Vonage Mobile Trolls Facebook For Contacts and Free Phone Calls

Vonage Mobile Trolls Facebook For Contacts and Free Phone Calls is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

If you’ve ever needed to call someone, yet have no idea how to get a hold of them, you’ll understand the greatness of Vonage Mobile. In this modern day and age, the only way to get in touch with someone that isn’t connected is by sending a Facebook message (because everyone has Facebook) and then praying that they check it, but often they don’t.

Instead of this waiting game, the new Vonage Mobile app searches through your Facebook friends list and seeks out those who also have Vonage Mobile. There is no need to know any numbers, you just tap on the “Call Free” button and away you go! It would be kind of creepy if you were using the app to stalk ex-girlfriends and such, but the way you use the app is none of Vonage’s, nor my, concern.

Vonage Mobile works over 3G and WiFi and supports phone calls and chat. It’s also totally free… how nice.

Use Wifi/3G to Make International Calls With Vopium

Use Wifi/3G to Make International Calls With Vopium is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Price: FREE   Score: 8/10   By M. SchustermanVopium

Ever since downloading Skype years ago and using it almost daily to talk to my family free when I lived overseas, I’ve suspected a change was coming in the way phone companies offer and price services. AT&T changing their policy on allowing VoIP calls to be made over their 3G network was one of those changes.

Vopium is one of a few apps that allow you to use 3G and Wi-Fi networks to your financial benefit when it comes to making international calls. The app itself is a free download, and you can give it a shot before committing to the subscription cost with 15 free minutes and 15 free SMS anywhere.

I know Vopium has had quite a few updates since launching this app. For my part, it actually worked really well. I sent my mom a text, then had a nice chat with my husband, who is currently in Mexico. The call dropped once, although to be fair, that happens to us quite a lot no matter what phone service we’re using. Quality was fine – I had no problems hearing him, and vice versa.

When you open Vopium, you have access to your list of contacts from your phone book, a history section of who you’ve called through the app, an option to login to IM, and the keypad. The keypad looks exactly like the regular iPhone keypad, but with your current balance showing, and an SMS option. Under “More,” you can add friends and groups to organize your contacts, adjust your settings to what type of mobile network you prefer Vopium use, and add or transfer money in your account.

The app is easy to navigate, and like I said – it worked great for me. However, like calls made over any type of network, experiences may vary. Because both the app and trial period are free, I highly recommend frequent international callers give Vopium a shot and potentially save a good deal of money on calls.

Vopium

Vopium requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.

REVIEW – “Save minutes on your phone plan with SIP!”

If you are a fan of Voice over IP technology and have not tried itSessionTalk SIP Client 1 208x300 SessionTalk SIP Client iPhone App Review on your mobile device yet this could be the next must-have app you’ve been looking for!  SessionTalk SIP Client will allow you to connect your iPhone to your favorite VOIP service and use an interface that works and feels extremely similar to the iPhone’s built in phone functions.

When you open this app up the first thing you’ll need to do is set up your VOIP service.  If you don’t already have a service set up you’ll need to go and sign up for an account.  You’ll see a list of VOIP services that have pre-configured settings if you choose to use those.  I was able to easily find each of them using Google and choose one.  With that said there is also a “Generic SIP” button that will leave all the settings pretty much untouched and ready for you to customize with any other VOIP serves that supports SIP phones.

SessionTalk SIP Client 2 208x300 SessionTalk SIP Client iPhone App Review
Once you get everything setup you’re ready to start using the app.  At the bottom of the screen you’ll find a menu bar where you can pull up a keypad to make a quick call, browse through your phone’s contact list or view recent calls that you’ve made/received.  You can also keep a “Favorites” list of numbers that you call regularly if you like.

The big difference between this app and a lot of apps that have been released like this is that it will actually allow you to make VOIP calls over your phone’s 3G connection!  The call quality was descent with the services that I tested.  Obviously not quite as good as a solid WiFi connection, but the app can easily switch between 3G and WiFi connections and stay connected to your call!SessionTalk SIP Client 3 208x300 SessionTalk SIP Client iPhone App Review

This app does a great job of including features where other clients similar to it sometimes drop the ball.  For example, I have tested several VOIP clients that have a different phone interface that does not include the ability to put a call on speakerphone.  This app not only includes that but also has the ability to use a Bluetooth headset built into it as well!

The one thing that I would criticize is that while there are some VOIP services that have their settings already built into this app, if your service is not one of those it can be a little confusing to get it set up.  Another downer is that you’ll find that some VOIP services will support SIP devices will not, so shop carefully!  Besides these small things that are really out of the control of the developers this app does what it says and does it well.  Whether you have already been using VOIP as a part of your home communications or you are looking to save money by harnessing this technology, this app is a great cheap way to access it from your mobile device.  So what are you waiting for?  Check it out in the App Store today!

iCall Free VoIP (Free)

Version – 1.2.5

REVIEW – “Bad reception at home?  iCall to the rescue!”

iCall Free VoIP 1 - iPhone App ReviewOne of the things that I had to compromise a while back when I got my first iPhone was my cell phone service.  Now don’t get me wrong, AT&T has very fast 3G service, and I don’t have any more problems in most areas with reception than I did with my previous carrier.  The problem is that my house seems to be a dead zone!  Since I don’t have a home phone this made it difficult for people to get ahold of sometimes.  That is until I started using iCall Free VoIP!

I’ve tried a variety of different VoIP calling services in the past, but most of them are either difficult to set up or didn’t offer some of the features that I wanted to have like an incoming call iCall Free VoIP 2 - iPhone App Reviewnumber.  The greatest feature of this app in my opinion is in the ease of use factor which was definitely refreshing!

When you open iCall for the first time you will need to set up what kind of plan you’ll be using.  If all you want to do is be able to make phone calls one of the options is completely free!  The setup for this kind of account consists of making a phone call to a number to confirm what your cell phone number is.  Once you’ve done that all you have to do is dial any number to call out over WiFi or the cell network.  The great thing is that you can start a call at home on WiFi and then continue it when you leave the house on 3G or EDGE!

But what if you’re like me and you need people to be able to get ahold of you iCall Free VoIP 3 - iPhone App Reviewat home as well as be able to call out over WiFi?  Well for just $10 a month you can get unlimited outgoing and incoming calls to your own private number!  There are a variety of area codes to select numbers from, although I was disappointed to see that there were not any local numbers to my area.  With that said, there are a variety of area codes available and they are constantly adding more!

Now I’m sure you’re probably wondering how you can receive calls with no cell connection.  Well as long as your home WiFi is set up properly you will receive a push notification over WiFi that will let you know when you have an incoming call!  When you receive the message all you have to do is touch answer to open up iCall and answer the call immediately!

One of the most important things with a service like this is always going to be call quality.  I was very pleased with the quality of calls using my 3GS phone.  I made and received several calls to both local and long-distance numbers and didn’t seem to have any problems.  With that said, my wife seemed to have problems with choppy audio on her iPhone 3G.  It didn’t happen all the time though so it’s possible that it had more to due to some of the memory problems that the 3G has.

This app also offers a decent array of features that you would expect.  It allows you to use your iPhone iCall Free VoIP 4 - iPhone App Reviewcontacts list from directly within the app, it shows you a list of calls that you’ve made recently and it also offers a voice mail box that is particularly useful if you decide to pay for a personal incoming number.

While this app is really great I did have a few things that I would really like to see added in the future.  The first is that it could use a “speakerphone” feature.  As of now there is no way to put a call on speakerphone which is particularly annoying if you are trying to use a touchtone menu on a company’s answering machine.  TheiCall Free VoIP 5 - iPhone App Review second thing that would be really nice is if there was an incoming call list.  It’s great that you can see what phone calls you’ve made in the past, but more often what I want to check is who I’ve received calls from.

Overall, this app is definitely a winner in my book.  The best part is there is that the basic service works well and its cheap.  Some of the little things within the app should be easy to add/fix and make this app even more amazing.  If you’ve been debating on getting a home phone number because of reception problems, I simply cannot recommend this app enough.  The ability to make sure your phone calls have a strong signal and don’t get dropped while at home is worth a lot more than the cheap $10 a month that they are charging people!  So what are you waiting for?  See what all the fuss is about and try out the outgoing call feature of iCall today!

Headset – iPhone App Review

Headset – iPhone App Review is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

Post image for Headset – iPhone App Review

Headset ($0.99)

Version – 1.0

REVIEW – “Turn your iPhone into a wireless headset!”

Headset 1 - iPhone App ReviewOf all the apps I’ve reviewed recently, this one has to be one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen!  Headset, by SHAPE Services, is an app that will allow you to use your iPhone as a wireless headset or headphones.  All you need for it to work is a simple free desktop client and this app!  This is particularly useful for things like VOIP calling, but it has a lot of other uses as well.

When you open up Headset the first thing you see is the main menu.  The center of the screen is an image of headphones with a meter on each side of it to show how much signal the app is receiving from your computer.  Setting up a new computer is very easy.  All you have to do is touch the settings button on the right side above the headset and you’ll see a list all of the computers that are running the free server software and are on the same WiFi network.  All you have to do to connect to one of them is just touch it.

One thing to note is that the way this app works is by installing another audio driver onto your computer.  What this means is that you will need to set theHeadset 2 - iPhone App Reviewnew driver as the default device, either for the program you are using, or just for your computer.  The easiest way to do this is to use the “Sound” program in the control panel, but it can also be done by opening the “audio mixer” and setting it there, or by setting it from within the individual applications that you want to use it with.

Once I got everything set up the first thing I was anxious to test is how it worked for listening to audio from my computer.  Something I do quite a lot of is listen to political commentary and/or watch television shows on the internet.  Being able to listen wirelessly allows me to move around and get other things done while not missing a thing!

So I’m sure you’re anxious to hear about my experiences with this app.  What I found is that this app does an excellent job of listening to music and also making phone calls.  For watching video; however, the lag that this app adds to the audio is enough to make videos seem out of sync and/or choppy.  Overall I Headset 3 - iPhone App Reviewwas very impressed with the performance of this app though.  If your videos get too far out of sync the quickest fix is to just pause the video and then start it up again.

Another thing that could make this app extremely useful for business people is that it has the ability to record audio.  This potentially means that if you use this app to make VOIP calls you could record them with this app.  Recording is extremely simple, all you have to do is touch the red record button in the bottom left of the screen.  If you want to record just the audio coming in and not the microphone you can touch the mic mute button on the right side as well.  All recordings are saved directly to your computer making it simple to archive/access them quickly.

To sum all this up, whether you are just looking for a cheap wireless headset or a powerful business tool for making calls from your computer Headset by SHAPE Services is a good place to start!  And the best part is that all of these great features are available for just $0.99  in the App Store.  So what are you waiting for?  Check it out today!

iPhone OS SDK 3.2 Beta Lifts VoIP Over 3G Restriction. AT&T and O2 Say “Wahh?!”

iPhone OS SDK 3.2 Beta Lifts VoIP Over 3G Restriction. AT&T and O2 Say “Wahh?!” is a post from: Best Iphone Apps Review Website

As you probably already know by now, last Wednesday Apple unveiled to the world its new “tablet computer” – the Apple iPad. Shortly after the event came to a close, like always, Apple issued registered developers of it’s ADC network the next beta of the iPhone OS SDK. Version 3.2. Now among trivial changes, like this version of OS only being compatible with the iPad, one change has been uncovered which is slightly confusing.

If you’re not familiar with VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol, the technology allows for telecommunication using the internet. Take a service like Skype, for example. It uses VoIP to connect its millions of users to other users around the world at very little, or no cost at all. Ever since the introduction of the iPhone SDK, Apple has stood by the fact that its partnering mobile networks, AT&T in the US and O2 in the UK, weren’t so keen on the fact that developers could (if they wanted) use VoIP to circumvent monthly call plans. So, Apple being Apple and wanting to keep relations sweet put a restriction on the iPhone SDK stating that use of VoIP over a 3G data connection was prohibited.

Late Wednesday night though this all took a turn around – for the better, with the introduction of the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK Beta – as now, this SDK does support VoIP over the iPhone’s 3G network. In fact, a few applications, such as iCall and Fring, are already supporting this new rule, ultimately saving you money on phone calling through local and international ad-supported calling. This all leaves me to ask myself one question .. What must AT&T, O2 and the other mobile networks selling iPhone call plans around the world, think of this move? Did they sanction it? Maybe they believe they’re going to make so much of a killing off 3G pre-pay plans with the iPad this Spring, that they don’t care about loss of revenue in regards to call plans on the iPhone?

Anyway, It’s not exactly clear if the same SDK rule will make the jump over to the iPad, but to be honest, I can’t exactly see myself holding that 9 by 7 inch device to my ear without losing some serious street cred ..
