Group Text!

Group Text! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

With Group Text! you can easily send SMS to groups, to handpicked set of contacts or to custom distribution lists.
You can also optionally create some templates to save time if you send the same text frequently.

Once you create a list, you no longer have to select contacts one-by-one for a group message. Simply tap on the list name and you are ready to send! And if you need to send the same message many times, just save it as a template and pick it later to auto populate the text of your message.

Group Text! uses your text plan to send messages and replies are received on the iPhone Messages application as usual.

Features:
send mass text messages
easy and quick interface
use address book groups
handpick set of contacts from address book
create distribution lists from address book or manually entering recipients information
distribution lists are very useful if you have contacts with more than one phone number or if you don’t want to create groups only to group text them
optionally create and use message templates
setting to show all or only mobile numbers
iPhone 4 retina display ready

IMPORTANT NOTE : If you’re experiencing issues sending to large groups and you’re on AT&T, check the setting of “Group Messaging” on the iPhone settings. It has to be off to be able to send to large groups. That setting regards how the message app groups replies and if replies to your texts will be sent to all recipients. This iPhone setting also configure if your texts are sent as MMS or SMS. You have to set it to OFF to send regular group SMS.

Choice of the Dragon Review

Graphics / Sound Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.88 out of 5 stars

Even on the iPhone, we expect certain things from our games. Shiny graphics. Neat level designs. Complexity. Choice of the Dragon, however, takes things in a different direction entirely. The game is an old-fashioned, text-based RPG in which you pick from multiple-choice answers and follow branching paths through Choice of the Dragon’s loose plot. Simple? Yes. Boring? Never.

Each screen features a plain, white background; some plain, black narrative text; and sometimes, a multiple-choice question. All questions are addressed to the dragon you’re playing. They can be anything from a simple “What color is your hide?” in the beginning, to a decision that has a significant impact upon your dragon. The choices you make vary: what will I do with these goblins? Should I attack the dragon raiding my borders? Should I allow my puny human serfs to worship me? The narrative text is great; there’s a lot of humor infused in the script.

Your dragon has three character traits: Brutality/Finesse, Cunning/Honor, and Disdain/Vigilance. (High Brutality = low Finesse; high Honor = low Cunning, etc.) In addition, your dragon has an Infamy rating; the game also tracks your wealth, how many wounds you attain, and how blasphemous you are. All of these stats are affected by your choices in the game. A sneak attack at night but raise Finesse but lower Honor, for example.

Once you exhaust the game’s story, Choice of the Dragon presents you with your final stats, and that’s it: you’re done! You can replay the game to toy with the different plot branches, though.

All in all, Choice of the Dragon is a simple RPG in the truest sense—but it’s still a lot of fun, largely thanks to the writing. Terrorizing kingdoms, conquering territory, collecting loot, vanquishing a powerful witch…sure, it’s all in the text, but fantasy fans should definitely download this free-to-play game.

Mobile Photo Mar 16, 2010 9 26 33 PMInstapaper has been around for a while, but it doesn’t show a speck of age. This sleek app allows you to download text from websites for on-the-go reading. Sound simple? Sure, but Instapaper reigns supreme when it comes to finesse, functionality, and elegance. Think of it like an RSS reader or document storage…but simpler, less rigid, and better suited to the iPhone.

The concept is a simple one. Bookmark a website from your computer or the iPhone’s browser using a special bookmark, and it’ll be added to your Instapaper account. From there, you can read it in the app. Instapaper removes superfluous ads and other assorted clutter, and displays it in a clean, easily readable interface. Once it’s downloaded to Instapaper, you can read your articles offline, anywhere you can take your iPhone. It’s extremely convenient, especially for longer articles and blog posts that might take a solid chunk of time to read.

The cornerstone of Instapaper is simplicity, but the app provides plenty of features and options. First, when it comes to reading articles, you can customize your display. Font choices include Helvetica, Georgia, and Verdana; you can shrink the font size; a night mode inverts the background (white-text-against-black-screen works better at night). To scroll through an article, you can flick the screen as you would normally in Safari, or use the other two options: tilt scrolling and pagination. Tilt scrolling works fluidly and simply: tap a button to enable the mode, and the text scrolls based on angle of your device. Pagination requires a single tap to advance a page, much as you’d expect from an eBook reader. I don’t really like pagination—you have to tap the bottom of the page, not the right, and there’s no real animation to show the transition—but all three options work just fine.

Mobile Photo Mar 16, 2010 9 26 39 PMThis version of Instapaper also includes a bevy of other features. You can organize your articles in folders, and even set up folders that automatically import articles from RSS feeds. For example, right now I have a 148apps.com folder that automatically downloads all new posts, as well as a few others like ArsTechnica and PoliticsDaily. You can share articles via Tumblr and Twitter, and look up word definitions without leaving the app. You can lock rotation in the settings menu. Instapaper even remembers where in an article you stopped reading…perfect for if you get interrupted during a super-long article!

What Instapaper does is simple on the surface, but doing it well is another thing entirely. Instapaper looks, feels, and acts like a native Apple app: it has the same level of polish and a well-designed user interface. And, more importantly, it’s incredibly useful…especially if you’re a WiFi-bound iPod Touch user or don’t have a data plan. Last year, I used the free version extensively for storing AP US History notes for quick studying between classes and on the bus; having the full version’s features makes it even better. For long blog posts and articles, it’s also a very nice touch; sitting down to read an enormous post might not fit with your browsing habits, but it’s easy to set it aside for later.

I really don’t have any complaints about Instapaper Pro. Well…I wish I could download images along with the text, but with the option to view the original file in Mobile Safari, it’s not as necessary as it might have been. Other than that small caveat? This is perfect. If you’re a literate internet user, you owe it to yourself to get this app. At the very least, give its free version a spin!

Craft Custom Text Images with PMS It

Craft Custom Text Images with PMS It is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price:  $0.99    Rating:  7/10    Author: Sarah Parker

PMS It, despite its name, is not a app for a woman’s cranky days. PMS (in this case) stands for Picture Message Services. PMS It was created by Michael Husemann as a picture messaging app which allows users to send customized picture messages through either e-mail or text.

PMS It consists of a basic vector editing program which uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to create your own pictures and objects (similar to Adobe Illustrator). PMS It is not a paint application; rather, it is an SVG program that allows users to create or alter simple images that they can personalize with text and color. To start, the user either begins to create a new image on the editing board, or they can select pre-made images from the saved files or the Categories folder. It takes a little time to pre-load the image categories, where you can choose simple shapes that you can change to suite your tastes. Once you have chosen your shape or object, add it to the editing board and you can start making changes by adding colors and text. Text can be entered in 24 different fonts, with adjustable font sizes text placement. You can also edit your image by layering several images, and by using the copy/paste, zoom, undo, erase, and edit features.

Once you have customized your image in PMS It, you can save it to the program, or you can share as an e-mail or as a multimedia text message. When you wish to text the image, you need to save the file to your Photos and then access the picture from there to text it. PMS It users can transfer files from your Mac or PC to the app, but the imported images must be saved in .svg format (although not all .svg files are supported with this app). Unfortunately, I was unable to transfer image files from my PC to the app to test this feature.

While the concept of PMS It is truly unique, the app is a little too complicated for casual users. It takes some time to create good images from scratch with the vector program. The instructions are very thorough, but lengthy. Perhaps PMS It could be divided into two separate apps: a PMS Basic app that gives people the ability to use only preloaded images, and a PMS It Pro which adds the ability to create images. Doing this would give casual users an easy to use format with the Basic edition, while giving others the option to upgrade to an in-depth Pro version where they can create their own images. I enjoyed being able to use the pre-made shapes to create custom image messages, but the app can be rather intricate and it takes time to become familiar with it.

PMS It is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch; requires OS 2.0 or later
