Lilt Line Developer Reveals Upcoming Helicoid for iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Different Cloth, creator of the IGF Mobile Audio Achievement award-winning rhythm game Lilt Line, announced the upcoming release of Helicoid, a reflex-testing dexterity game for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

In Helicoid, players must quickly rotate and shake their iOS device to travel around a winding, coiled line. The game features multiple levels of increasing difficulty and a minimalist aesthetic similar to Lilt Line’s.

Different Cloth’s Gordon Midwood notes that the game has been submitted to Apple, and should appear in the App Store “very soon.”

Fans of Lilt Line should also note that the game is currently in development for Nintendo’s WiiWare platform, in cooperation with Bit.Trip series developer Gaijin Games.

Verizon Will Let You Watch Live TV On Your iPad

Verizon Will Let You Watch Live TV On Your iPad is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Verizon, the company that is rumored to get the iPhone onto their network in the not so distant future, has an app planned that will bring live TV to FiOS subscribing iPad users (FiOS, for those who don’t know (which included me until about an hour ago), is Verizon’s bundled home communications service which includes internet, TV, and phone). The live TV in the app will be a completely separate experience, letting the iPad work as an independent TV rather than an extension of another, a la Slingbox.

While the news is not quite as epic as a confirmed by Apple Verizon phone, the ability to stream live TV is something that iPad owners have been yearning for.

There is a major limitation though, as the service can only be used in your home due to Verizon’s need to authenticate users to send them the correct content. While it is unfortunate for the end user, it wouldn’t make sense for every user of the app to get every premium channel just for having it. The eventual goal is to provide a TV anywhere model, but there are apparently some kinks that need to be worked out.

Verizon is also planning a video on-demand store to be ready in Q4 2010 (which may or may not be before the release of the iPad app) that will let you stream rented and or paid for movies on the fly. Instead of making you store the content on-device though, the service saves the media onto a 70 GB HD in the clouds that is specifically dedicated to you. This capability allows users to watch the videos on whatever device they choose, from one of the TV’s connected to FiOS to a supported mobile device.

Verizon doesn’t have a set date for the apps arrival as they are waiting for all of the content partners to get on board, something that could be very difficult in today’s world where everyone is trying to make money in the App Store, but the “cloud TV” experience could be right around the corner. If you are one of the lucky 2.5 million FiOS TV customers, your TV on the iPad dreams could soon come true.

QuakeCon Shows Off Rage, id Tech 5 For iPhone

QuakeCon Shows Off Rage, id Tech 5 For iPhone is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

To most people, QuakeCon is an event that is custom built for showing off the latest and greatest in big gaming software. John Carmack, the genius behind id Software, usually gets up on stage and wows the crowd with his new FPS, but this year, it was a bit different.

In his keynote he whiped out his iPhone 4 and said, “iPhone. Rage. 60 frames per second”. Rage, his newest FPS, was only expected to be released on the current generation mega machines, so when his iPhone came out, the crowd let out a pretty hearty cheer. What Carmack showed was only a tech demo, but it had all of the textures, lighting effects, and speed that you would expect a solid FPS to have.

The demonstration was built on the id Tech 5 engine, the same engine used for the XBox 360, the PS3, and the PC, which is so advanced that it can run the game at an acceptable speed on a first gen iPhone.

Carmack says in the speech, after explaining how cool the app looks on the iPad, says that the Tech 5 engine could “kill anything done on a previous generation console, like the Xbox or PlayStation 2.”.

He does mention the lack of tactile feedback, but I fully expect John Carmack to fix that too. I’ll be waiting, Carmack.

Unfortunately for us, id will not be licensing Tech 5 like they do with the majority of their other tech. In an interview with Eurogamer, id’s Software boss Todd Hollenshead said that “It’s going to be used within ZeniMax, so we’re not going to license it to external parties. It’s like, look, this is a competitive advantage and we want to keep it within games we publish – not necessarily exclusively to id or id titles, but if you’re going to make a game with id Tech 5 then it needs to be published by Bethesda, which I think is a fair thing.”

Here’s hoping that there will be a slew of great Bethesda titles for the iPhone in 2011.

Chillingo’s Big Summer Lineup

Chillingo’s Big Summer Lineup is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Chillingo, the massive game publisher responsible (but not in a negative way) for iDracula, MiniGore, TouchKO, and countless others, has seven new apps that will be published in the remaining “dog days of summer.”

Although the season may almost be over, the summer sun hasn’t set on our top-quality lineup of releases in every genre,” said Johnny Coghlan, Chillingo’s Head of Publishing. “Our groundbreaking new titles are sure to entertain folks seeking a unique gaming experience, whatever their favorite genre.

There aren’t any specific release dates on the games, but here they are, in no particular order.

Lamp of Aladdin – iPad – Lamp of Aladdin, based on the video, looks like a typical Match 3 game with a twist. Instead of just providing a board and a bunch of crystals, there seems to be some kind of character involvement within the game itself. The game is said to be very story driven, so look for a blend of character interaction with your puzzles.

Pipe Rush – iPhone, iPod Touch – There aren’t many details, but it sounds like pipe rush will be a typical puzzle game where you have to connect certain shaped pipes to get the water to safely run through.

Great Adventures: Lost in the Mountains – iPad – Never in my life have I see a promo video with such an identity crisis. Chillingo’s description of the game is as follows, “Trapped by a snowstorm in a mountain-top hotel, two friends must solve the mysterious murder of a great scientist and return a stolen invention designed to change the future of humanity.”

From the video, I’d say that Great Adventures is a mystery game meets Diner Dash meets the Sims. Watch the video for yourself and let me know what you think.

Robin Hood: Archer of the Woods – iPhone, iPod Touch – Robin Hood: AoW looks like a archery aiming game where you have to pick off waves of incoming soldiers instead of firing at a single object. To spice things up, there are bonuses for headshots, powerup weapons that give you exploding arrows, and even enemies on wooden Segways (what???). The game obviously has a sense of humor, because the bosses that you fight include, “costumed trolls, dragon cows and Trojan pigs”. I’m sure that we’ll be reviewing this one in the upcoming weeks/months.

Fiona’s Flowers – iPad – Fiona’s flowers is a cross between Diner Dash and Farmville, done in a style that could only be appreciated by a little girl. Given the style, it is definitely an attempt to reign in the female crowd, but the iPad exclusivity is puzzling. I don’t want to say that the iPad is a male (or adult, for that matter) dominated device, but I don’t really see little girls flocking to pick this one up. If I were Chillingo, I would’ve gone with something a bit less shiny and a bit more gender neutral. Who knows though, maybe I’m wrong.

Alien Cab – iPhone, iPod Touch – Alien Cab, to be released from Chillingo’s other title, Clickgamer, is a basic line drawing game based on cabs in space. Like all good line drawing games, you must get “Object A” to “Location A” without having it hit “Object B” while it tries to get to “Location B”. It doesn’t seem to offer anything new to the crowded genre, but if it plays well, it’ll probably be fun

Floe – Universal – Also from Clickgamer, Floe is a puzzle game controlled solely by the accelerometer. By titling your iDevice, you must move objects out of “Floe”s way as he tries to navigate the big block of ice that he’s seemingly stuck on. The success of Floe will entirely depend on how many levels there will be and how challenging the levels are. We’ll see when the app is released.

Again, there’s no word yet on any of the release dates, but they will all be released before the end of summer. Also, be sure to check after the break for screen shots of all the games above. Enjoy!

New Trailer Released for Upcoming Cave Shooter DoDonPachi Resurrection

New Trailer Released for Upcoming Cave Shooter DoDonPachi Resurrection is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Espgaluda II developer Cave has released new details and a gameplay trailer for its upcoming App Store adaptation of the bullet-hell shooter DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu.

To be titled DoDonPachi Resurrection upon its release in North America, the app will include all content from the original arcade release, along with a new iPhone-exclusive “SM Mode,” which introduces new weapons and gameplay mechanics.

As seen in the trailer above, players can engage a multi-directional laser attack in SM Mode. Using the iPhone’s touch screen, players can aim the ship’s lasers in any direction while protected by a bullet-canceling shield. Also exclusive to this mode is the “Hyper Cannon,” a screen-filling attack that annihilates incoming enemies and does major damage to bosses.

Cave’s Masa KING notes that the iPhone version of DoDonPachi Resurrection will additionally feature remixed music from Kenichi Maeyamada and longtime Beatmania composer Shoichiro Hirata when it launches in the App Store in “the middle of this summer.”

Netflix and Hulu on the iPhone? PlayOn!

Netflix and Hulu on the iPhone? PlayOn! is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

As of now, there isn’t an app that lets you stream Hulu or Netflix directly. There is a Netflix app available, but it’s only for the iPad, leaving iPhone owners movie-less for the time being. There’s a Hulu Plus app but that requires a $10/month fee.

To remedy this, PlayOn is releasing a web app that lets people use its popular streaming service on the iPhone. “Users simply need to install the latest version of the PlayOn client on their Windows PC, then log into http://m.playon.tv on their iPhone while connected to their home network. The mobile app then searches the user’s local network for PlayOn servers, and upon discovery, it grants full access to Hulu, Netflix, Comedy Central, Revision3, and other PlayOn content channels. Eventually, users will be able to log onto their PlayOn servers from anywhere by using their WAN (wide area network) IP address.”

There is a cost involved ($39.99 for the first year, $19.99 each year after, or a lump $79.99 for lifetime use), but if you are itching for mobile movies, PlayOn may be your best bet.

Upcoming App Chop Chop Soccer Looks Like Mobile Mario Strikers (And That’s A Good Thing)

Upcoming App Chop Chop Soccer Looks Like Mobile Mario Strikers (And That’s A Good Thing) is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Ever since the start of the World Cup, we have seen a slew of soccer apps come out. Unfortunately, the majority of the apps are soccer simulations, leading to obvious limitations on the small iPhone screen. There’s just no good way to pack all of the complexities that soccer offers, from the moves to the different types of passes to the great shots… there just isn’t enough screen real estate for the needed buttons.

Instead of a traditional soccer game, Gamerizon has made a soccer game that looks like the iPhone version of Mario Strikers, just with simpler controls.

“There are no virtual pads or buttons. All that’s needed is one finger to control all offensive and defensive actions. To move, you just slide your finger on the screen. To pass, shoot or tackle, you just flick your finger in the direction you want your player or ball to go. That’s it! Those commands make Chop Chop Soccer™ the most intuitive soccer game ever created.”

Be sure to check out the video below, the game looks like a ton of fun.
