or not, you’ll enjoy playing this game over and again. I certainly am.

I have to say, I for one am grateful that there is FINALLY a Zombie game on the app store. There are way too few titles available that star the world’s favorite undead flesh eaters. In case you missed the satire, I’ll point out that Zombies are an extremely overdone topic on the app store. That said, Pro Zombie Soccer has a pretty impressive enjoyment level, even if the storyline is a bit… off.

The storyline features a washed out soccer player who gets bitten by an all star soccer player recently turned into a zombie. Miraculously the skills of the zombie soccer player get transferred through the bite, and it’s up to the soon to be washed out zombie to take out as many flesh eaters as possible. Convenient, right?

While the storyline lacks a certain level of… finesse, the game play is a great time. The soon to be zombie soccer player stands stationary in the center-left of the screen, or is running while staying in the center of the road. From this location, soccer balls are aimed and shot at the oncoming hoards of zombies using a touch a flick movement. Pushing the soccer ball for a few seconds powers it up for extra damage, and there are three separate super powers that can be used once a power meter is filled up.

The game play is a rather simple design, and sometimes gets a bit repetitive. The challenge and unique approach that certain levels require help to tone down the repetition though. Overall I found myself enjoying the unique fun that this game provides, regardless of the far fetched storyline and re-use of the app store cliché, Zombies. I guess that’s a bit hypocritical, seeing as Zombies in general are far fetched. Pro Zombie Soccer is a good time and you can check it out on the app store today for $0.99.

Review: Pro Zombie Soccer

Review: Pro Zombie Soccer is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

It’s hard to blame George Romero for the current glut of zombie games, even if they’ve all been influenced by him. Computers were steel hulks that resembled washing machines when he shot the first modern zombie movie. It’s likely he had never even heard of video games back then.

How could he have known his apocalyptic vision aligned so perfectly with video game conventions-to-be that his zombies would eventually become the poster children for legions of uninspired gamers?

Then again, that’s always been the in-joke with zombie flicks, hasn’t it? Pop culture would eat itself, and this act of cannibalism would give rise to an epidemic. It was only a matter of time before the infection spread into video games.

Pro Zombie Soccer is among the latest of the Zombie-come-latelys, joining the ever-growing horde of the zombie apocalypse. The thing is, Pro Zombie Soccer didn’t have to be about zombies. It didn’t have to be about soccer, either. It could be about throwing hypercubes at American folk artists and no one would be the wiser.

It’s obvious why they went with zombies and soccer though.

Further broadening its popular appeal, a vaguely emo art style envelops the game. There’s even touches of juvenile humor such as getting credit for nailing zombies in the crotch with your soccer ball. It’s not just the zombies who groaned.

Fortunately, angsty teens in big-zippered jackets are merely cardboard cut-outs atop a fairly unique set of pulleys and levers. The off-putting demographic-targeting is offset by the game’s interesting departures from other Defend Your (insert your word of choice here) style games.

Zombie Pro Soccer is a peculiar mash-up of Missile Command, Arkanoid, and billiards games. At its core, it’s a battle reenactment  in which you defend a castle under siege.

It’s a game where you line up shots to ricochet bullets into the enemy’s soft spot. It’s a game about using an underpowered soccer ball to trigger overpowering power-ups, letting you mow through the throngs like wind cutting through your stylish yet not-so-well insulated hoodie.

The game does a good job of keeping things fresh all the while. Stage-specific set pieces constantly surprise and, together with the power-ups, add a great deal of variety to the drone of a zombie work week. These wrinkles range from slightly annoying to simply awesome — and some are so unexpected that I’d feel bad for spoiling them here.

It’s the occasional touch of absurdity that, in the end, swings my opinion of Pro Zombie Soccer from meh to Yeah. It evokes just enough curiosity in the workmanlike mechanics to keep them from becoming day-by-day. Likewise, it adds a splash of strangeness to the otherwise trite tropes of the game world.

As for zombie games, I doubt they’ll be going away any time soon. But hey, look on the bright side. It’s better than seeing Planet of the Apes games everywhere you look.

Part of what makes this appPushMyFoot 4 200x300 PushMyFoot iPhone App Review work is the simple interface. The list of teams can be sorted alphabetically or by the previously mentioned “Groups.” this is toggled by touching the buttons at the top of the screen.

The final menu option is the “Venues” button. This simply brings up a list of all the stadiums that are being used for the 2010 World Cup.
