Gamevil’s Soccer Superstars Coming Soon

Gamevil’s Soccer Superstars Coming Soon is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Zenonia and Baseball Superstars developer Gamevil revealed its next title for the iPhone and iPod Touch — the soccer-RPG hybrid Soccer Superstars.

While titles like 2010 FIFA World Cup and the upcoming X2 Soccer 2010 aim for realism, Soccer Superstars is a more cartoonish take on the sport. Throughout the game’s season mode, players will be able to boost their team’s stats by purchasing items and completing RPG-like quests.

Gamevil will submit Soccer Superstars to Apple later this month, and the title will likely see an early June release. Gamevil is currently hosting a contest encouraging fans to submit drawings or videos of their player concepts, with commemorative Adidas soccer balls awarded for top “creative, outrageous, wicked, ridiculous” and “hideous” entries.

Skate It Rolls Into the App Store

Skate It Rolls Into the App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

In preparation for the imminent launch of Skate 3 on consoles, EA has released Skate It ($6.99), a scaled-down iPhone version of its skateboarding franchise.

Skate It uses accelerometer and flick controls to trigger a variety of grabs, flips, and grinds. As with many skateboarding titles, players earn points for stringing together combinations of air and land stunts.

The iPhone version of Skate It also features a character creation mode, along with a replay recording feature that allows players to capture their best tricks and most painful failures.

(Related note: this incredible compilation video of bizarre Skate moments is pretty much guaranteed to instantly make you a fan of the series. My favorite starts at around 23 seconds in. Physics!)

Konami Brings International Track & Field to the App Store

Konami Brings International Track & Field to the App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Along with titles like Frogger, Konami’s button-mashing olympic sports sim Track & Field is one of the company’s best-remembered ’80s-era arcade titles. Today, Konami adapts the Track & Field franchise to the iPhone and iPod Touch with International Track & Field ($1.99).

International Track & Field is an all-new entry in the series, and features gameplay specifically designed with the iPhone’s touch screen in mind.

The button-mashing gameplay of the original arcade release has been replaced with a more touch screen-friendly “scratching” mechanic, in which players must slide a finger back and forth as fast as possible. Timing-based events have been similarly altered with new touch and flick control schemes.

International Track & Field includes five minigames — 100 Meter Dash, 110 Meter Hurdles, Long Jump, Hammer Throw, and Pole Vault.

Following up on last year’s successful FIFA 10, Electronic Arts has released 2010 FIFA World Cup, a 3D soccer sim featuring 105 official league teams.

2010 FIFA World Cup boasts an overhauled control scheme, simplifying input to three clearly labeled buttons and a virtual control stick. The game includes four single-player modes, along with training and multiplayer options.

The new World Cup tournament mode lets players take their favorite team through a series of qualifying matches, or skip straight to the finals leading up to the World Cup championship game.

X2_Football_2010_001

X2 Snowboarding developer X2 Games has announced an upcoming sequel in its iPhone soccer franchise.

X2 Football 2010 — likely to be renamed X2 Soccer 2010 upon its U.S. release — follows up on last year’s X2 Soccer 2009 with an overhauled graphics engine and all-new gameplay features.

X2 Soccer 2010 features 150 playable teams and 10 national leagues. Players can construct their own team lineup in the all-new “Dream Team” mode, which rewards performance in all game modes with tokens that can be used to scout for new players.

This year’s edition also features new AI in the single-player modes, enhanced graphics for 3GS devices, and multiplayer modes playable over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and online.

The detailed graphics seen in the screenshots released thus far puts X2 Soccer 2010 in the same league as reigning App Store soccer sim champs FIFA 10 and Real Soccer 2010. Hopefully, the gameplay will match the quality seen in the graphics department when X2 Soccer 2010 launches later this quarter. A teaser trailer is below.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 Now Available in App Store

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 Now Available in App Store is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

After finishing up high school, I basically spent the next year or so of my life playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 on the original PlayStation. I maxed out the stats of most of the game’s skaters — including the unlockable Spider-Man — found all of the hidden transfers, and earned 100% completion multiple times before moving on. Those were good times.

Today, you can download Activision’s new iPhone and iPod Touch version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 ($9.99) and bring back fond memories of wasting months of your life on extreme sports games.

The App Store edition of THPS2 includes 13 levels from the original game and 13 playable skaters. Presumably, Spider-Man didn’t make the cut. I hear that the original soundtrack is missing, too. Big-time boo on that!

Activision claims that the iPhone version of THPS2 is an otherwise faithful port, however, right down to the controls. A pad-and-buttons setup mimics the game’s original control layout, though players also have the option of enabling accelerometer-based controls for turning, spinning, and manualing.

Freeverse Launches Free, Ad-Supported Version of Flick Bowling 2

Freeverse Launches Free, Ad-Supported Version of Flick Bowling 2 is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

flickbowling2

After releasing Flick Bowling 2 ($2.99) earlier this week, Freeverse has launched Flick Bowling 2 Free, an ad-supported but otherwise fully functional free version of its sports sim sequel.

Freeverse takes an unusual approach with its Flick Bowling follow-up, adding a new story mode that “takes you on a journey through time and space to defeat the insidious Baron Von Schtopwatch.”

With bowling.

Playable characters include a number of famous historical figures, all of whom were apparently secret bowlers. Cleopatra? Totally a bowler. So was Napoleon. And Genghis Khan’s first order of business after forming the Mongol Empire was to build the world’s first bowling alley. True story!

Both the free and paid versions of Flick Bowling 2 include Plus+ network leaderboards and unlockable awards.
