Overview:

Machines guns. Rocket launchers. Zombies. Tight pants. Developed by iPhoGame Dev, Inc.  This sentence fragment review is brought to you by a bored app reviewer.

Some good stuff:

Nice 3D visuals and rendering. 1st and 3rd person views. Collectable power ups. Money tracking, weapon upgrading, clothing purchasing. Variety of powerups to collect, save, and to lay waste the bosses with.

Recent update shortened my “Not so hot” list considerably.  Gameplay is satisfying. Boss fights are satisfying. Getting mobbed by zombies and dying is less satisfying.

Some not so hot stuff:

About 4 different items to collect. Which isn’t a lot. All zombies act the same. Not very many power ups. Linear levels (kill zombies, kill boss, enter swirly portal). Game gets repetitive quick. Controls are occasionally screwy. Very little rpg-likeness.

Things that would make this app better:

More items, more upgrades, more stuff to do. But I basically say that about every app.

Should I buy it?:

Right now, this app is bare bones and simple, but has a great concept and an extremely ambitious starting. A recent update improving movement and reloading shows the dev’s dedication, and possibly of things to come.

Everything you need for a succesful zombie thrashing.
This ominous purple portal. Sounds good.
Don't ask.

I liked it better when zombies would only moan and shamble toward you.

iPhone App Review – After the Siege #2

  After the Siege #2 (Free)

REVIEW—”The zombies just can’t seem to get enough”

After the Siege #2 is a good book for zombie lovers and continues the tumultuous and adventurous tale we witnessed in After the Siege #1. In the second part of this 2 part series, our main character, Vale, must deal with the effects of having been bitten by a zombie. In the hostile environment that she finds herself where zombies are the enemy and a cure has yet to be established. Vale must navigate her way through a war that has taken over her city while simultaneously combating the zombie-like nature that has begun to take over her being. Will Vale find her cure? Will the citizens prevail in the war against zombies?

If it’s anything like Will Smith in “I Am Legend” the answer is no, but I won’t ruin the story for you. However, I will say that this story certainly echoes the Richard Matheson novel and Will Smith blockbuster. While the first half of the war was focused more on the war and the city’s reaction, this second part is focused more on character development. Readers get to experience Vale’s transformation first hand, which is really nice.

Still, even as an adult, I find a lot of the material to be fairly provocative. There’s a lot of male dominance and vulgarity. Basically, this book was designed for a mature audience. I’m also not really sure what the harsh language is supposed to signify for most characters. It doesn’t really set a scene of Vale’s surroundings or anything. It’s all very sporadic thus lacking flow.

As I said in my review of After Siege #1, as an application I find the only qualm I have is that After the Siege isn’t as touch screen friendly as I would prefer it to be. It’s not as sensitive to touch as other books I’ve read. Aside from that, I think After the Siege was great and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in zombies, social critiques, politics, or warfare.
